Cat licking anal area but doesn't have worms?

Update:

I hit submit before giving details. He has been to the vet twice. Had urine and blood tests all seems normal, had his glands extracted although she didn't think they were impacted, no flees, but he keeps trying to lick his anal area, a lot of scooting, oh and he was treated for worms just incase as I could not get a sample. he is overweight and cant reach down there , he hardly eats anymore still gained a lb and has been dry heaving, had xrays all good, food allergies ?

It is all about the timing...is he constantly licking his butt, or just for a few minutes after the litter box ? Is he licking until the fur is starting to get thin or absent ? Then it may be an anal gland problem and a vet visit is needed. If he begins to scoot his butt along the floor......vet asap. Not an emergency, unless he is having problems pooping, but should not be neglected.

It might just be cleaning itself or trying to get an itch. Your cat may have flees. I don't think it's something to be concern about of it doesn't do it that often but if it dose trying looking it up on a website about cats.
