  • Is $200 a lot to spend on a dress?

I know this is so silly, but I've found this dress that I absolutely love. The brand is Myne (You can find the brand at online boutiques and Nordstrom). I've wanted the dress for a couple of years, and I've found it on sale online for $200 (It was originally $275). I am graduated from college and I work in an engineering field at a company in Silicon Valley, so it's not like I'm 16 expecting my parents to pay for it, haha. I'm always so frugal and shop at places like TJ Maxx and Ross, so I'm a bit apprehensive to make this purchase. The dress is 100% silk, so I feel like the price is actually a good value for the product, and I can't find a less expensive alternative. The dress is also an "every-day dress", so I can wear it often to work, around the town, out at night, etc. Does $200 seem too much?

  • Accidently Hit A Parked Car and Didn't Realize it Until Later?

    Hello,

Earlier today I was at Walmart and Safeway for Black Friday. I noticed when I got home that there's a scratch on my car. I am thinking that I hit another car backing out, because in the Wal-Mart parking lot, there were tons of people and kids screaming and yelling outside. It was also pitch black outside. I don't want to be one of those people that hits a car and doesn't leave a note/report it, because I wouldn't want that to happen to me. I tried calling Wal-Mart, and nobody answered the phone-I guess I expected this because it's black friday. I know this sounds silly, but I called the non-emergency police line to report the incident and provide any information. I am very stressed that I have caused damage to someone else's vehicle, even though I'm not sure if there even was damaged that occurred. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Tooth975 open bite/tmj question, please help!?

    Tooth975,

I have been reading through your answers to people's questions regarding TMJ and other bite problems, and you are more helpful than any orthodontist I have met. I originally had braces from ages 12-15 to straighten my teeth and close my open bite/fix my cross bite. I developed TMJ during treatment and my orthodontist basically straightened out my teeth, but didn't move my bite any more because he was scared of making it worse. I am now seeking treatment for TMJ, open bite, crossbite, and a double bite (which I developed during ortho treatment). During my first otho treatment, I had an expander, braces, and elastics...no functional appliances. I've gone on four consultations for treatment the past month (I'm 21 now, so it's been a few years since braces the first time in case you were wondering). The diagnoses from the last doc is as follows:

There is enough space for all front and lower teeth

The center of the upper two front teeth corresponds with the center of the face.

The center of the lower two front teeth is 1mm to the left of the center of the face.

The front teeth do not overlap, even with the back teeth closed together.

The upper front teeth are moderately too far ahead of the lower.

The upper back teeth are inside the lower back teeth on the left.

    Skeletal Evaluation:

The upper jaw is in a good position

The lower jaw appears underdeveloped and set back from ideal

The lips are together at rest

The muscles over the chin appear normal.

*Also I mentioned the double bite...basically my lower jaw sits too far back, but I push it forward because it's more comfortable.

This ortho recommended jaw surgery to move the lower jaw forward and close the open bite, which I'm not sure if I need or not. Before surgery and braces, she wanted me to get my TMJ stuff treated...however, I'm hesitant because I'm afraid that I will have my TMJ treated and she will mess it up again with the braces because she wants to open my bite even more for surgery. She said that surgery is the only way to achieve a permanent result, and my bite would most likely re-open if I didn't do surgery.

The other orthodontist wanted me to extract teeth, do braces, elastics/possibly TADS, which I declined and moved on from him because I know extracting teeth is no good.

The other ortho didn't seem to look at my jaw...He didn't mention functional appliances, he just said that he would do braces and TADS.

The last ortho I liked, but he ended up dying in March...He wanted me to do a splint for TMJ, braces, and myofunctional therapy. I have spoken with a couple of the other orthodontists (including my old one) and they said that it's "Hokus Pokus" and not science based. This doc made me see an ENT because he said that mouth breathing and nasal obstruction can be a main cause of a tongue thrust...the ENT found nothing. The first ortho said that my open bite is causing the tongue thrust, and that it's kind of a "chicken or the egg" scenario and that uneven jaws can also cause nasal problems. Every dentist has commented on how small my mouth is, so I'm not sure if she's right.

I have looked on iaortho.org, and there are no orthos in my town, so I will be traveling out of town...I just wanted to know if you could possibly give me some ideal treatment options to discuss when I go to my other consultations? I don't really want surgery, but if it's the only option I am willing to do it. I am going to see an oral surgeon soon anyways (the wisdom teeth are ready to come out), so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask too. Ideally, I would like to have a functional appliance to move my lower jaw forward and fix the tmj, and braces and tads to intrude my molars (one ortho said they were over erupted) to close the bite. I'm not sure if it's possible to do a functional appliance for tmj/moving the lower jaw forward while wearing braces on the top.

I will see if I can post the pictures of my teeth that the ortho took.

Thank you so so much for reading this and helping me, I greatly appreciate it. Also, if you know of a good ortho in Arizona, I'd love for a recommendation!

  • Finance Homework Question!?

You are evaluating the purchase of Holdings, Inc common stock that just paid a dividend of $1.80. You plan to hold the stock for three years and then sell it. You expect the price of the company’s stock to rise to $51.50 at the end of your three year holding period. You estimate that a required rate of return of 17.5% will be adequate compensation for this investment. Calculate the present value of the expected future stock price. Round to the nearest $.25.

    Thank you so much!

  • Should I call CPS on this woman?

One of my facebook friends who I've gone to school with since elementary school has a baby and she smokes pot. She is 20 years old and shouldn't be parenting. She is constantly writing PUBLICLY on her facebook about how she smokes pot all the time and the people that don't are a bunch of stuck up c*nts (nice language for a mother, I know). There is one picture on her facebook of her getting high and I'm not positive, but it looks like the child is in the background. I have a mutual friend at college that claims that the girl smokes pot in front of her child. I'm extremely concerned for the child...This girl always talks about getting high several times a week on facebook, and she also airs out her business about her fighting with her husband and all of their craziness. Should I call CPS? Before anybody says that I'm "destroying her family," I ask that you realize that CPS is not meant to be punitive; it is meant to help families. They do not just automatically take your child away for no reason. I kind of feel guilty for not doing anything, but I'm not sure it's my place/the severity of the problem. Thank you in advance!

  • Is a housewife considered a job?

In my honest opinion, I don't see it as a job. NOTE: I am NOT talking about women with small children. I completely understand staying at home while your children are too young for school. I'm talking about the women that choose to stay at home after their kids are in school full time or after their kids go off to college. I was just wondering what other people's input was. My best friend and I are about to graduate college and go to medical school, and her mom still considers herself a "Housewife" even though her only child is about to graduate from a university and lives by herself. I have actually met quite a few women that are like this where I live (think the Real Housewives of whatever city). I just think it's ridiculous that women find this acceptable. Why not go to work and make a financial contribution and a contribution to society? Working is an opportunity. There are women that are so oppressed in countries like India that are born into the caste system and have to shovel human feces for a living, yet many women here in the US want to sit around all day.

To women that complain that cooking and cleaning is considered a job: Guess what?! Everyone buys groceries and cooks because everyone has to eat! Most people also clean up too! I'm in college full time, I run a business, I'm involved at my university, and I still manage to cook and clean. I just don't get it I guess. Any thoughts?

  • Would you buy organic cosmetics if they worked well?

I was wondering if you guys would be interested in buying organic cosmetics. I'm in the process of creating my own line, and wanted the public's opinion. Would you be inclined to purchase organic cosmetics over non-organic cosmetics? Why or why not? I am trying to make them as high-end as possible...I want them to be comparable to Urban Decay or Mac. Thanks!

  • Crazy stepmother drama, help! Is she mentally ill?

I know I've posted about my stepmother before, but I'm so lost and confused on what to do. A couple of days ago she was like, "When are you moving out?" When I asked why she said, "I need to know so I can help you move." She never talks to me or acknowledges me, so I knew she was asking me to move out because she's a spiteful person. Yesterday, she asked me again. She started saying how she wants me to move out because "I don't serve the Lord." I'm like, "What are you talking about. I'm in college full time, I get A's in school, I don't do drugs, I go to church, I practice abstinence, etc." She's like, "There's no fruit. If you really loved the Lord you would be discussing him with your friends, you would be starting Bible studies at school, and walking through your dorm room and taking control in Jesus name and praying throughout the halls and at peoples doors." She's insane, I know. She continued on to tell me that she cringes when she sees my car in the drive way, she purposely stays away from home because I'm there, I suck the life out of her, and my presence irritates her because it's this negative ora. I'm like, "What in the world are you talking about? You mope around the house all the time and act miserable, so I try to give you space." She said that the Lord was telling her that she can't have me in the house to protect her family. She won't let me around her children because she's afraid that I will say something bad about her to them, when that's never happened. It makes me so angry because she acts like she's this righteous person who is very obsessed with church, but then she tells me that she can't stand me. I think she's intimidated by strong successful women, because she's never been one. She was angry because my aunt and uncle came into town this weekend and they were asking me about what my major in college is and what I plan I doing when I graduate. I was like, "Why is that a bad thing?" She didn't really have a response, but she complained saying that I'm concerned about money and my career. Nobody even brought up the word money, that just asked me what I want to do when I graduate. Do you think I should tell my father about the conversation? Also, do you think that this could possibly be a mental illness. She always says things like, "The Lord told me" or "The Lord revealed to me." and then follows it up with something crazy.

  • TMJ/ Open bite question and question about functional orthodontics!?

What would be the best method for correction of my TMJ problem and my open bite? I have already had braces and I do not want to go through that again. During my orthodontic treatment my tmj developed, so we did not use elastics or do anything to change my bite. I was researching and found something called a temporary anchorage device that can be used to correct open bites. I have had tmj and no pain for seven years. I went to see a different orthodontist who thinks I may have a tongue thrust, although we are not positive. He wants me to go to the ENT to make sure that my tonsils/adenoids/nose are not causing swallowing problems. I have asked my old orthodontist about my tonsils/adenoids potentially causing the open bite and he said that it's "hokus pokus." Anyways, the other orthodontist then wants me to wear a splint, go to myofunctional therapy, and do braces all over again. This seems very overwhelming. Is there a quicker/better way to achieve results?

  • Should I get a degree in Marketing?

I'm currently studying Marketing and Pre-Med. I am very interested in starting my own cosmetics line that is sustainable and promotes the use of organic ingredients. I am majoring in Marketing but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. My other choice would be supply chain management (I'm not super interested in it, but I think it leads to better jobs). Would I be able to find a decent paying job after college with a Marketing Degree?
