  • Will a financial advisor be able to help me with this?

I am recently married (2 years) and both my husband and I had job losses last year so we used our credit cards more than normal. We have a mortgage of about $200,000, 3 large credit cards ($2500, $1500, $1200) and 1 furniture store card ($1000). Other than those, we have a couple of small things here and there (approx $500 total). My issue is we continue to pay $200 on each credit card (min is about $50) but we aren't making a dent in any of them! The rates on all the cards have gone up because we are spending more but when I called the companies, they said they can't lower the interest rates for me! UGH! I have one at 24%!

So I was thinking about getting a large credit card and transfering all the credit card balances to that (they offer 0% interest on transfers for 1 year) to get the balances down, however, I don't want to make any mistakes. I feel like I just need someone to sit down with my husband and I and come up with a plan to help us pay our debt down to just owing on our mortgage.

Would a financial advisor be able to help us do that? and possible help us with getting our rates lowered or transfering our balances?

  • I need information on the Loews Hotel in Midtown?

I am going to the Lowes Hotel in Midtown tonight and was hoping to find out some answers to a couple of questions I couldn't find on the internet...I think its because the hotel is brand new.

    1) I see parking is $30 a night...is there anyway around that? Or parking close by that is cheap?

    2) Is the water pressure still an issue as you go higher in the building?

    3) Is it hard to request a room with a view of the city?

    4) Any other tips for staying there?

  • Can I plug my cat5 cord from my desktop into my laptop for internet use?

So I borrowed a laptop from work to "work from home". My IT guy said just take the ethernet cord out of my home computer (desktop) and put it into my laptop. Then I will be able to access the internet.

Its a yellow cord that says cat5. The head of it fits into the back of my laptop in a socket with a picture of three small rectangles (in a pyramid shape) and the light on it turns green.

    But no internet! Ugh!

  • Physical Requirements for the Navy?

I just looked at the physical requirements for the Navy and I was shocked that a woman 5'10'' has to be under 177lbs. I am almost 40lbs over that, and although I know Im not in top shape, I am not obsese or anything. I would be a stick if I were 177lbs.

So, what are my options if I want to join the Navy? Also, can I join the Navy and lose the weight with them or do I have to lose it before I join?

  • Question about my interest in joining militarty?

So, I am a 25 year old married woman with a bachelors degree in business management. I have been working as an administrative assistant in the corporate world for 5 years and I all of a sudden hate it!

I want to do something great with my career that will have a life long impact. So, I started to think about the military or serving as a police officer or firefighter.

I spoke with a friend who is a cop and he says my past drug use will disqualify me from joining the force. I am thinking the same will occur for firefighting. So, that leaves me to military.

My main concern is that I am too old, a female, married, etc.

Can someone tell me a little more about my options. I don't necessarily want to be shipped off to fight in the war but I am interested in other things like fixing helecopters or doing administrative work.

Is the reserves an option? I just want some input.

    Thanks!

  • Car is making constant loud knocking noise when idle?

I have an automatic 99 Toyota 4-Runner that has never had any major issues and has been taken care of.

Recently, the engine is making a loud constant knocking noise when in idle. It stops when I put it in park, but the second I go to drive or reverse, it starts again. It seems to get less noicsy when I accelerate but I think it is still doing it a little bit.

I am a female and the last thing I want to do is go to a repair shop and tell them I dont have a clue whats wrong...that opens up a can of worms for them to make up something and charge me for unnessary things.

Please give me some ideas of what it could be and if possible, around how much it cost to fix.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Does my weightloss plan sound ok or does it need some tweaking? Personal Trainers?

I am a 5'10'' 225lb female looking to lose about 40 lbs within a year.

I just started back to the gym and eating better.

I go to the gym at 5:30am everyday during the week and around 9am on Saturday. Sundays are usually a rest day, but I do sometimes go to the gym on Sundays.

At the gym I always do 30 minutes on the elliptical or crosstrainer and my heart rate is right in the middle of the fat burn level and cardio level.

Then I stretch for 5 minutes and do about 100 crunches.

Next I do 20 minutes of light weights with high reps alternating each muscle group each day (arms, legs, and then shoulders/chest).

I do a small amount of ab workouts everyday.

For my food plan, I joined caloriecounter and record everything I eat. The website says to eat about 1700 calories a day which I usually achieve or go right under. I am eating more protein and carbs but staying away from sugar.

I also started drinking at least 64oz of water a day and taking a multivitamin everyday.

What do you think of my plan? Does anything need to be changed or added?

How long do you think it will take to lose the 40lbs?

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Office Lunch replacement for Lean Cuisine/Healthy Choice?

I have recently committed myself to losing 50 lbs. I am definitely eating better (5-6 small healthy meals a day) and working out everyday for an hour.

I was eating lean cuisines/healthy choice meals almost everyday for lunch. When I looked at the nutrition information I was astonished by how much sodium is in them!

So, can you please give me some ideas of what I can have a lunch that is as easy as the lean cusines/healthy choices?

I have a fridge, freezer, and microwave at work.

    Thank you!

  • Are there any laws about where someone can put their dock on the lake?

We live at Lake Lanier in GA on a large peninsula. Last year, because of the drought, we let our next door neighbors move their dock to the other side of ours so that their dock would not end up beaching. It was within 10 feet of ours and really crowded. Now, the lake is flooding and we want them to move their dock back to their spot (where their power poll is, its about 100 yard away). They said they wont and they dont have to. What can we do? Is there laws about this? Who do we call?

  • A few questions about my Las Vegas Trip?

My husband and I (mid 20s) are going to Vegas at the end of September and staying at the MGM.

We have a couple of questions....

    1) Is it best to buy show tickets once we get there or should we get them online before we leave?

    2) Do most restaurants require reservations? If so, how far in advance do we need to book them?

    3) What is the best club to go to during the week? We like dancing and being crazy....lots of action!

    4) Have you tried the $20 sandwich trick to get an upgrade at MGM....did it work?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I'm 25, should I start saving for retirement?

I am 25 and in the "working world" now so I want to start putting away money for retirement but I've heard stories of people losing their investments because of the economy....how can that be?

The company I work for contributes $.50 on the dollar up to 6%.

I have heard the terms 401K, ROTH IRA, CD, Saving account, stocks and bonds, etc all thrown around.

What is the best option for me and what are the differences in each?

Lastly, if I use the work 401K should I just do 6% or should I do more?

I can afford to go more but not too much.

    Thanks in advance!

p.s. Please take into account the hurting economy.

  • Do I need to change my maiden name on my passport and greencard?

I recently got married and legally changed my last name to my husbands. My drivers license and social security card has my new last name but my passport and green card (british citizen but permanent resident of the USA) have my maiden name.

Do I really need to change the name on my passport and green card or can I do that once they expire in a few years?

Also, do I have to change them to travel out of the country or can I just bring my marriage license?

  • How to get pregnant if husband can't ejaculate inside me?

My husband and I have been together for almost 3 years and he has not once ejaculated inside me.

My husband has never been able to ejaculate inside a woman and he is 38 years old.

He can ejaculate by masturbation but for some reason, he has never been able to do it inside someone.

We now want to get pregnant but don't know what other processes are available.

Is there any websites that discuss options for this?

Can you use a siringe and squirt it inside or does it have to be done medically?

  • Is it mean not to invite someone to an event because you know you will have to entertain them?

I have a friend that is not as confident and sociable as me....but I love her company and she is a great friend of mine.

Whenever I have a party/go out/etc, and she is there, I have to entertain her or else she just sits on the side like a bump on a log.

I am having a huge July 4th party that she does not know about yet but there is a small chance she may find out about it.

Would it be totally mean not to invite her because I wont have time to entertain her?

Has anyone been in the same situation?

  • Need Advice....lawyers, bankers, etc?

My parents used to run a business and made a great life for themselves, however, with the economy, their debt was so overwelming that they had to get their boat repossessed (approx $400,000). They decided that taking the hit on their credit was the best thing to do in their situation.

Now, a friend of theirs said that because they did that, all of the other things they own (house, cars, etc) are going to get taken away to pay back the boat loan. I dont see how they could do that. Is that possible or is the credit hit the worst of the situation?
