My 40th birthday and Hanukkah both fell in November. My mother said she wanted to get me an iPhone as a gift as both my birthday and Hanukkah included because it was so expensive (okay no problem)...our family also does Elfster, which is like a pollyanna and each of us is drawn a family member's name and we have to get them a $50 gift...well this year it turned out that Mom got me and when it came time for everyone to give out their gifts, she was proud to say her's was included in her beautiful Hanukkah gift I already got, my iPhone...

(now this was not a cheap gift...it cost to activate the phone, she got me a case and the Apple care insurance for 2 years)...but that was supposed to be my special 40th birthday gift and Hanukkah only I was under the impression...

so I just sat there and held up my iPhone for my family to see...not that they haven't seen one before, I think they all have them even my nieces...

I spent some time on Elfster picking out gifts I would have been happy to receive (we have to give ideas to our family members)...

So anyway, I was disappointed...it was my one "guaranteed" gift I knew I was getting...if my mom had been drawn any other family member she would have had to buy them a $50 gift...so to me, my Hanukkah gift and Pollyanna gift should not be considered one and the same? Am I wrong...am I being selfish?

My mom gives me a lot throughout the year...so it has nothing to do with $50...it's just the idea of being handed another gift...I hardly get any gifts throughout the year and it just would have been nice...

I just want other's opinions if you do a family pollyanna, is that separate from everything else? I'm just hurt my mother thought they were one and the same and want to know if I am just selfish :(

My son can use his Mii when he plays against the computer on Mario Kart, but when he tried to use it online it says this Mii can not work online...but my daughter's Mii works online??? What's the difference???

I filed bankruptcy bank in 2005...I need this loan to help with the last 3 months of rent (I will be getting my eviction notice soon but I still have time to go to court to delay things)..I know I am SOL (I went to my bank first to try to get a loan but got denied...) I am very scared...I make a nice salary just hard to get out of this hole...almost everything else is paid for except my rent which is very important...I don't want to hear jokes and things like that but is there any banks or legit ways I can borrow up to $5,000? :(

Someone once told me that every single Social Security number has only even numbers as the two middle digits...and then I started asking everyone and it seemed to be true...of course you will see Social Security numbers with an odd middle numbers but I was told those are fake numbers...so basically I am doing a survey...now I don't need to know everyone's middle number to their social security number but I am curious about those people with an odd number for ONLY the middle number...

what made me think of this again was the commercials for LifeLock where the guy gives his social security number and I remember it being an odd middle numbers and thinking of course he is giving it out because it is a fake number...have any one else heard that if the middle number of a social security number is an odd number then it is not real?

I know there are gonna be some comments that "I didn't even know they're still around" or "they suck" but I love Anthrax and have been a fan since the beginning, and have always stuck with them through good and bad...

I got one of my bosses for the Secret Santa and I'm not sure what to get him...but then I know he loves fish and has about 4 tanks in his office...I think it would be awesome if I can give him a personalized ornament for his fish tank...what I was thinking was the actual company's logo...I was wondering if there was an online store that I could send them a picture of the logo and they could turn that into a fish tank ornament...do you think it is possible or does anyone know of any store?

My 7 year old daughter takes the school bus because my hours changed at work and I can no longer picked her up...I just found out that students can only take the bus up until 2nd grade...how crazy is that?!? We lived the furthest from the school she is zoned for...she would have to walk almost 11 blocks (almost a mile) and they think this is safe for an eight year old?!? and what about when it rains, and the snow and ice...She doesn't have older friends she can walk with...I am desperately searching for a car pool service...and to make it worse I thought she would be able to ride the bus with her brother who will be 4 next year and in pre-K and found out that student in pre-K cannot ride the bus?!? That I don't understand since Pre-K is now a full day.

I think there has to be exceptions to the rule...I know I am upset because it's my daughter but am I wrong in thinking that 11 blocks is to much for an 8-year-old to walk alone and that's including crossing at a major intersection

Okay this is something that has really been bothering me...people really do not pay attention to the Walk/Do Not Walk lights when crossing the street. (here in in NYC it is usually a red hand for do not walk, and a person for walk)...they are there for a reason and people ignore them. The thing that bothers me the most is when the red hand is up for pedistrians not to walk because cars were given the green light to turn only...so now all these pedistrians are in the street, the cars can't turn and then the light turns green and the rest of the traffic starts moving...I might not be able to express properly how I am feeling correctly, but it just bothers me that pedistrians do not follow the walk/do not walk lights...they really are there for a reason!!!

I guess my question is how many of you honestly following the Walk/Do Not Walk lights? It really is frustrating to me when a car has the green light to turn and the pedistrian crosses when (s)he has the Do Not Walk sign lite up

I have found places in Manhattan that are kid friendly (the places where they sit in cars, or play video games or watch movies as they are getting their hair cut)...I also go to a place like this when I visit family in PA...I remember reading about a place out in Long Island but now I can't find any type of place like this is Queens or LI...I am assuming there has to be a kid-friendly hair salon somewhere in the borough, where does everyone go to get their children's hair cut...I am mainly interseted in this for my 3-year-old...Thanks in advance

We just came back from the eye doctor (we both go every 6 months)...My daughter (who will be 7 in July) can see but the lens helped her to see lines that were normally blurry. The doctor said that while she is young, up to age 11 or so the eyes is still forming, well the nerves and everything behind the scene so to speak...Anyhow, I am not a doctor but if my doctor tells me she needs to wear glasses all the time then I am gonna listen to him...

Here's my problem:

Her father does not want her wearing glasses...he said he never heard of someone wearing glasses when they were young to help them in the future to not have to wear them...I told him I am not a doctor but would gladly let him take her somewhere else to get a second opinion...He feels that by wearing glasses will not help her to get better but only to make her dependent on them and that she would need it for the rest of her life...he is not a doctor, how can I "fight" him on this?...okay running out of characters now *sigh*

Hi there...I just wanted to get some ideas because I can't think what to get my step-brother for his 30th birthday (his party is tomorrow)...Please I really need suggestions because I am going tonight to buy something...I guess I want to spend no more than $40...I don't really know what he likes...I know he likes sports (well watching them anyway) but I have no idea about his music taste or what books he might like so I just wanted to get some ideas because I do want to get him something nice since it is a special age...

I'm assuming I just keep taking the pills as normal (meaning the sugar pills for the next four days) and my period will come soon...and then start the new pack four days from now regardless of when my period comes? Maybe since this is my first month my system isn't set yet so I just assumed I would get my period when I was to start taking the sugar pills...Any suggestions (and I know it takes a good 6-8 weeks for the pills to work but I know I am not pregnant)...

I saw my doctor a few weeks ago and I think he said to start taking the pills on the Sunday after I get my period...So I got my period this Friday so does mean I take the first pill tomorrow....or do I wait for my period to be over and start next Sunday (which I don't think is correct)...it's just been so long since I've been on the pill that I forget...Since I've had my period for a few days now I am assuming that I start the pill tomorrow to start changing my cycle....do you girls think that is correct?

I know I should've called my doctor to confirm but I didn't...(and now it is too late)
