Naval Jelly and GunKote, will it leave a good enough finish?
I have a Old Dragoon 1927 Mosin that needs refinishing and I don't want to make a big trip to the blasting cabinet, I have to sneak it into work to do it and it's a big risk, but anyways. Will naval jelly give me a good enough finish to take off the rust and old Helga nail polish finish on the rifle so I can Gunkote it? I know GK it really picky on it's prep and I still might have to go with the blaster but I wanted some opinions and if anyone has used it before. I've used Aluma Hyde II before, great stuff for gun bodies but not for internal parts. I did another Mosin in it and it turned out great.
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoDoes a Mossberg 835 barrel fit a 590?
I've heard they do but I just want to check. I want a slug barrel for my new 590A1. Thanks
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIs it possible to reanimate a cow's heart? Seriously, Science project.?
I've heard of the rumor that if you hook up a battery "12 volt" to a cow's heart you can make it pump by the voltage. But I believe you would need AC to do this not DC. So maybe battery if you kept poking the heart every second, but anyways. Is this possible? I want to do this for a science project rather than just do a heart dissection.
3 AnswersBiology1 decade agoWhat is difference from the new Mossbergs 500 from the old ones, pre 2009?
I know they are different in some ways but I don't know what exactly they are. I'll be picking up their new Turkey 500 soon with the ported barrel, wood forearm and stock but I'll want to place a different barrel and mag tube on it later. Will I still be able to do this with the older barrels and mag tubes on this new model though? Also what after market parts will not fit it as well? Such as stocks, heat guards, grips and ect. Thanks.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoShould I use cottonwood trees for rapid growth tree in Western Oregon?
Hi, I'm in Western Oregon and I want to plant some trees soon that would rapidly grow in a few year, we get tons of rain all year long and plenty of sun in Summer so what is the best tree that would suit my needs and where could I get it already grown as a starter tree. I'm not caring about if it's a soft or hard wood tree of anything else than I need something that grows tall and wide in a short amount of time. Thanks.
And if you have and tips on how to grow it as fast as possible that be great, thanks.
Also I plan as planting these in one large patch of land on my property if that matters.

6 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoNeed help finding a traditional muzzle loader barrel wrench, please guys.?
I need a barrel wrench for my Hawkens .54 caliber muzzle loader. or just the block, I had make do with vise grips and leather and a vise, but this would really help me out, or if you guys have any other idea of how to remove a barrel from the breech plus on a octagonal traditional muzzle loader barrel.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoNylon brush over brass yet?
Just wondering does anyone use only a nylon brush on their bore now or still the brass brushes? I wonder because I was talking to a fellow that was saying he wouldn't ever touch his guns again with brass brush if he could help it.
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoMost important features when buying a sword?
What are the most important features about when buying a quality sword? I will be planning on buying a semi decent sword soon, nothing highly expensive, just something that will work and hold a edge well, "I know it's mainly the steel that matters" But what I was wondering when I'm looking for one what are some of the most important things to look for and want in a sword? Steel type, what is a fair or good or great sword steel, Blade angel? 10-15 degrees? or more in the 20 range? weight?
Any experience, info or opinions would be great.
3 AnswersMartial Arts1 decade agoSeriously help, where can I get a .357 Sig barrel for a Glock 27.?
My father conceals a Glock 27 on him almost all the time if not under the car seat when driving . And yes he has the papers for it. And I would like to buy him a .357 Sig barrel for it. I know they do/did have them but I can't seem to find them online. He bought a Wolf 9mm barrel, he just needs to buy a mag for it. I want to get him the .357 Sig for the power of it and how he can use his current .40 S&W Glock mags. The brand names I looked at used to make them but I can't seem to find any dealers. wtf. If someone can please give me a link for a page of the barrels for sale that be great. The Glock 27 is a sub-compact if I remember right so the barrel has to be short enough if he decides to use the .357 Sig as his personal carry round. Thanks.
And please don't say there's no where to get them or they stopped for a reason. Because I know that's not true.
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoHow many of you use less popular/odd ball calibers?
I grew up using mostly the common calibers, and I still do.
Such as:
.22lr
.223/5.56
.270
7mm-08
7.62x39mm
30-60
.308
45-75
9mm
40 S&W
.45 ACP
As least to me these are pretty common.
What are some calibers you use that are less popular or at least not too common?
18 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIf hunting was outlawed, would you still do it?
After reading DJ's new question made me wonder how it would be if things really got messed up. One of them being if hunting was outlawed or was majorly restricted or prices of tags were ridiculous. If they outlawed hunting, or majorly restricted it so most people couldn't do it or afford to do it. Would you still? I know this borders on pouching, but in a sense it doesn't too because we had already had the privilege before. I know the population could/would rise of some animals and become over populated so if we did "pouch" it wouldn't be any different than how we hunt now. Other than the people that do if for trophy and just sport. Not doing anything with the meat or animal than just hanging it for fun. You're thoughts?
I know the odds of this are slim but I want you opinions
20 AnswersHunting1 decade agoBest gun and round for a coyote?
What would you say the best round for a coyote is within 25-75 yards? And what rifle and round would be best that I'm willing to use on one, because I have extra ammo for those guns.
SKS with FMJ and HP rounds
Mosin Nagant with FMJ and soft lead nose rounds
A H&R rifle in 7mm-08 and .223, 7mm-8 being soft lead nose rounds and the .223 being FMJ.
10 AnswersHunting1 decade agoProblems with feeding a Marlin Camp 9 carbine with +P or +P+ ammo?
I'm going to be getting a Marlin camp 9 soon, it's a little rough but still works great, figure I'll invest some money into it. Rather than a old beat up, but still in shooting condition WW2 Springfield 1903, 1917 I got too. And I know it says you shouldn't shoot +P or +P+ ammo, but what could it hurt by doing so, I don't plan on feed it that all the time, just from now to now. I also know that they had bad, not strong enough recoil springs put in them so I know I need to order a new 16-22 lb one, as well as a new recoil buffer. Should I really avoid shooting that ammo?
6 AnswersHunting1 decade agoFor a shotgun, how much rust is unsafe in/on a barrel?
I have these shotgun barrels, seven of them, 2 double and 5 single all in 20 gauge, some have rust on them, none of them have it on the inside. Their rust degree various, some even have none, I believe all of them are safe to use to shoot, but how much rust on a barrel makes it unsafe? They aren't coated with rust just have some spots. So how much rust does it take for a gun barrel to become unsafe?
9 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhat type of welding is used on guns?
Do they use Mig, Tig, Arc, Oxy? Any other types? Also if you were skilled enough could you use Arc to weld barrels together side by side, such as heavy, thick black powder barrels? This also covers gun smiths and ect.
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhat's the best way to increase the weight in a rifle?
You may be thinking why in the world would anyone want a heavier gun? Well, because I like them better that way. I have a cut down M.N, some of you may have seen it already. But the recoil isn't what bothers me, I put on a rubber butt plate since then and it works great, I can shoot all day now, but a light gun for me is kinda hard to aim> It just seems too light to hold and aim while standing, same thing with light caliber guns, like a .22. My BP rifles that weight plenty are just right for me, and I seem to do better with those. but how can I make my gun heavier?
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhy did octagon barrels die out?
I know they were used for black powder guns a lot, but what really make them die for modern guns? Weight? How they were made? Strength of how much they could hold not enough for modern rounds? Cost? What was the reason?
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhat's there more ammo of, .45 ACP, .40 S&W or 9mm out there?
What is there more ammo of these three calibers in the U.S and world wide? I would think .45 and 9mm would be, but also out of those two which one is there more of. In both U.S and W.W. And in the case of SHTF, and no I'm not one of those people who plan for it every day. What ammo will there be the most of?
11 AnswersHunting1 decade agoPaper patch vs Lube, Black powder.?
Is paper patching a fair replacement for lube in a black powder rifle for conicals? Would paper patching reduce leading in s rifled barrel? 1 in 48 twist, or would lube work better, or can I do both, say paper patch my bullet and cover it with a lube, like bore butter or Crisco? Would that be even better? I have a 3 groove bullet that I would be using this on.
