Can you get a government position with a Financial Economics degree? Or do you need an actual economics degree?

I am aware with a Financial Economics degree you work in various Finance positions and you can actually take the CFA(Chartered Financial Analyst) exam and possibly the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) exam. But would a Financial Economics degree work for a government position? Let's say if I day dreamed of being the US President or some other government role would a Financial Economics degree be acceptable? Or would have needed to be economics?
