  • What does an up-arrow mean in math when it's NOT an exponent?

In my standardized testing book from kaplan I saw this expression . . .

    x (up arrow) 0

It was NOT a carat like you use for exponents and i know that is not what it means. it's like a real arrow -------> except UP. What does it mean?

    Thanks,

    S

  • How can I get my dog to walk without a leash?

I have a 2yr old cockapoo who is very smart. He has learned to walk with me with his leash dragging on the ground but he runs away if we unclip his leash. We don't have a fenced-in yard but we want to take him for walks unleashed, how can we train him to walk without a leash? Our resources are a long tie-out (20ft lead) and a small fenced in garden where he can run. Help please!

  • This has been the most boring summer EVER . . .?

. . . and it will continue to be so if I don't find something to do. Anything. I really don't care. I like animals (already volunteered at the animal shelter, going to obedience school with my dog), writing, cooking, arts and crafts, and being outdoors and I am a teen living in MA. I have a month to go until school starts so a very long-term DIY 'project' would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • How do I maintain my curls after a shower?

I have naturally thick, curly/wavy hair. I like my ringlet curls after I shower, and they do stay in ringlets . . . at lest until I brush my hair. Then, the culs pop and my curls turn into frizz. Is there any product or method I can use to maintain my ringlet curls?

Also, can you recommend a cute haircut for my type of hair? Thanks!

  • I am a 7th grader who LOVES horses?

I am in 7th grade and do not ride at present, but I LOVE horses and I *think* my mom is leaning towards letting me take riding lessons.

First off, am I too old to start riding?

The other thing is, I want to know how to go about this properly. My mom suggested that I go to a horse camp over the summer to start riding and then see where it takes us. I am more inclined to taking lessons first before going to a horse camp for the summer.

Another thing - do you think I should ride English style or Western?

And finally, what is your opinion of private vs. group lessons. People who have taken both, please elaborate.

    Thanks!

  • What are some fun things to do in NYC?

My mom and I are going to NYC tomorrow, and staying there overnight at my cousin's place. My mom and I are going to spend the day out on the town, are there any extra extra fun places you suggest we go? I already thought of Rockefeller Center for skating, anywhere better we can go? And what about food? We will eat anything and "bonus points" if you include all these things :

    Restaurants

    Fun things to do

    and easy access.

Remember the fun has to last a day!

    Thanks!

  • What pet should I get?

I have a 10-gallon aquarium that used to house my dwarf hamster, Snowbelle (RIP). Now that she is gone, I am hoping to get a new pet for Christmas. I want to know if there is another pet (besides a hamster) that I could get, that is more social (Snowbelle bit a lot) than a ham, and NOT a gerbil. Something that would fit in a ten-gallon tank if possible and would not completely freak my 'rents out, that doesn't need TOO too much care, and something that is cute and interesting, if possible. I don't mind reptiles, but my mom does, so please no reptiles or amphibians. =)

    Thanks

  • When did people start to blow their noses?

I have a cold and have mucus issues. After sniffling for the 10,000th time, my dad got fed up with me. So I told him that if Neanderthals didn't blow their noses, why should I? That got us thinking : when did people really start to blow their noses?
