Last weekend, at our company Christmas party, we were all given gift certificates from our employer as Christmas "gifts." A few days later, we were all handed a form to sign. The form first asks you to acknowledge that you received the certificates, and then asks you to "approve" that the amount will be added to the your next paycheck for "W2 purposes."

I have never received a Christmas bonus or gift from any company I've worked for, then had it added to my paycheck. I'm not sure I want to have to pay state/fed taxes on this supposed "gift." Is this becoming a common practice now? What's behind this?

Part of me wants to hand the certificates back and say "no thanks." It's not that much money.

I was doing some reading on the net in regard to the idea of Noah taking dinosaurs on the ark - which I don't believe at all, by the way, but I was interested in researching the reasoning behind the idea.

I came across a Web site which proclaims the following:

"We know that dinosaurs were alive at the time since they were fossilized during the Flood, many in active poses suggesting fear of their impending doom and horrific realization, however faint and dinosaurish, of their God-displeasing wickedness."

How do animals sin? How are animals God-displeasing? Can anyone who believes this is true explain this idea?

around a cat right now? I adopted a kitty about a month or so ago, and she is crazy about chasing the cursor on my computer monitor. My other cat couldn't care less. Do you let your cat play and adapt to him/her? I'm a wimp - I adapt to her... LOL.

For those of you who go out of your way to be rude and insensitive to those asking for prayer - it seems to me that you are more concerned about your agenda than the fact that these are people who are dealing with some sort of tragedy or distress in their lives. I almost want to compare it with the actions of the members of the Westboro Baptist Church. They are more concerned about pushing their agenda of hate than the fact that people are grieving. If you don't believe in prayer, why even bother to click on the question? Try a little compassion, no matter what your belief.

I'm watching "Dr. Phil" now, and he is interviewing a 60+ yr old man who admitted molesting his granddaughter. When asked "why" and "how," his repeated answer is, "the devil got control of me." He will not take personal responsibility for this act. He has apparently done some prison time, counseling, and has "found the lord again," and so thinks he's cured. Isn't "the devil made me do it" just a crutch to avoid accountability? If you believe the devil exists, what are your thoughts? Or even if you don't.

There is a lot of talk here about tolerance. I do believe in being tolerant of differing lifestyles, religions, and beliefs. But someone once taught me that 'what you tolerate, you encourage.' Now this might be more applicable on a smaller, more personal level, but does that idea change or affect your feelings about tolerance - in terms of what we should or should not tolerate, or to what level - in any way?

I have a cat that's a bit of a 'litter flinger' when he digs. Normally it's not a problem as I have an enclosed litter box for him. But he got into my other cat's non-enclosed litter box and flung a little. Then it accidentally got wet (just water) before I could get it vacuumed up. Does anyone know of an effective way to get it out of the carpet without making a worse mess? Advice appreciated... thanks!

I was scanning the AP wire at work this morning and read the story. It made me very uneasy, though I do understand what the parents are dealing with. I'm not sure this is exactly the correct forum, but I am curious about your thoughts.
