When did you first read a full length novel?

How old were you?

What was it?

How did you pick it out?

Was it a gift, did someone suggest it to you, or did you find it in a library or bookstore?

Was it as good as you thought it would be?

Did you read anymore by the same author?

Update:

Children's & teens' chapter books are also just fine.

Update 2:

These are all such good answers that it would be possible to comments on each one. Thanks, everyone.

I suppose that sort of depends on what you consider a full length novel to be.

I read Charlotte's Web when I was six. As that is a chapter book, I think you could consider it a full length novel.

My mom recommended it to me figuring it was a well known and enjoyed children's classic.

I got it from my school library, which is where I got basically all books when I was in elementary school.

I didn't have any expectations about it really. I was six, so I was entertained by most things. But I did think it was amazing, and really loved it.

Yes I did, though I still enjoyed Charlotte's Web the most.

A translation of The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer

It was on the bookshelf in our classroom, and it was the only book that looked interesting.

I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed it

I read Huckleberry Finn later that year.

I was in the third grade. My teacher noticed my love of reading, and gave me books from her home to take and read. I read Robinson Crusoe, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. And there were 3 of Tarzan also.

It was all books a young boy enjoyed. And I remember her and her kindness to this very day.

Probably what ever grade I was in when we had to start giving book reports in school. I hated reading then and still don't do much of it. The other kids always found interesting books to read from the school library but I could never find any. I read a lot of comic books, some old lady cousins of my grandma were teachers and they bought them for their nephews so when they got done with them they gave them to us. I got hooked on them and bought my own when I had money, they were 12 cents back then.

I think it was Little House in the Big Woods. I remember it was a from my school library and was recommended to me. I was in 1st grade.

I went on to read the rest of the series eventually.
