Help finding a specific quote in the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton?
I need the quote from the book where Ponyboy states that it was 8 months before that his parents died, and I'm having a hard time pinpointing where exactly that quote is. I havent read this book in a while and I really need it. Any help, even a reference to the general area in the book where it might be, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much xx
1 AnswerBooks & Authors6 years agowould the sexuality of a character influence whether you'd read a book?
Would the sexuality of the main character (or any character) in a book influence whether you would read it or not? Or if the main relationship in the book was not a straight one (gay, lesbian, etc.)? Why or why not?
This is just something I've been curious about for a while, and I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts and opinions. Thanks!
18 AnswersBooks & Authors6 years agolooking for book suggestions?
Ok, so lately I've been running pitifully low on books to read and I'm in desperate need of some good suggestions.
To give you an idea, I'm really into YA novels. Some of my favourites are:
-the mortal instruments by Cassandra Clare
-the infernal devices by Cassandra Clare
-divergent by veronica Roth
-fangirl by rainbow Rowell
-the maze runner by James dashner
-harry potter by j.k. Rowling
-looking for Alaska by john green
-the fault in our stars by john green
Yeah, so as you can see I've read a lot of the popular ones and I'm not exactly sure where to start when looking for new ones, so any suggestions would be amazing. Thank you!
3 AnswersBooks & Authors6 years agoWhat do you think makes a believable character? How can you have your characters 'grow' in a story?
I was really having trouble wording this first question. I was going to say "what do you think makes a good character" but thats not exactly what i mean. I guess what I'm asking is what makes a character seem real, in your opinion? Whether they're "good or bad" in personality, what do you think makes them seem / r e a l / or believable? Oh and not too cliche.
Now the second question. I know what it means for a character to 'grow', but I'm just not sure how to show visible growth in my character's personality throughout the story...
(and please no rude or sarcastic comments because honestly it's really annoying and I couldn't care less about your bitterness toward me or how stupid you think my question is thanks)
Anyway, not sure if that made sense but any help would be greatly appreciated thank you :)

3 AnswersLyrics7 years agoWhich do you prefer: Looking for Alaska or The Fault in Our Stars? (please answer only if you've read both)?
Ever since the TFIOS movie came out I've been seeing a lot more debate about which John Green books were better, and its was mainly between these two. I personally have my own opinion on which is better, but I just wanted to see what others thought on here :)
So, out of the two, which one did you like better? Why?
Like I said, please answer if you've read both. Thanks xx
1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoWhich do you prefer: books that alternate between POVs or stick to just one?
I understand that it depends on the story line and all that, I know that's important too, but based on your experience, do you prefer stories that switch up point of views between the characters or just stick to one point of view?
5 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoWhat, in your opinion, makes a good male and/or female character?
I was just curious as to what other people thought about what makes a character "strong", in the sense of personality, not strength.
I've realized since i've been writing that I'm not that good at classifying this stuff, to be honest, and getting some elses opinion seems like a good idea.
I'm not sure if there's really a difference in gender on what makes a strong character, so if you want to separate them or just give an idea in general, any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)
(not sure if any of that made sense but)
8 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoLooking for books similar to these.....?
I'm currently finishing up the last book on my reading list, therefore I need more books to add to it. So right now I'm looking for books similar to:
-The Perks of Being A Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky)
-The Fault In Our Stars (John Green)
and/or
-Thirteen Reason Why (Jay Asher)
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much :)
4 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoI'm doing an experiment, questions inside. Please answer?
Ok so i'm just doing a little experiment thingy so if you guys wouldn't mind answering some questions for me please?
1. What is your favorite genre? What do you read the most?
2. Do you prefer the main character to be male or female?
3. From what ages do you prefer characters in the books you read to be?
4. How old are you?
5. How often do you read?
6. How long are the books you usually tend to read (page wise maybe idk)
any help would be appreciated because I've been trying to write but have been kind of indecisive about some things so thank you :) xx
5 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoHow many minor characters/side characters (whatever you call them) is it a good idea to have?
Well, in the story I'm writing, I have two main characters. But I wanted to add some of their friends in there so the story wouldn't get boring, you know? So then I ended up coming up with these identities for these other characters that are important but at the same time really aren't, if that makes sense. There are 6 of them and I feel like maybe that's too much? What do you think?
Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you xx
3 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoDo you listen to music when you write? If so, what kind? What songs?
I was really just curious if anyone else listens to music while they write :) particularly, I try, but it somewhat distracts me so I usually listen to it before and after a writing session. What do you guys do?
thank you xx
6 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoWhat order do the Ender's game books go in?
Ok so I've read Ender's Game and I'm currently in the middle of Ender's Shadow. I was wondering what order I should read the others in? (Speaker for the dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant) I've heard that you can read them in any order really, except that you have to read Xenocide before Children of the mind. Is that true? Do you have a preferred order to read them in?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you xx
1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoIf you could spend the day with your favorite book character, who would it be and why?
I don't know, I'm just curious I guess haha.
6 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoIf you could pick casting for The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, who would u pick?
Well one of my favorite series is The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare and I've read it multiple times. I just wanted to get others opinions on how they saw the characters, or if you could pick someone to play them in the movie, who would you pick?
The characters I'm most interested in are:
-Tessa Gray
-William Herondale
-James Castairs
-Charlotte Branwell
-Henry Branwell
-The Lightwood brothers
-Cecily Herondale
if you cant think of all, even just one character would be fine or one that I might have forgotten, I'm just really curious for some reason haha thank you xx
1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoWriters: What is your writing process? How do you plan out your writing?
I write a lot, but a lot of times when I write my ideas get kind of jumbled, which makes it hard to get anything done when I have to constantly think back to make sure I've included everything and didn't forget things, if that makes sense. So my question is, how do you plan out your writing, or rather what is your writing process? How do you get your ideas flowing? Are there any certain techniques that you use that make it easier to keep onto one train of thought at a time?
If there is anything else you'd like to add that I may have forgotten it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you xx
6 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoIn your opinion, what do you think are the chances of a boy/boy novel becoming popular?
Ok well I'm writing a book where the two characters that are in a relationship are both boys rather than a boy and a girl. That's not really abnormal for me, it's what I usually write, but I know some people have a problem with it or whatever. I know there are tons that are published and all but I've never heard of one that was ""popular"" if that makes sense? But my question is, in your opinion, what do you think the success rate of a boy/boy novel, if it's written well, would be considering the controversy revolving around gay rights?
I'm still going to write it regardless, but I was just mainly curious on some people's opinions on the matter. Thank you xx
