real butter, Crisco in the can you measure, margarine sticks(never use margarine in a tub because that has water mixed in it)

The closest substitute for me is Vegetable oil. The Smoke point for frying is quite high. There are also cookie recipes that won't turn out "right" if butter is used. and I'm picky. Also My experience is Crisco is Magic for certain things and has it's place. it makes things crisp better when frying, not much else beats it for frying Chicken to crispy perfection.

There's also the Peanut Butter Cookie of theirs that I do half butter half Crisco, which tends to add Crispy depending on baking time.

    Any shortening would work.

It may depend on what you are making or doing.

For baking butter but the texture of what you are making will change. If you are making cookies they will be flatter and a bit crisper. For cakes they will not change much except they may taste "richer" and ...buttery.

If you are frying something use oil or crisco in a can or lard.

Sure. Crisco is a substitute for what people used for baking before Crisco was invented. Lard, or butter, in most cases

Lard or butter. Use Plugra butter. Has low water content.

Sure. Use unsalted butter, ghee, or coconut oil. Avoid margarine as it has too much water in it. However, do a little research on the internet about substitutes for butter. Crisco is made of hydrogenated vegetable oil, and is one of the worst things for your health.
