I would like the information on where to get the entire retreat workbook.

An older retired woman with no family locally has no friends because she has alienated everyone by her rudeness recently had hip surgery and now is in the nursing home. I feel I should go see her because she has no one, but I have been hesitant to do so because I am not too enthusiastic about the probability of her being rude to me. My husband and adult children have advised not to bother with her because she will hurt my feelings. What say you?

My family and I are going to visit my husband's adult children whom I have never met. My husband is retired army. We are middle class. I am 48 years old and not athletic. I have been told there will be a lot of walking. What should I pack to wear? We will be leaving August first and staying about 2 weeks. Any fashion help would be appreciated. My friend invited herself to our house for Thanksgiving, then asked if she could bring a guest. (ok, that's fine) She called that afternoon and asked if the food was done, I said we were running late, but we had snacks to begin with, and they could come over to visit until time to eat. She said no, that she would rather go to the sales at Kmart or maybe she would just drive home because the food was not ready. (45 minute drive). She called an hour later and said her husband's family (where she refused to go ) had fed her baby the wrong foods and made him sick and cranky, so she was going home. She also said her husband had not eaten at his mother's house and would have to stop somewhere for food on the way home. (She repeated this three times). I told her I respected her decision to put her baby first and I supported her decision to take her baby home because he was sick. So, at this point she said she would be back on sunday to eat leftovers. I said there may not be leftovers, as our guests were still arriving. Here is my dilemma, This woman has been a close friend for years. I purposely gave away most of the leftovers to the guests that came for the meal. I do not wish to see my friend tomorrow because I am hurt. She already texted me saying she would see me tomorrow (because her husband forgot some of the baby's things at his mother's house). I know the only reason she wants to see me is to expect a free meal. Any ideas how to handle this diplomatically?

The Catholic church has a lot A LOT of money. If they wanted to stop abortion bad enough, wouldn't the Vatican have put it's money where it's mouth is at any point since 1973?

My friend's husband will be having fairly serious surgery in Iowa City next week. They are not wealthy and would have to borrow money to afford a motel. Is there a house for family from out of town to stay as there is in some other cities?

They live about 3 hours away from the hospital.

I, along with my daughters, belong to AMVETS Auxiliary, a support organization for Veterans composed of the female non-veteran relatives of the Veterans. The group is composed of older white ladies who do not warm up to others well. My daughters and I are the youngest members of the group. My daughters are 20 & 21, I am 47.

The lady that had visited our group was probably late 60's to early 70's and black. She told the President of the group that she found the group largely unwelcoming.

I see no difference in the color of people. My best friend has a black husband and mixed kids. My friend's kids call me their other mother and people often think her kids belong to me. My daughters have grown up with her kids. We have lived with my best friend on different occasions, and I feel fortunate to be blessed with these friends.

I am a rather shy person, and just said Hi to her, my daughters went up and had probably a three minute conversation with her.

She will be at a social event that we will be attending next month. How can my family make this lady feel our interest and friendship towards her?

We really want to try to make a good impression this time.

David Caradine was a wonderful actor, and while his personal life was never as peaceful and harmonious as his roles, isn't this a tragic way to go. I know the autopsy results are still pending.

I want him to have a big enough pen, but I have only seen 10x10 pens here. City guidelines are vague on such issues. He will be spending 2-3 hours outside on nice days when we are home and in the yard.

I gave up soda a week ago because my diabetic lab results were not to my liking. I gave up some other unhealthy foods, but this one really stings. The cravings are not going away. Suggestions please? It was diet cola btw.

My husband is 68 with heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes.

I don't worry too much about me, but I want to limit his exposure. Our kids are 20 & 21 and plan to follow their normal routine (they live at home and go to the community college)

How long do I need to plan to stay away from crowds?

How safe are foods prepared by others? ie restaurants and fast food?

Is there any way the water supply will become contaminated? or are we fairly safe on that?

My husband was an army nurse for 25 years and he is overly cautious.
