  • When trying to conceive, should I refrain from sleeping on my electric blanket?

I know it's a silly question, but my fiance and I are trying to conceive, and we're finding it difficult. I know that high heat kills sperm inside the testicles and after ejaculation, but can it kill when they're already in my cervix/womb? Should I sleep on the cold side of the bed to be safe and ensure the best environment for my soon-to-be-babies?

  • Last night positive, tonight negative? How does that work?

OK, quick background: I'm 22, engaged, employed, and living with my fiance...

Last night, after about a week of thinking I was pregnant, and to be honest being sh*t-scared about it, I took a pregnancy test. It was that digital Clearblue one (if that matters) and it said a very definite "Pregnant" - so I spent all of today thinking about it and planning to go to the doctor this weekend. However, I still had one test left in the box, and I wanted to see that "Pregnant" again (it disappears about an hour after testing)

    ...It said "Not pregnant"...

So, my question is this: Am I bloody pregnant or not? :p

If I am, I don't know what I'm going to do. I spent all day being sooo happy, even though I know my parents will kill me (dad thinks I should be married first, even though I'm older than Mum was when I came along and his own parents weren't married when they started procreating)

If I'm not, i think I'll be devastated. I didn't realise just how much I want to have a baby.

My dad is the main obstacle. He over-reacts and sometimes can take a while to come around to big things. And this is going to be huge in his mind.

  • I know it's a bit geeky, but which character should I go as for the Harry Potter book release tomorrow?

I'm thinking Luna, Ginny, or Lily.

They're all fairly easy for me to do, I don't mind dying my blonde hair red (just a rinse though, last time I had a permanent color in, I hated it after about a week)

Lily and Ginny are very similar in looks, so if you suggest one of those, I'd like some input into how I can distinguish one from the other (I'll be reading the books again later to get more ideas) I have green colored contacts to play Lily as well, so no problem there.

For Luna, I need ideas on how I can make radish earrings without actually hanging vegetables from my ears.

For all three, I need ideas on the actual clothing side, and possibly make-up.

I have narrowed it down to these three characters, and have very much decided I'm not dressing up as Hermione - the majority of girls in the queue will be going as her, and I want to be different. Plus I don't want to dye my hair brown (I don't have a problem dying my hair, as you can tell, but I don't like brown)

  • I'm having a hard time wording my 21st birthday invitations...?

It's a bedtime theme, so basically a pyjama party. So far I have:

    It's a pyjama party!

Wear your sleepwear, Bring a Teddy bear, and show off your bed hair!

But I don't like that, it doesn't sound right to me. Can anyone help? I still want emphasis on the three points, pyjamas teddy bears and messy "bed head" ...

  • Is there any way I can run The Sims 2 without the disc?

I have no clue where it's gone, and I desperately miss playing the game. I have the first two extentions (NightLife and University) so I know I really need the Night Life disc to run it, but I can't find *any* discs at all.

  • Having problems with Flash on Mozilla?

    I keep getting this message

everytime I'm on Mozilla and going to a page that needs Flash to run:

    Illegal Operation in plugin

    Shockwave Flash

The plugin has performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to

    restart Navigator.

This has happened everytime I try, for about a week. I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash but that didn't work either.

  • I'm going crazy trying to remember the name of this book. It features a girl playing a virtual reality game...

Also, some of what I can remember:

    * I think the girl's name was Miriam

    * I actually found the name of the book a few months ago, but I've forgotten again, and have a vauge feeling it was "a new world" or something, but that's not coming up on google or anything...

    * The girl lived on a houseboat

    * She was scared of eyes blinking at her in the dark, and this was one of the points in the book

    * The game was played with a boy, and featured a kind of map that they selected the levels on. The map was based on the continents and they had to find certain items in the levels.

    * The boy, at one point in the game, was bitten by spiders.

    * I think his name was James, but I'm not sure.

  • Do you have any general driving tips for me? Especially have a problem with Parking?

I'm FINALLY going for my license in a few weeks, after having my Learners' Permit for FOUR years... Does anyone have pointers on how to relax a little? Another problem I need to work out before I go for the test is:

How do I determine how close I am to the gutter (kerb, for you pedants) without actually hitting the damn thing? The only chance I get to practise my parking is when I go with my driving instructor ever couple of weeks. My mum's a terrible parker, so she can't teach me, and my dad's ineligible to take me on drives.

  • What, in your opinion, is the ultimate "chick car"?

Also, if you can be bothered answering, what do you think the ultimate guys' car is?

Okay, I admit it, I'm only asking because I'm bored. I've been obssessed with driving lately (getting ready to do my test in a few weeks) and so have spent a lot of time on car sites (although I already have a great car) and designing which custom plates I want once I can afford them.

Thanks to all who answer :-) I'll give all *reasonable* answers a thumbs-up just for answering.

  • I need a plan for Valentines and fast. I'm in Melbourne, and not much money?

I was going to go to Luna Park with my boyfriend then a walk on the beach, maybe some fish 'n' chips for lunch, but I just looked at the pricing list for the Park and it'll cost almost $70 for both of us just to get in. Can anyone help me out by suggesting a nice (cheaper) date we could go on, without having to book anything?

Before anyone says he should pay for it all, he's going through a move at the moment and every cent he has has to go on food and other living expenses. And I make more money at the moment, so this is counting as my present to him, paying for our date.

  • Is it bad taste to ask people to put in money for my 21st?

I have around 80 people just in my family. So no matter what it'll be expensive. Add in that I kinda have expensive taste when it comes to my birthday parties, and you get where I'm going. Here's the list, just from what I've got so far, of what things will cost if I get all my first choices:

    1. DJ - $395

    2. Catering and Drinks: $30 per head for drinks, $13 per head for food = $43 per head x approx 100 people = $4,300 (!!!!!!)

    3. Costume (It's a costume party): approx $30

So, all up, that's.... $4,725, just for three things. That's not including the decorations I know I'll insist on, the designer cake, invitations, booking the Hall, one of those giant keys people have at thier 21st birthdays...

  • Need help with some questions about the world... These are meant to be aimed at 13-25 year olds?

*Apparently there are more people alive today than have died so far in the history of humankind, yet we have high level interventionist medicine and won’t allow euthanasia. Is this right? Where does this lead/leave us?

    * ‘Life is what happens when you are busy making plans’ John Lennon. Do you feel you spend your life well? If not, what should you do differently? If you died tomorrow, would you be happy with the way you have spent your life?

    * People seem to have less and less respect every generation, for others and for the world, however, recent events (the response among young people to the ‘make poverty history concerts/campaigns etc) suggests young people care and want to do something. Do people care less today? What actually can be done? – by individuals and by the masses – given the state of the world young people will inherit.

*Are we evolving at all? Are we learning from history or just repeating it? (eg Jihad & religious wars today cf crusades and religious disputes).

  • It sounds stupid, but which color should I get for my new phone?

I'm going to be getting a new Sony Ericsson Z610i, and I'm trying to decide which color I should get - pink or blue? I know, I know, it doesn't sound like such a huge choice, but I'm so indecicive about little things like this and I always get really annoyed at myself for it haha...

So, here's a few links, to help you make my choice :-p

Picture of all three colors availiable: http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/06/icon1_so...

  • Could it work again?

So I have this ex who wants me back. I could end it there, and leave you to answer my original question, but I want to give a bit of background.

I loved him. He loved me. He cheated on me just before almost a year of not seeing each other as much as we'd have liked. I cheated on him during that year (neither of us had sex with anyone else, just kissing at most) for revenge and because I was lonely. November that year rolls up, we have an argument, he dumps me. A few days later, I'm quite happy for once, he says he wants me back. I hold off for a year and a half, then he gets a new girlfriend.

Now, she's dumped him. He wants me back. I'm really only after the physical side, but I know he wants more of the emotion stuff. Which I'm fine giving him, but I feel I could do a bit better.

So, the question is, could we somehow come to a compromise whereby we have the best of both worlds? Could we make it work?

My friends and family REALLY dont like him, and I wouldn't tell them until later

  • I know this sounds weird, but can anyone remember the story of the Blue Banana?

I know I'll be getting a heap of "dirty" responses to this question, and I'll report every single one of them. But, anyway, there was this story I read years ago, when I was little, about a king who wanted a blue banana, instead of his usual yellow one, and from there I don't remember much. I half-remember some mention of ice-cream, if that helps....
