Is it really odd to be in your 30s and never been to a gyno?
So basically, yes, I am in my 30s, and have never been to gyno. I never had a serious relationship, never been sexually active, have always had pretty regular periods without major complications, etc. I feel like I should go, just to finally go and get it over and done with (at least until the next annual visit),but am also afraid of basically being told off for not starting to see a gyno sooner. Am I the only one with this type of fear?
2 AnswersWomen's Health6 years agoHow can I safely fall in artistic gymnastics?
I'm an adult beginning gymnast, and I'm absolutely loving the sport. I'm finding the sport VERY challenging, but also rewarding to see my progress. So far, I don't have much fear with the elements that I'm working on, although they're just 1-3 level skills at this point, depending on apparatus I'm using. However, knowing that gymnasts take falls, what are some general tips from falling on each of the apparatuses to lessen the chance of injury?
Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Sports6 years agoDoes anyone have problems with "Zombies! Run!" on a treadmill?
I've been using this program for my outdoor running workouts, but have recently started running indoors as the weather has gotten much colder. I tried using my "Zombies! Run!" app on the treadmill, and got "caught" during the chases yesterday as I couldn't get the treadmill to accelerate fast enough in order for me to evade them. Does anyone else have this problem with using a treadmill, and is there a way to fix it?
Thanks!
2 AnswersRunning7 years agoI'm doing my first ever 5K run/walk tomorrow. What are some good tips you have for us beginner runners?
I've been doing a C25K program on through my ipod since March, and will be doing my first ever 5K tomorrow. It's a "pi/pie" run through that's part of a food festival here in town. It's not a timed run, and there will be water/pie stops along the way. Knowing that the weather is going to be warm, I'm really not planning on having pie until the end of the race (eating, then running...ugh), making sure that I pace myself (even if I have to walk a bit), and staying hydrated as best as I can. I'm even planning on getting hit with "flying pies" at the end, because I want to celebrate finishing my first 5K.
I do plan on having a good time, but I was wondering if anyone has any other tips, or fun 'first 5K" stories that they would like to share.
Thanks!
1 AnswerRunning8 years agosit spin position question?
I'm hoping to start working on sit spins this next year or so, and am starting to practice the position off-ice. This is a really dumb question, but why do figure skaters seem to lean really far forward when they go into the sit spin position, rather than being straight up and down? Is it a strength and balance issue, or what?
2 AnswersIce Skating8 years agoDo gymansts get really dizzy from flipping around?
I may be starting gymnastics as an adult, just for fun. I also figure skate, and know that spinning initially causes a lot of dizziness, but eventually the dizziness eventually disappears or lessens over time. Is the same thing true for gymnasts? I'm just curious because of all the times they are upside-down, flipping around, and all the other mind-boggling maneuvers they do.
Thanks!
7 AnswersOther - Sports8 years agohow do you cross your feet with figure skating?
I'm an adult clockwise figure skater, and I've been working on 1/2 rotation jumps. Knowing that I will be working full rotation jumps at some point with my coach, I'm wondering how do skaters cross their feet/ankles when they are jumping. For instance, is it more of a glide of the free leg around the jumping leg, or does it come more up, over, then down, like spinning? Then, with the leg that crosses, is that angled towards whatever your landing edge is? I'm totally curious about this.
Thanks!
4 AnswersIce Skating8 years agoWhat are some good jumping/rotating exercises for figure skating?
I've been skating for 3 years and have just started working on a salchow with my coach. I'm a clockwise skater, and have been able to get about 3/4 way around, but seem to lack that extra "oompf" to get the full rotation. I know that I really need to work on this both off and on ice, but can use some tips on accomplishing this.
Thanks!
3 AnswersIce Skating8 years agoWould this work as a liquid laundry detergent?
I'm starting to run low on my current laundry detergent, and I just had the thought of re-using the soon-to-be empty bottle. I have approximately 1/2 of an 8 oz or so bottle of Dr. Bronner's left, and I was thinking of adding most of it to the bottle, and filling the remaining part of the bottle with water. The bottle itself is about 64 fluid ounces. Would this work well as a detergent, or does the soap concentration need to be stronger, considering the amount of water that the washer would be adding?
Thanks!
3 AnswersCleaning & Laundry8 years agostains from natural chapstick on microfiber/spandex skating tights?
A few weeks ago, I was doing a load of laundry, and accidentally left a tube of Burt's Bee's chapstick in the wash. It also went through the dryer, which left stains on my microfiber/spandex skating tights. I've tried rewashing them with using a stain remover, but that didn't work. What else can I try? Would dish detergent be a possibility? I'm just trying to think of everyday stuff that I have at home that could work.
Thanks!
1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry8 years agoCan someone help me choose a piece for my Freestyle 1 ice skating program?
I'm an adult skater, and my coach gave me the go-ahead to prepare for my ISI Freestyle 1 test. I'm planning on testing in December, depending on what dates would be available. My coach is letting me choose my music, and I'm stuck between two choices I've made. My piece can only be 1:30, and I'm One option is the Main Titles theme from "The Cider House." The other option is Franz Lizst's "Liebestraum."
A link to the Liszt is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6hdDOFtW64
and the link to the "Cider House" is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2H8p4uqCZ0
As a classically trained musician (flutist), I love the thought of skating to a gorgeous classical piece, but I'm also really drawn to the other one as well....help!
2 AnswersIce Skating9 years agoHow often should I have my figure skating boot laces replaced?
I keep having problems with my laces coming loose on my skating boot, which is a Jackson Classique, causing my heel to slip upwards inside. I have been putting on my boots so that my heel is at the very back of my skate. I've been pulling the laces as tight as (comfortably) possible, but I often find myself having to re-tighten/tie my laces, even after just having the skates on for a few minutes. My laces don't show signs of wear. They just keep coming loose.
That being said, how often should the laces be replaced, and is there a particular blend of materials that works really well? What else can I do to make sure that my laces stay snug?
Thanks!
1 AnswerIce Skating9 years agoIf you could do your ultimate favorite skating program, what would you do?
Okay, I know this sounds dorky, but sometimes, when a really good song comes on, I sometimes picture myself skating a routine to it. If you got to skate to your favorite song(s), what song(s) would they be, and what would you include with your program? Also, just for fun, what would your dress/costume look like?
Cheers!
5 AnswersIce Skating9 years agoIce Skaters, what songs do you like to listen to while stretching?
I'm in need of some new ideas. I'm open to a lot of types, including classical. I generally would prefer something that's upbeat to help get my body moving and stuff, but am open to some gentle, slow ones as well.
Thanks!
3 AnswersIce Skating9 years agoPaying back a friend who lent me money?
A friend of mine lent me about $600 for me to be able to attend a conference a few years ago. I gave her half of the money back, but honestly forgot to pay back the rest. She brought it to my attention tonight that I have yet to pay her the other half that I owed. I feel TERRIBLE about this, as she has been a good friend to me, and so I apologized, and told her that I would pay her back this week.
My plan is to pay her back that amount, plus about a $100 extra (for the trouble I caused), and include that payment in a card. I also plan to apologize to her in person, and explain that I totally understand why she is mad/angry at me. Considering that we have been good friends overall, my hope is that once I've paid her, things will smooth out again.
I'm considering this a major lesson learned for the both of us--don't lend money, and don't ask for money if you can't pay it back on time. All and all, do you think this is a good plan of action?
Thanks!
4 AnswersFriends9 years agoWere you ever afraid of learning layback spins?
I'm totally curious about this, as I'm beginning to work on spins (basic two foot spin right now) and very first jumps. Hopefully this fear will go away once I'm good enough to start working on it, but I have that fear in the back of my mind about falling and hitting my head on the ice with that spin.
What were some of your experiences with this move, and if you had fear about doing the spin, what did you do to overcome it?
Thanks!
5 AnswersIce Skating9 years agoHow do I "hook" my spin in figure skating?
So, I'm working a basic two foot spin in figure skating, and recently found out that I have to "hook" the spin. I know that the "hook" gives the initial "oompf" to the spin, however, I'm still struggling with actually doing it. Keep in mind that I'm a clockwise skater, so I push off onto my right outside edge before going into the spin.
Knowing that my right outside edge is my weakest edge, I've spent some time on just working basic forward edges. I would also work on that by doing my "wind up" from doing backward crossovers, pushing off from the T-position (right foot in front), and just holding that right outside edge as deep, and as long as I can.
Does anyone else have tips that I can work with until my new coach and I get together in a few weeks? If it helps any, I'm an adult skater, and skating at the ISI FS 1 level.
6 AnswersIce Skating9 years agoIs it normal to have some scabs from a bee sting?
I got stung by a yellow jacket bee (I think-the bee was pretty big and black and yellow striped), back on Friday. I was given initial first aid treatment at the pool where I got stung, but developed a large rash on my wrist, which has yet to go away. The itching had been VERY intense at times, and I admit, I did scratch it on two or three occasions as it was really deep feeling itch. I used a basking soda and water paste off and on for a few days to help with the itching, as well as taking a homeopathic treatment, Apis Mellificia to help reduce the swelling.
Since then, the swelling and itching has dramatically diminished, and the red rash is gradually fading. However, I've now noticed some slight rough feeling/scab areas. Is this a normal part of the healing process, or was it due to me scratching that area a few times? Also, does this rash indicate that I may be allergic?
Thanks!
2 AnswersFirst Aid9 years agoWhat are some questions I could ask my interview committee at the end of my Special Ed TA interview?
I've got an interview coming up, and would like to have a few questions to ask the committee. I'm interviewing to be a Special Education TA (both academic and behavioral)with our local school district. I'd like to have a list of 4-5 questions on hand, in order to encourage some conversation, as well as finding out more about the programs itself. Two of my questions are:
1. What are some positive outcomes you have noticed with your program in recent years?
2. As a whole, do you feel that the teachers have a high level of support from the school administrations, as well as parents of the students in your class? If there was any conflict about the support, how was that issue resolved?
What are some other questions would you ask? Also, if you find my questions helpful, please feel free to keep them in mind for your own upcoming interviews. :)
Thanks!
