Hummus lovers! Please help me out?

What gives good hummus that characteristic rich and deep nutty flavour (if that's what authentic hummus is supposed to taste like anyway)?

I tried a spoonful of tahini on its own made from raw sesame seeds and it tasted pretty bland. There's a juice bar I visit all the time just for their hummus, but I never got around to asking how they make theirs. Is it possible that I'm not adding enough tahini? Or is it possible that that they're using sunflower seed butter instead?

Tahini... A lot of tahini, salt lemon and the water you cooked the beans in .... Make sure you don't use any salt when you cook the hummus (garbanzo) beans because it will cause them to be less tender. Importantly - when eating the hummus eat it with a good amount if olive oil

Actually it's just because you haven't added enough tahini. You need more than you think. 3 large tablespoons at the very minimum, depending on how much you're making. Authentic hummus only has chick peas, tahini, garlic, and lemon juice. So if that's what you're after, just keep adding tahini until you get the desired level of nuttiness. No need to do anything complicated. Hope this helps!

hummus is made from chickpeas (garbanzo beans) not sesame seeds. hummus can have a variety of flavors, it all depends on how you season it. I like to add lemon and garlic to mine, or red peppers. I've never had one that was nutty before. adding tahini will not enhance the flavor because as you've said, it's bland to begin with. that's like trying to flavor your water with water and wondering why it's not working.

Tahini paste, which is available with the exotic peanut butters in some stores. If you can't find tahini which comes in a jar like peanut butter you could try almond butter.

Have you tried roasting some pine nuts and using them? They're usually in the basic hummus recipes.
