I have a question about weight lifting. How do I "curl"?

I just started working out last week, Monday-ish, and I've been wondering ever since, what the benefit(s) of curling is and how to properly do curling.

Hm, curling? There is a sport called curling. I have also heard of doing bicep curls, which is more to the point of your question I think. If so, the bicep curls serve to strengthen the biceps of your upper arms. How to properly do it? Use a bar or dumbbells, fully extend your arms to your sides, then arc the weight upward, bending only at the elbow, and not tightening your shoulders or using your back, until the weight is almost touching your shoulder. Then ease the weight back down. Keep the strain on during the descent as well as the ascent, that means you will double your effort. Don't go too heavy - if you can just barely do four groups of eight repetitions with no more than a minute of rest in between, that is the perfect amount.
