Lets say you're gonna remove the whole complete differential housing with axle tubes and all from a wrecked vehicle to install in a 91 Mustang GT.What kind of checks could you do to the housing before buying it?If you pulled the differential cover off,what do I need to look for??If I spin the wheels and don't hear any roaring noises,is that a sign that the bearings are in good shape??Give me the overall list of things I should check or be looking for.I already know that if a bunch of metal flakes or pieces of metal is in the gear oil or sitting on the bottom of the differential case,skip that differential and move on to the next one for inspection.Thanks for the help.BTW-the differential is being installed in a 91 Mustang GT with a 347 stroker.I'm replacing it because the previous owner done something to cause both axle tubes to be bent.I would rather install a used differential than try to repair an issue like this.The tubes are also twisted so I'm assuming this car was raced a lot.The previous owner had battle boxes welded to the car where the upper control arms attach to.This area normally cracks so I guess the battle boxes no longer get damaged due to their strength,but it has caused the axle tubes to take all the abuse now.

Im gonna assume the answer to this question is probably a "No",but I'm gonna ask anyway,out of curiosity.The companies such as Boeing or whoever designs and builds their engines need to come up with a part that protects the front/inlet portion of the jet engine fins or impellers that draw in air for combustion.Why can't a titanium screen be built that bolts to the front side of engine,so it will prevent bird strikes from bringing the plane down.Would a screen block airflow to the point where it would negatively affect or limit flow or cause turbulence??It seems like a simple remedy,but I'm sure there's a really good reason why it isn't done.Ok all the airplane experts,what's the scoop??

I'm very well schooled on automobile and motorcycle engines and how their fuel systems work.I was also a member of the submarine force and know the mechanics of it operation.I have always wondered though,how does a F18 or any other fighter jets engine continue to function when they begin doing upside rolls??How does the fuel pump maintain operation when turned upside down.??A automobile fuel pump wouldn't work upside down

So I'm getting ready in a few days for a DOT physical.Anyone who holds a CDL license is required to take a physical yearly in order to obtain a medical card and if you don't keep this card current and up to date,the state pulls your cdl license and turns it into a regular class D license.The last time I got my card,I was told my blood pressure was high and if it were high again upon my next visit,I will only receive a 3 month medical card instead of a 1 year card.Are there any tricks that I can use which will bring my blood pressure down to normal levels,at least temporarily??My levels were around 123 over 85.If I don't get it low enough,Il have to go every 3 months to renew card.This sucks too because its between $40-$85 for the physical and I will have to pay this fee 4 times a year unless I can start taking medication to help lower it.Would taking blood pressure meds for a few days before test help at all or do I have to take it long term before it would help???Thanks

So I just watched Titanic for probably the 20th time.Is it just me or was this the closest thing to really bein there on the ship,as far as realistic looking goes?James Cameron did have the ship built to the exact dimensions of Titanic.The amount of water it must have taken for the sinking scenes.All of the falling of people scenes.Movie is getting old now but I still think it was one hell of a production.

It has been between 3-5° for several days now in Tn.I allow my neighbors horse onto my property anytime she wants to wander over here for extra room and extra grass to eat.I've looked outside this week wondering. if she's cold or not.So what's the verdict??Is she??Is she not??Cold

Basically what I'm getting at is this::we open up the front door and let our house dogs go outside for bathroom breaks.We also do the same thing for house cats.If the cats go wandering off outta sight,we go about our business,assuming the cats will return.However,when we let our dogs out the door,we always seem to keep a somewhat close eye on them until they're back inside.I'm not talkin about a vicious dog that might bite somebody either.I'm talkin about your regular dog.Sometimes we try to rush them to get em to come back inside as soon as we can.Callin their name over and over to get their attention.I know cat owners love their cats just as much as us dog owners do,but what do you think

My moms van has just begun making those squeaky front end noises and you can feel the front,when you hit bumps or dips in the road,really bouncing 2-3 times so I know the struts are shot.I've changed struts many times before,but I've never dealt with this type of strut/spring setup.The spring sits on top of the strut.There are 3 nuts on top of the strut tower then it looks like there might be a large nut on the strut rod.Do I just remove the 3 smaller nuts and then remove any bolts or nuts attaching the strut to the spindle?After I remove those nuts and bolts,does the strut and spring

come out in one assembly?Or do I have to install a spring compressor in order to seperate the spring from the strut?Thanks for the help.I'm very experienced at mechanics,but I haven't been given the chance to work on this type of strut/spring assembly yet so just lookin for some pointers

I know struts are always installed on the front and shocks on the rear.I know a strut is a lot stronger made than a shock because. the front end of a car has a lot more weight and stress put on it than the rear does.Other than the reasons I listed,what really is the main difference between the two?

I've Got A 91 Mustang GT With 3:73 Gears In The Rear End.I've Noticed Its Been Leaking A Little Bit Of Gear Oil Here Recently So Its Time To Replace The Pinion Seal.I Always Do My Own Mechanical Work Including Motor Rebuilds,Suspension Work,Etc.However,The Rear End Gears Is Something I've Never Messed With So Its Safer To Just Pay Somebody To Get It Done.Does Anybody Have A Ballpark Figure In Their Head On What A Job Like This Costs To Have Done???I Don't Know If The State I Reside In Makes Any Difference Towards Prices Or Not,But I Live In Tn.Just In Case.Thanks For Any Advice You Can Offer
