  • Chi-Squared. Need to find expected number of tootsie roll pops?

Suppose you conduct research to test student preference among five types of candy. One thousand students are included in your sample. One of the candy selections is Tootsie Roll Pops. You use chi-square to analyze the data. Based on the null hypothesis, how many students do you expect to choose Tootsie Roll Pops?

  • does she like me... and if so what do I do?

Girl says she hates me, but acts like she doesn't? Is sometimes flirty with me, but she has a boyfriend. Is really shy and doesn't talk to anyone except me. Does she like me? And if so... what do I do since she has a bf? Her boyfriend lives an hour away back in her hometown. It's a high school romance lingering into college.

  • Solve for x... rational exponent x^(5/3) = 1-2x^2?

    x^(5/3) = 1 - 2x^2

I've tried absolutely everything, I know it has 5 roots, 4 are imaginary, 1 is real.

I need to find the real value.

I've tried using x^(5/6)^2 as my ax^2 term, but it just doesn't fall out into anything nice.

  • Good offseason training regimen for distance swimming?

I just finished my sophomore year of college swimming and I wanted to know what kind of offseason training I should do to be ready for distance swimming next year? I swim 500, 1000 and 1650.

  • Need help with my 500 freestyle?

I just finished my conference championship as a sophomore in college. I swim division 3 as a distance specialist. I really want to get to 5:00.00 or as close as I can by this time next year.

Here are my splits for my best time, a 5:26. Any suggestions on what I can do to improve the quality and efficiency of my race? My 1000 time is an 11:19 and my 1650 time is an 18:54.

  • Fun math question. Let's see who is truly elite.?

Given two arbitrary odd integers a and b, prove that a^3 - b^3 is divisible by 2^n iff a-b is divisible by 2^n.

    Note: I have half the work done. I have one way proved. In other words I have found that 2^n | a-b -> 2^n | a^3 - b^3. I have yet to show that 2^n | a^3- b^3 -> 2^n | a-b.

Any help just on that second half would be greatly appreciated!

  • Having trouble with a breakup.?

A couple of days ago my girlfriend found that I had been talking to my ex-girlfriend because my ex-girlfriend messaged me that she was very upset because of a break-up that she just went through. I'm a kind, compassionate soul and no matter the person, I like to help them. I guess this was a bad idea. My girlfriend told me many months ago not to talk to my ex because she is nothing but trouble. Later in the text messages, but before my breakup, I had said things to my ex-girlfriend such as "Hey we should go on a date!" and then later I said "Just kidding, I was just trying to get underneath your skin."

Anyway, my girlfriend broke up with me in furious fashion and I'm having a hard time coping. She says she wants to just be friends for a month and see if I've learned my lesson from talking to my ex-girlfriend. I'm thrilled that my girlfriend, now ex-girlfriend, wants to give it another chance to make this work, but I'm just having a hard time coping with this. What are things that I can do specifically to earn her trust back?

  • Math Question... 10 Points To First Correct Answerer?

    Prove that for every integer n, the number En = 5^n + 2*3^(n-1) +1 is a multiple of 8.

I tried to use induction, but I was told that a more simple way of doing it was using the rules of divisibility by 8.

    Any ideas?

Don't use any sort of number theory (modulus). Apparently the answer is very simple and it is only using the rules of when a number is divisible by 8.

I know that the last three digits of any number divisible by 8 is always divisible by 8, but would this be applied here?

I am the system administrator for my university's CS lab, and I want to know if it is possible to run a command every time any user logs in through the console (not remotely).

If so, what files would I need to edit or what procedure do I need to go through?

  • Girlfriend / relationship problems.?

I have a girlfriend and we have been dating for almost 7 months. Lately, roughly two weeks or so ago, she has said that sex hurts and that she doesn't ever feel like she's in the mood to have sex. She says that she gets no enjoyment out of any touching of erogenous areas and that is very concerning to me. We used to have relatively good sex, at least it was mutual, but now I get put in the doghouse for even an iota of sexual reference or attempt. I don't know what I should do. We've talked about how big of a problem this is, and if this continues... things might not work out. I truly love this girl with all of my heart, but being 19 and at my sexual peak, it is just very frustrating.

Does anyone have any experience with this, and if so, what do you suggest?

  • 11) Is the line through (-4,-6,1) and (-2,0,-3) parallel to the line through (10,18,4) and (5,3,14)?

    11) Is the line through (-4,-6,1) and (-2,0,-3) parallel to the line through (10,18,4) and (5,3,14)?

    For reference I'll name them points A B C D respectively.

I got both pair of points into symmetric form, which I converted into parametric form, and then to vector form. At this point I would have two vectors that represent r0 + tv.

Could I take the magnitude of the cross product of those vectors and if that equals 0, then the two vectors are parallel, and thus the two lines containing A B & C D respectively are parallel? The book says they are parallel, but I can't seem to get that result. Any help you can offer?

  • Someone who has both MAC OS X experience and OpenLDAP?

I am systems administator of the university CS lab.

I have a Mac here and I'm trying to extend the directory to our OpenLDAP server. We use NFS as well. Can anyone help me? I know nothing of Macs in this respect except for the fact that they already have LDAP on them, which seems to be convenient.

    Thank you for your help!
