Good work out plans for a 5'4 190 pound 19 year old female?

I've gained back about 25 pounds ('happy weight') in the past year after becoming several depressed. I'm attempting to eat healthier and cut our all sugars and most carbs, but I need a work out plan to go along with it. I wanted to do cardio maybe 4 times a week after work and try out yoga and cycling. What do you guys suggest is the best way to lose around 20-45 pounds? My goal is to slim back down by Winter break. Thank you!

A good workout plan begins with good and factual information.

First, cardio is not the best form of exercise for losing body fat. The best is aerobic exercise which outwardly resembles cardio, but is not the same. Aerobic exercises are done at a slightly lower intensity/pace than cardio; you do the exercises at a pace such that you feel you right on the edge of being able to carry on a conversation without losing your breath. Examples of aerobics are: fast walking, jogging, dancing, using equipments such as an exercycle, treadmill, elliptical, etc. You utilize your major muscles in a steady constant motion while breathing regularly; you to this for at least 20 minutes 4 to 5 times a week.

Yoga is good for muscle tone and some strength training, but does not burn as much calories as aerobics.

Furthermore, while cutting out sugars and most carbs, you still have to watch how much calories you are consuming. The only time your body is losing fat is when you burn more calories then you consume. You also need to understand something call Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); that's BMR and NOT BMI.

Almost every single diet works by temporarily putting your body into a state of ketosis. In this state, your body burns fat for energy instead of burning carbs and protein. But these diets ultimately fail because they allow too many carbs to be reintroduced, which flips your body’s source of energy from fat back to carbs.

Hey there! It sounds like you have a realistic goal, which is a great way to start. I would aim to workout 5-6 days a week. But be sure to mix it up with different kinds of exercise. Cardio is great but I encourage you to strength train. Adding weights to your workout boosts your metabolism, and increases lean muscle mass which gives women shape/curves in places we actually want them! Also, diet plans are often lacking in something, whether it be variety, certain essential nutrients, calories, etc. And many contain hidden pitfalls and misinformation. So I d also encourage you to seek a diet that revs up your metabolism as well. I have dealt with the battle of the bulge and perceived deadlines and this worked for me. If you take action of this nature, I m sure you will lose at least 25 lbs. long before winter break! Here are some websites that I found offered some really good tips.

    Best wishes!

Burn more calories than you take in. It really doesn't matter HOW you exercise...just stay off the couch and keep moving.

Carbs are not inherently evil. Vegetables have carbs for pete's sake. Remember, fat has 9 calories per gram and carbs/protein have 4 calories per gram. Watch the fatty meat, butter, cheese and chips.

Remember, there aren't many fat vegans out there and they eat LOADS of carbs.

Keep moving...that's the most important thing. Walk, swim, do gardening, join a sports team, volunteer on a farm....if yoga or treadmill floats your boat, go for it. Only you know what you like to do. But move, move, move your body.
