Where can I buy amano or cherry shrimp?
I'm looking to add some amano or cherry shrimp to one of my tanks to assist slightly in the algae control. Does anyone know a good website to purchase them, or a good local fish store in the Sanford/Lake Mary (FL) area which carries these? I'd prefer it to be relatively cheap if possible.
I've been trying to search myself online but have had little to no luck.
2 AnswersFish7 years agoHow many kuhli loaches can live in...?
My 10 gallon tank? It is fully cycled, has a heater with the temp set at a steady 78, has a filter with a 180gph flow, and is heavily planted?
There is a cave in the tank which is a foot long, so they will have a good place to hide, and the bottom layer of the tank is covered in sand.
Flora: Cyperus helferi, dwarf hairgrass, staurogyne repens, anubias nana, hornwort, and java ferns
Fauna: One plakat male betta
2 AnswersFish7 years agoWould a black moor goldfish eat a kuhli loach?
I have a black moor goldfish in a 25 gallon tank (the tank was originally built for reptiles, not fish) and currently it's just gravel and fake plants with a filter and heater. I plan on re-doing this setup this weekend and move the black moor into a temporary 10 gallon tank. The temp tank will have the same water as the 25 gallon tank, and the same filter as the large tank had an algae outbreak and needs a thorough scrubbing.
When I'm done with the cleanup, I plan to create a planted tank with anubias and large round stones forming what mimics a riverbed. There would be plenty of hiding places, and I know loaches can be kept singularly, so my question is would my goldfish eat my loach if I got one? My goldie is pretty big, a little over 7 inches including the tail. If this won't work would a few cory catfish work?
The tank temp is kept around 74 degrees, which works for many types of tropical fish, so please don't tell me goldfish are coldwater. Black moor and a few other types of fancy goldfish like warmer waters.
1 AnswerFish8 years agoBest way to cure a planted tank?
I have a 6.6 gallon Petco bookshelf tank stocked with 1 male betta (Gwendle), 2 otto catfish, and about 10 ghost shrimp. I recently discovered Gwendle has coloumnaris, (he got it from some neon tetras I added as tankmates before ultimately removing them due to improper stocking) and these are my questions.
1. What is the best medication for treating coloumnaris?
2. Where can I get said medicine and is it sold at big chain stores? (i.e. petco, petsmart, etc)
3. I have a planted tank and want to keep it that way; is there a medicine that won't require a separate tank for medicating or won't harm my plants?
4. Will my ottos and ghost shrimp need to be treated as well?
The otto catfish will be moved eventually to my 20 gallon, but right now it is housing a goldfish I'm waiting for my cousin to take back, so please no lectures, I don't want to hear it. I just want to heal my fish so they can go back to their lives and I to mine.
1 AnswerFish8 years agoHow many Otos can I get for this tank?
I have a 6.6 gallon bookshelf aquarium which currently is housing a rather agressive Betta; Gwendle, and two gost shrimp. Gwendle tore up some of the neon tetras (6) which were recommended as tankmates, so I removed/relocated them to my 20 gal long tank. He lived before with a single cory in a 2.5 gal tank with no issues, so I figured a group of Otos could also live undistrubed with him and knock out the new algae growth in the tank.
Summary:
Stocking: 1 male betta, 2 ghost shrimp
Tank Dimensions: 6.6 gallons, 24" long, 8" wide, 9"deep
Question: How many Otos can I get?
4 AnswersFish8 years agoIs my platy going to die?? :(?
I was watching my platys today because two of my females are expected to give birth soonish and then something strange happened. One of my male platy fish got really startled today from the dominant male in the tank and it careened headfirst into the glass... now hes shaped like an S. He can swim fine and aside from being very nervous he seems alright, but he doesn't seem able to move his head back. Like he screwed something up in his little spine or something :( He can't physically move himself into a straight line. What should I do? Will he survive this? He's still in the main tank because I'm afraid to startle him more. Any advice is very helpful! This has never happened to me before... the last time a fish of mine looked like that it'd gotten sucked up by the filter. :(
2 AnswersFish9 years agoSuper aggressive tiger barb?
I have a 15 gallon fully cycled tank that I've been trying to stock with some tiger barbs. The first time I stocked it I had 7 of them. They did fine for the first week, they were all about the same size, seemed to be content overall, didn't pick on eachother much. The second week however, there were 4 deaths. At first I thought I had a problem with the water so I ran tests, no ammonia issues, no pH unbalances. So I thought maybe it was just something wrong with some of the fish. I kept an eye out for all the diseases I knew about and they didn't have any. Then about a week later before I went to add more, two of the three fish left were found pretty much shreaded. I've been feeding my fish regularly twice a day, but this one tiger barb I have left has killed every other fish I have tried to put with it, from green tiger barbs to other standard tiger barbs. So now I've got the little thing in a one gallon tank complete with a filter and light for a heater as a form of isolation so he will stop killing all the other fish. He's stayed healthy in the small tank for the last three months and my new tank is now happily stocked with a different shoal of barbs, but I fear putting him in the tank with the others. Any advice on what to do with this little demon? (Killing him is not an option.)

3 AnswersFish1 decade agoHelp please! It's my bunny....?
I have a year and a half old bunny. He's sick and could be dying but my parents are total assholes and wont go to the vet. He kinda freaked out and fell in his cage and I ran over to see what was wrong and there were these crystalized chunks of what i assume was snot lodged in his nose. i quickly removed it all, but i know hes sick. Is there anything at all i can do at home that can save him?

19 AnswersFish1 decade agoWhat can i do about 4 goldfish?
i have 3 common goldfish and 1 commet goldfish in a 20 gallon tank, the largest goldfish is a little over 3" but i know my tank is over crowded. the water and all is pretty stable, and i have 1 30 gallon filter and 1 10 gallon filter running, i am going to replace the 10 gallon one soon. but i just need some suggestions about what to do with my 2 extra goldfish i refuse to kill them, i have no room for a tank, i know its illegal to release them despite the fact theres a creek very close by, and my neighbors with a pond will not take them. i wont sell them online or take them to a petstore where they will be shoved in with many other fish and eventually just die. please help me.

2 AnswersFish1 decade agoWhy are my guppies dying?
i had 3 male guppies in a 10 gallon tank and right away they started figting and stuff... but i figured they were just hungry. i fed them and then they were fine for about 3 minuets and went back to picking on one of the guppies. the biggest orange one ripped off most of the yellow ones tail and then after that the other blue one i had ripped off a scale! i put the little guy in a hospital tank, but it didnt make it. he was badly injured so i wasnt too surprised. i was still sad. but then a month and a half later i went to feed the guppies in the morning like i do, and the little blue one was randomly dead. i checked the water and the ammonia was pretty high so i did water changes for 3 days and now its back to normal... but now my last guppy is swimming kinda sideways and he has fin rot. im going to buy treatment today but what am i doing wrong?
i have an oto catfish in the tank too... just throwing that out there. im really confused and thinking about returning the oto and just getting a minnow. start over and start simpler. even though i thought guppies were easy...
anyway and help or advice?
