Why are the Government able to change the Junior Doctors contracts when the doctors have a contract in law?
No I am not a troll!!!
In the UK, the junior doctors are being forced to take a new contract by the government.
They are in dispute about this but there is no mention anywhere of Contract Law, so why are the government not being challenged in court?
Thanks for the answers so far.8-))
Surely the doctors contracts are on going as far as I know, just like when you get a job unless it is a fixed term contract?
No, an employer can't just change employee's hours and wages without the consent of the employee.
If they do that then it is a breach of contract and the employee is considered to have been fired and can take a case to an industrial tribunal and get his job back under the same conditions.
Does anyone know the actual legal position?

Because Dave, George and the gang of public school dead-pig-abusers are Tories and in government!
No other reason

No idea what that means. What country are you talking about? I have been in health care for years and have never heard of a junior doctor. Nor do I know any doctors with government contracts.

Because their old contracts will eventually expire and the government can then impose new contracts. The doctors will then be free to refuse them and lose their jobs.

In the same way as any employer can change their employees' wages and hours of work. That's what the doctors are complaining about.
