Hypothesis are Americans particularly religious because they descended from Puritans?

Most Americans treat atheists very poorly for example and tolerate racism and bigotry more freely (and greed) than other countries if it's in done in the name of religion.

Update:

When I mention other countries I'm not trying to make out other countries are perfect or even better than the US, I've just noticed the US can be quite fundamentalist when compared to other western Christian countries.

    You are a sucker for subliminal suggestion and hyperbole. You don't know enough about the U.S. or the "other countries" to be able to realistically compare them.
