  • Nurses and healthcare professionals: Which job would you take?

I currently work as an RN in a busy ER where our budget gets smaller, our supplies run out more often and job cuts/benefit cuts are happening more frequently. I do only work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week (nightshift) though and it's a field I'm comfortable in.

I got a job offer as a legal nurse consulting with physicians and lawyers about various tests, procedures etc. The pay is 10-15k more a year and it's a Monday-Friday job with the opportunity to work from home part of the week. It's more predictable and the stability is better and the benefits are better, it's just a new endeavor and one that I'll have to learn.

We would also like to start a family, which is kind of hard working nights that my husband is home and I'm not.

    What would you do?

  • Basic info about financial advisors and financial planning?

My husband and I make over 100k a year and we are 26. We probably should have started sooner but we need a financial planner I think. What are the benefits? What exactly does a financial planner do?

    How much do they cost?

    Thanks!

  • Do I have a cash bar at my wedding when everyone drinks EXCEPT the bride and grooms parents/grandparents?

The parents and grandparents are the ones chipping in, along with us to pay for the wedding. His parents/grandparents are strongly against drinking, my grandparents are against it and my parents aren't too fond of it either. My fiance and I drink socially, as well as everyone else coming to the bar...

Should we have a bar or not? Naturally the families wouldn't be expected to pay for that part of it. My fiance and I would like to have one, but we don't wanna cause drama between families, but it is our wedding and our friends.

  • I have a maid of honor/bridesmaid predicament! Advice please.?

My parents have been best friends with my best friends parents since age 12. My best friend and I have been neighbors since birth and are a month apart in age. We grew up together. They are a well-known and well-off family. She has lost a lot of weight and is very attractive (like the rest of her family) We have grown apart but still talk occasionally. She is my hairdresser. She also just got married randomly, and is expecting a baby. (The baby will be several months old by the time I'm married so pregnancy won't be a problem) I have always always planned on her being my maid of honor until we've grown apart recently and her/her family have gotten a bit snobby. I realize I don't have to choose her, but there would be a 3 way tie for my second option. I am concerned that her snobbiness would interfere, as I am a really laid back person. What would you do? What's your advice?

  • What makes up a good health insurance policy?

I need a short-term health insurance policy (6 months). I have no idea what all the terms mean though. Basically I want to be able to visit my doctor for colds/general complaints if needed for little to no money other than a copay, and I want coverage if I have to stay in the hospital in case of emergency. What is a deducitble/what is a GOOD deductible? What do all the numbers mean? The insurance I have now through my job is awesome and pretty much pays for everything, but it's through my job at a hospital so I won't find private insurance as cheap I'm sure. I'm a part time nurse and a full-time student so nothing to outrageously priced.

    Thanks.

  • If I enter into a rent-to-own/land contract, what is the responsibilities of the owners?

Do the owners fix any problems that come up, do they do the lawn maintenance, do they treat the property as though they own it and I am renting it from them even though I am renting-to-own? Please elaborate. Thanks!

  • Will my tuition be covered 100%?

I just got accepted into a nursing program and the tuition is approx. 7500/semester. I was approved for $5500 PELL grant, and I have been told by several unreliable people that my tuition will be covered by loans that I will take out and pay interest on. Knowing that I will pay back loans/interest, am I guaranteed to get my tuition paid for through the next 5 semesters assuming I meet the grade requirements, etc? I know nothing about this process so please help!

  • First time using 1040 ES, several questions....problem is I am employed other places who will use W2!?

I am working PT for a company that I will use a 1099 for so I will need to fill out a 1040 ES and pay estimated taxes...I think. I will make approximately 7000 this year through my independent company and approximately 20k through my other jobs that use W2s. I don't know how to estimate my tax payment or if I even need to. Do I include ALL of my income? Or JUST the income I am going to use for the 1040 ES?

I am a nurse that works for a company that I am an independent contract for so I use the 1099 for taxes. I have to pay quarterly taxes but I am unsure what forms to fill out, how much I should pay, etc. Is there some type of estimator somewhere? I live in the state of Ohio. ANY information would be good, I am new to this! Thanks.

  • I am calculating a 50/30/20 budget and 50% is needs, 30% is wants. What is considered a need?

Do needs include toiletries, makeup, needed clothing, and bills? All the essentials of living? Or is make-up, etc. a "want"?

  • Amending my taxes to add the school tuition paid out of pocket. Will I get any more money back?

I am doing a 1040x to add the 10k in school tuition my parents paid for me this year. The accountant said *I* claim it because I am an independent. I only made 9k because I rarely worked because of school. Is it even worth filing? Will I get anymore money back? Do I only get back the tax money I paid to my work to compensate for school tuition? How does this work?

    Thanks.

  • I have an EFC of 94. How much of my tuition can I expect to get paid?

How much of my tuition will get paid with an EFC of 94? Is that 94 dollars? Or just a code? I also have friends that have children that have gotten extra money to put towards bills, etc. while in school. I do not have any dependents, so will I also get money for bills? Or no?

  • Best thing to "throw" at a wedding?

Is there some kind of rule as to what should be thrown when the bride and groom walk out of the church? I've heard of rice, birdseed and blowing bubbles. It will be a fall wedding, so what is appropriate? Are there any other options other than throwing things?

  • Wedding on Friday evening, reception on Saturday evening?

My fiance' and I want our wedding to be on the same date we started dating. The only problem is, because of leap year, it falls on either a Friday or a Sunday.

What do you think of having the wedding on a Friday evening around 730 or 8, and then having the reception the next night around 6 or 7? Would 2 seperate days be okay? What are the pro's and cons of this?

  • Creative, thoughtful birthday gift for a sports-loving, computer guy?

I am normally really creative with gifts but I'm having trouble thinking of a birthday gift. He has degrees in web-designing stuff and likes video games and techy stuff. He also likes sports. I really don't want to just buy him a video game, or a gift card. I considered buying tickets to a football game but his favorite team isn't anywhere near this state. Help!
