  • Computer won't let me use Python IDLE 3.4... Keeps reverting back to/installing 2.7.9?

I'm trying to teach myself Python from a book that I bought. The book teaches in Python 3, but I accidently downloaded and installed Python 2.7.9 on my computer. I deleted the Python 2 files after mistakenly downloading them and then went back and downloaded Python 3.4, however when I tried installing IDLE after that my computer kept only installing IDLE 2.7.9 and wouldn't let me install IDLE 3.4. As a result, I can only write, save, and open files using Python 2 even though I need to use Python 3. The main problem is that there are a few discrepencies between python 2 and 3 (particularly between input() and raw_input() functions) that make it very hard to learn with the wrong version running on my computer.

Are there any work arounds here? How can I get my computer running the 3.4 version of IDLE? Maybe I didn't uninstall 2.7.9 properly so it keeps bringing it back?

***Important to note that when I try to run the python programs that I've written they don't work because I'm writing in Python 3 and it seems like the computer is reading in Python 2, even outside of IDLE***

HELPPPP :( I just want to code...

  • Recommendation Letter?

I'm applying to college this year and I've asked my history teacher from last year to write me a recommendation letter. He knows me very well (I even play in his band) and I'm sure he'll write me an excellent letter.

The only problem is he sucks with names. He called me the wrong name multiple times today and I gave up on trying to correct him and just started responding to the wrong name. Now I'm terrified that he's going to write the wrong name in my recommendation letter which would destroy my application!!!! (if you're wondering, I don't get to read the letter before he sends it). wI'm applying to college this year and I've asked my history teacher from last year to write me a recommendation letter. • FAA knowledge tests materials?

I'm going to take the knowledge test for private pilot next weekend and I was wondering what you're allowed to use. I'm assuming you're supposed to bring pencil/paper to do some of the work but I would like to bring my calculator and flight computer as well. I have a TI-84 silver addition calculator with no stored programs or any memory on it besides what comes with it when you buy it (which are mostly just trial apps and things like a sig fig calculator). Will they let me use it? Also I have a E6B manual flight computer as well as a CX-2 electronic flight computer - it too has no data/memory. Will they let me use either or both of these? Finally, will I need to bring a plotter or anything? I prepared for the test by using the gleim online course and all of the charts, graphs, etc. were online but I preferred to print them out to use them... so for the FAA's test are the supplements online or do they give you hard copies? Also if they are online do they give you a "virtual plotter" to measure distance/angles on the screen?

  • James Roosevelt Daguerreotype Value?

My dad has a Daguerreotype of the great grandfather of Franklin Roosevelt, James Roosevelt. It is the only one in existence. James is also distantly related to three other presidents - Theodore Roosevelt, Zachary Taylor, and Martin Van Buren. The Daguerreotype was taken in 1840, 7 years before James's death (he lived 1760-1840). The Daguerreotype also has a handwritten note from James Roosevelt Jr., son of FDR and United States Congressman himself.

We have no intention of selling it but how much do you think it would be worth? I would say the condition is fairly good and it is about 4.5 X 3.75 inches.

Here's a photo of the inside (it's sort of formed like a one page book with cardboard like boarders/covers). The spots you see on the inside are just from the reflections of the many mirrors, there aren't actually many spots:

    <embed src="https://www.box.com/embed/1vmt2k91gl2ct3t.swf%22 width="466" height="400" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always">

And if you're curious, here's a link to James Roosevelt's wikipedia page (notice the lack of a picture):

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Roosevelt_(1760...

    So again, approximate value? Thanks!

  • Why do older people always think they're "Older and Wiser"?

I know everyone's going to probably call me a dumb arrogant *** but for real... just because people have lived longer doesn't make them wiser. I feel like people act like they are entitled to wisdom just because they've lived a long time when the way I see it is that wisdom must be earned, and yes, maybe you must be old to be wise, but that doesn't mean all old people are wise... but nearly all claim that they are and consider teenagers (which I'm not ashamed to say I am one) arrogant and narcissistic douc**s

  • Getting Checked Out After Private Pilot?

Ok so I'm about to get my private pilot's license. I've been training in cessna 150's/152's mainly but once I get my license I want to get checked out to fly at least 172's for multiple reasons - Lots of people want to fly with me and a few people in my family are either too big to fit comfortably in a 152 or will put the load over the max gross and I don't feel comfortable flying at that point.

    So my questions are:

    1) what is the process of getting checked out for a 172 after I get certificated to fly a 152? Do I have to do a whole nother practical test and take more lessons?

    2) Also, if I take my flight test in a 152 am I then certificated to fly 150's as well or do I have to get checked out in one of those as well?

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No one here knows what philosophy is?

I find it hilarious that everyone who tries to answer anything on this forum has obviously never read any philosophy and probably doesn't even know what it entails in the least bit. Just read a question asking if God exists and lol'd at the number of people who tried to give bull**** proofs that were completely logically unsound hahaha.

I guess my main point is read some philosophy people (that is if you aren't too dumb to understand as I will assume a lot of you are). But anyways.... honestly almost everyone here sounds completely retarded because they think they're being philosophical and **** but sound like dumb fcks.

Some advise: READ SOME PLATO, AQUINAS, DESCARTES, NEWTON, LEIBNIZ HUME, BERKELEY, KANT, SARTRE, SMART, MILL etc. and then start commenting here

  • Flying Through Class B and C VFR?

So I'm about to go on my 2nd cross country with my instructor and our route takes us through class B and C airspace. It was my understanding that if you're taking to the right ATC (in this case norcal app/dep) you're usually cleared through said airspaces and can continue on your own navigation until told otherwise. After planning our flight and sending it to my instructor, he told me that it was best to plan to avoid some airspace since ATC will not want us in those areas. So my questions are:

    1. first of all if you are talking to the right people will they usually clear you through airspace and if so will they clear you through all of it or just portions... how does this work?

    2. When planning a flight how do you know what areas to purposefully avoid b/c atc wont want you there?

    3. If you are cleared through and end up in an area that atc doesnt want you what happens? what do they tell you to get you out? do you get in trouble?

    Thx!!

and btw we're still planning on flying through the class b and c but the route is just a little different.

  • Flirting and Dancing With A Girl Who Has A Boyfriend?

Over the weekend i was at a multi-school conference and i met a girl there. She mentioned she had a boyfriend just casually when i first met her but then for the rest of the weekend we were talking a lot and even flirting. There was a dance too and she asked me for my number there and kept asking me to dance. Eventually we did - grinded and she seemed to like - and i had a lotta fun but now i feel bad...

I don't know why she was flirting and dancing with me if she had a boyfriend. She doesn't seem like the type of person who would cheat on anyone or do anything close. It says on her facebook " in a relationship" but doesn't say with who and i couldn't find any pictures on her facebook of her with any guys (even tho she had hundreds of pictures)...

Do you think she actually has a boyfriend or could this just be idk like a thing she's doing to try to make me jealous or something... do girls do things like that? Also if she does have a boyfriend I feel really bad and don't want to get in the middle of that or cause any problems, but i still sorta like her. What to do??!!

    Thanks!!

-btw i'll see her again at future conferences so I cant really just forget about her. and also should i keep texting her or leave her alone?

  • Too nervous to talk to her?

Im a junior in high school and I really like this girl. She's just perfect and when I'm not with her I can't stop thinking about her. All day at school I hope I'll see her in the halls or something just so I can say hi. The problem is I feel like she's out of my league. She hangs out with all the cool kids and goes to their parties and stuff and I'm definitely not part of that group.

She started saying hi to me in the halls randomly a couple weeks ago and we've been chatting a little, but I can't tell if she's just being friendly or likes me. My biggest problem is that she almost always starts the conversations because I'm too nervous to talk to her a lot of the time. I don't want to ruin just being friends by showing that I'm in to her if she's not into me. On top of that I guess I'm just scared of finding out she doesn't like me - if thats the case. She's really popular and talks to lots of guys so I'm not sure what to think.

So I guess my question would be how can I approach her just to talk more often and how can I find out if she likes me?? Also, I don't want her to feel like I'm some creepy kid who's not as cool as her or something that's obsessing over her.

    Thanks!!

  • Were the colonists being rational when the decided to break away from England?

Ok, I know this probably sounds "unamerican" but we are currently learning about the events leading up to the revolution in APUSH and I feel like the colonists were being self centered, greedy, and irrational. I mean the whole reason they were mad was because of all the taxes. But the taxes were put in place to pay for a war that protected THEM and even still the English people had more taxes than they did.

On top of that they were all mad because a lot of them were in debt but the only reason they were in debt is because they lived beyond their means when Pitt gave out refunds to soldiers in the seven yrs war and they were to greedy to adjust their life styles back to those of normal ppl after the war.

I mean can you really blame England?

Even if they had representation in Parliament what would that have done? They would have been out voted on everything and the same taxes would have been there.

Seriously, colonists were idiots and as unpatriotic as this sounds... we should still be part of England.

    Thoughts?

  • Left or Right Traffic After the First Landing?

Say I'm inbound for pattern work at an airport whose standard pattern is to make right traffic for 31. If the tower gives me instructions to enter left traffic ONLY BECAUSE OF THE DIRECTION I'M COMING FROM after the first touch and go do I resume the typical right traffic pattern or enter left traffic again if they haven't told me anything?

    Thanks!!

  • FSX ATC/Other Voices are Mute?

I've had FSX ( microsoft flight simulator X) for about three years now. Everything has worked great up to recently when I got a new computer and had to reinstall the game. All my saved flights and completed missions loaded onto the new computer and everything was exactly the same except for the fact that you can't hear ATC or the Copilots (copilots in missions only). I went sound settings and turned up "voice" but it didn't make a difference. Pretty much what happens is I'll be flying along with a lot of engine/background noise and suddenly all of the background noise will dim down really low and I know that either ATC is talking to me or my copilot is but I can't hear there voice. Once their done talking the background noise comes back up and I have to go look at the kneeboard or ATC window to figure out what they said. It's really a pain and no fun at all.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem??

    Thanks!

  • Questions About Soloing a 152?

I'm about to solo in a 152 and I'm currently taking a pre-solo written test given by my instructor. I Can't find all of the answers so I'm looking for help from all of you guys. Just giving the answer is fine, but if you can sight where you found it (i.e. where in the FAR/AIM, in the 152 manual, etc.) that would be really helpful as well. If you can't answer all the questions that's fine, just put what you do know. Everything is helpful:

    1. What Items must you have in your personal possession to operate an aircraft in solo flight?

    19. An aircraft may not be landed in crosswinds that exceed the maximum demonstrated crosswind component. (True of False)

    20. What are the minimums for flight visibility for student pilots for day and night operations?

21 You are on a solo cross country flight from Airport A to Airpot B. While midway you call flight service for an update on weather at Airport B (your destination). The report indicates that winds there exceed the demonstrated crosswind component of your aircraft. Winds at an airport near your current location are favorable however. May you land at this closer airport? What regulation allows or does not allow you to land here?

    25. When approaching an airport with an operating control tower, at what distance should you call the tower?

    26. When approaching an airport w/o an operating tower, at what distance should you call unicom for an airport advisory?

    27. What is the required fuel reserve for flight in an airplane under day VFR conditions?

    29. During your preflight you notice the vacuum pump is inop. Can this aircraft be operated under VFR? If so, what actions must you take before flight?

    30. (same as 29 but this time the magnetic compass has leaked fluid and is inop)

    35. AN Aircraft is flown in a turn at 60 degrees of bank without losing altitude. What is the effect on stall speed (% change)?

    40. How many fuel drains are there in a 152 and where are they located?

    48. What is the takeoff run and distance to clear a 50 foot obstacle on a takeoff from a sea level airport w/ calm winds and temp = 20* Celsius? (And how do you do this?)

    49. What are the time, fuel, and distance figures for a climb to 6500 from sea level on when the temperature at sea level is 30* Celsius?

    51. What is the rate of fuel consumption for cruise flight at 75% power?

    52. What is the maximum range of a cesssna 152 when flown at 65% power at 5500 ft on a standard day (assuming 30 minutes reserve fuel at 65% power and calm winds) (and how do you do this?)

    53. What is tha max endurance for a cessna 152 when flown at 75% power at 6500 ft on a standard day (assume 30 minutes reserve fuel at 75% power and calm winds) (and how do you do this?)

    57. What are the indications of alternator failure in a 152?

    58. What actions should be taken if alternator failure is suspected?

    61. What is the landing roll and total distance over a 50 foot obstacle for landing at an airport at sea-level on a standard day with no winds in a 152? (And how do you do this?)

I know it's a lot of questions, I feel stupid!!

    Thanks!
