  • Can swallowing your own blood make you sick?

I just had a pretty nasty nosebleed and, of course, some of it went down the back of my throat and ended up getting swallowed, and now my stomach is kinda burn-y upset

  • How do we tell our roommates we re moving out?

My boyfriend and I signed a lease in march with a married couple, the male roommate (let s call him A) is my boyfriend s best friend. Over the last 7 months there ve been lots of problems in the house, specifically between my boyfriend and A, as well as pet behaviour problems with my cat peeing all over A s stuff and A s dog peeing all over the house. We re not planning to cut the lease short or anything (even though just a couple months ago we really thought we were going to have to), but they sound like they re expecting us to sign another year with them. My thought was, since A is very self absorbed and will likely verbally attack my boyfriend and myself (ex. that s childish you can t afford that), that we should make it seem like us going our separate ways will benefit A more than cause problems. Does that sound like it might work? The only thing that really sucks is that their cat and my cat have become best friends, and I really enjoy living with this other girl.

  • What to do in this situation (rent/lease/ending a lease/etc...)?

My boyfriend and I live with two roommates. Things just aren't working, there's a lot of drama and stuff that was not expected at all (my boyfriend and one of the other roommates are best friends, but turns out they're not the kind of best friends that should live together). We signed our lease on march 1st.. we still have 7 months left.. that's just way too long for him to handle the drama and stuff. Realistically, the two other roommates can afford this place on their own. How do we go about getting our names off the lease? Like how much notice do we have to give, what legal action do we have to take, etc..? We live in Ontario.

  • Cat peeing/marking problem?

I live in a house with my cat, another cat, and a dog. I also live with a husband and wife, my boyfriend, and then there's me (the cat's owner, a woman). For a while my cat would pee on any clothes or fabric surface he could find, we found out he had a uti and we treated it. He stopped peeing on things for a while but now for the past month and a half he's been targeting the other guy (the husband) that lives here. He leaves his clothes on the floor and the second their bedroom door is left open and unattended, my cat goes straight for his clothes and pees all over them. Today his clothes got moved to his bed, so my cat peed on his bed!!! I've bought two extra litter boxes, the other animals are not allowed in my bedroom (only him, and sometimes the other cat but only when my cat's okay with it), and the guy he's targeting isn't really mean to him or anything. Why's he peeing on his clothes????? He doesn't pee on anything else, we can go weeks without him peeing on something as long as the other couple's bedroom door is always closed.

    Black specks on kitty's tail?

Sorry for the terrible picture, he wouldn't stop squirming. On his tail skin are these black specks, and the fur is really greasy (like... REALLY greasy) and there's loads of dandruff. He had (has?) ringworm, it's still in the house but it seems to be off him for now. The fur isn't falling out and there are no scabs or ring shapes on his tail. He doesn't seem to be scratching at his tail and I can't seem to lift the specks up off his skin. He isn't patient enough for me to check every inch of his tail but, from what I've seen so far, it starts at the base of his tail and goes 5 inches up, I'd guess his tail is 11-12 inches.

  • Is elevated heart rate a sign of early pregnancy?

I'm getting symptoms that I've only ever had when pregnant before (heartburn and hiccups) but now I'm starting to realize that my heart rate elevates after like no effort. I got undressed and jumped into bed, i could feel it beating in my chest. Run up the stairs? Cue heart beat. Yesterday I took the garbage out and there's a small hill to get back to the house and my heart was pounding. Why it's confusing me is that there's no change in my breathing at all, because I've barely made any physical effort. I'm constantly getting cramps and sharp pains in my uterus (not on my period). I cried when my roommate got something off the top shelf for me last night because it was "so nice of her". I'm on nuvaring, a little under 200lbs if that makes a difference. It just wouldn't make sense because I've barely been sexually active and I am on birth control, but I can't help but wonder with all these weird things my body is doing. Thoughts?

  • How do I get my cat to eat olive oil?

He's a little constipated but it's nothing too crazy, I just want him to be able to comfortably poop until I get paid and can take him to his vet for an xray (which will tell me that nothing's wrong but I know I should do it anyway). I added a quarter tbsp to his favourite wet food and he won't touch it. Now what do I do??

  • How do I make my back yard nicer?

So I ve rented a place, I m thinking 1-2 years max, but the back yard is an absolute disaster. We have knotweed in the garden and weeds all over the grass, and I m not even sure if it s "lawn" grass or not lawn grass. Someone already tried to suppress the knotweed about three years ago, but it s pushed through the landscaping fabric so now there s just landscaping fabric under the garden, under the grass, and under the poorly-laid patio stones and it pokes out in places, especially in the patio stones.

Today my roommate and I tried to dig up the mass amount of weeds in the garden and we put down some river stones to try to help suppress the knotweed and make it look nice at the same time, and we ve potted some flowers, but holy hell those stones are expensive! She spent $30 on what we have and it s barely enough to cover half of the garden, and it s not even a thick enough layer to keep the knotweed somewhat at bay. Do you have any suggestions for us? We have grass seed, and I have all the time in the world, but I don t have any money and she s leaving for her honeymoon in 4 days.

  • Was this cat being a jerk or...?

About a month and a half ago I moved into a house with my 5 year old, big, fluffy, white and orange male cat, and my roommates brought their 2 year old, big, fluffy, orange male cat. For the first two weeks my kitty, Darcy, hated their kitty, stormy, but stormy was constantly following Darcy around and wanted to do everything Darcy did and wanted to be everywhere Darcy was and just loved the hell out of him (stormy had never met another cat before). Thankfully at the end of two weeks Darcy came around and now they're pretty good kitty friends.

Darcy has this blanket that he loves. He sleeps on it, he kneads it, he just chills and watches people on it, and it's never been washed because he's not a dirty kitty and we don't want to wash away his scent. Today I caught stormy rubbing himself and rolling around all over the blanket. Was stormy trying to claim the blanket or was he loving Darcy's smell?

  • What do I do for my kitty?

He has really really fine fur that mats easily. He's 5, so trust me when I say I've been trying for a long time to find ways to keep him mat free. Obviously the first option is brushing. I've used so many different brushes and he hates them all. I've tried giving him treats or having someone scruff him, he still growls and eventually snaps at me to tell me "enough". At one point I gave up on brushing and tried to snip the mats out as they showed up and it worked for a while but then he started biting me for that too (no, I never cut him, he just got impatient). I tried bathing him like I've seen suggested a few times. His back paws touched the water and he clawed my entire arm trying to get away. His mats are so bad and I know I can cut them out if he would just let me but he won't. Do I call the vet or groomer? I'm so embarrassed, they'll think I don't care about my cat or something!!!

  • Should I take my kitty to the vet?

His eye is watering a lot, he's started sneezing a lot this morning, he won't be in rooms with the light on and hides alone in dark rooms, and he started pawing at his eye yesterday morning. It's been about 4 days that his eye has been doing this and I'm not sure of how the sneezing and eye watering are related though I assume they are.

  • How to settle an upset stomach caused by medication?

I've been put on two antibiotics and, even though I eat when I take them, my stomach is burning and I feel like I want to throw up. The medications are ciprofloxacin and cephalexin. If it makes a difference i'm also on imuran, pentasa, Wellbutrin and amlodapine.

  • Can a finger be broken even if it doesn't bruise?

Today I was playing with the kids at work and one of the boys threw a ball at me and I tried to catch it. Whether the throw was too hard or I caught it funny but it felt like it got jammed and since then (about 10 hours ago) my finger has been swollen and hasn't been able to straighten on it's own, and if I even tap it and move the finger tip just a little it hurts like mad hell. Is it possible for a finger/knuckle to be broken without bruising?

  • What should I do about my cat?

We moved a few days ago (roughly 5) and he's still pretty stressed. He's a bit over four years old and has always been a very happy cat. He's very happy when he's with my boyfriend or me in our room, he has everything he needs in there and acts totally normal. The problem is when he leaves the room and comes across the other cat. We've moved him into a house with a cat and dog, both of which he's lived with at the same time before, but I guess there's something about this cat he doesn't like?

He's alright with the dog, doesn't love him but doesn't mind him. Every time he sees this other cat he starts forcing himself to drool and foam at the mouth, then he runs back to our bedroom and sometimes he pukes because he's worked himself up so much. I don't want to bring him back to my mom's house, I don't want to live in a house without my kitty anymore and I know he misses me when we're apart, but I don't know what to do and I don't want him to get depressed or get sick from all the stress.

  • Can you think of anywhere else to look?

My cat has only two toys he likes, a red plushie square, and a knitted mouse. The red square has been missing for a couple weeks and last night the mouse was in the middle of the kitchen when I went to bed but now it's missing too. I'm moving him out of my parent's and into my new house early tomorrow morning and I can't find either one anywhere.

I've looked under every couch, bed, and dresser, behind curtains, in shoes, in baskets... I'm kind of lost. Does anyone else have any ideas where to look?

  • What can I do about this?

Yesterday morning I discovered a bed bug bite on the back of my upper arm. Last night it swelled up to about 2 inches in diameter and my whole arm ached when I tried to do anything (including typing). My boyfriend and I concluded that the swelling was probably putting pressure on a tendon or pinching a nerve. Now in a couple hours I have to start packing boxes and the damn bite is almost 7 inches!!! I don't have benedryl and apparently the ice didn't help last night.

  • Am I having a heart attack??

Of course, I'm a dumbass and googled my symptoms. I'm 20, female, honestly i'm pretty out of shape. My right arm aches so so much, I'm dead tired and dizzy, I keep getting random bouts of "butterflies in my tummy" and it makes me want to puke, I've had a massive headache all day that feels like it's coming from the back of my neck.

  • Could a bed bug bite make my entire arm ache?

My entire right arm is in pain. It aches so damn much I can't focus on my assignment. I got the bite right above my elbow on the back of my arm this morning and it's gotten bigger and bigger and it's freaking hot (this is a normal reaction for me when it comes to bed bug bites, so I think it's safe to assume I'm allergic.)

Is there any way the swelling could hurt my whole arm (from mid-upper arm to my knuckles)?

  • Can two pregnancies be extremely different?

My first pregnancy, that I lost at 7.5 weeks, was rough. I was sick all the time, had food aversions to everything but two very specific things, was incredibly exhausted all the time, and starting at 3 weeks felt cramps and sharp pains. For some strange reason my head is telling me I m pregnant again but all I m feeling is dead tired and like I m always full and a weird butterfly/sick feeling sometimes. Can pregnancies differ so drastically or am I imagining things?

  • Why is this cat so clingy?

It's my boyfriend's roommate's cat. She just recently stopped being in heat and now she's been outside my boyfriend's bedroom door crying to get in for over 14 hours now. Even if we got fed up in the middle of the night and chased her away, she'd be back 5 minutes later. We let her in yesterday afternoon and she was insanely needy and obsessed with being pet. We gently kicked her out of the room after she drooled on my $130 text book (she drools when she kneads). Wtf is going on with this cat it's getting kinda weird and I'm worried something is wrong.
