  • What do you call your child's teacher?

Whether talking to my daughter, writing a note or email, or speaking with them in person, I have always referred to my daughter's teachers, and principal as Mr. Smith, or Ms. Jones, but I noticed at a School Council meeting, one of the parents referred to the teachers and principal by their given names. Am I the only one?

  • How do you address stealing in school?

I bought my daughter an orange mini stapler with her school supplies this year. She was over the moon about being able to staple her papers together. Our winter weather being what it is, the class had indoor recess almost everyday for weeks before Christmas, but my daughter left the classroom to rehearse for the Christmas concert. One day, when she came back, another kid had her stapler, claimed it was his, and wrote his name all over it. When she spoke to the teacher about it, he told her to clean out her desk and make sure it was gone. She did. The teacher then did ... NOTHING.

I expect school supplies to go missing, pens, erasers, markers, that's fine. Kids borrow and forget all the time. This child in particular is always taking her pencil crayons and markers without asking. But deliberately going into her desk and taking something is stealing. I told my daughter to do the right thing, and she was left hurt and frustrated. And this kid is waving her stapler in her face everyday. And he has learned that he can steal, and there are no consequences.

Do I let this go, and buy her a new stapler, or do I ask the teacher if he plans to address this, and buy a new stapler (we don't want the old one back now)?

  • How do I block my FB profile?

I only add people I know to be friends on Facebook. I belong to a Facebook group, and someone in the group looked up my personal information from my profile. Is there a way I can prevent that. Looked over all the privacy settings, but there doesn't seem to be one for blocking your profile.

  • Why do people assume single parents suck?

I keep seeing answers about single parent homes and how they can't give a child what they need. And my mind is blown when I think about my amazing daughter, and how much she has already accomplished.

Just this year, she was in the Running Club, Library Club, joined the School Patrol, was a Lunchroom Helper, led the choir in singing the national anthem at the Spring Concert, raised money to participate in a local charity event, took part in the talent show, and participated in lunchtime Karaoke at my office. And, she got straight As on her report card.

Do people really believe that single parents cannot raise their children as well as a two parent family can? I thought we had gotten past that.

  • How to remove a mildew stain from a shirt?

I bought my daughter a fabulous shirt in Paris. She, of course tossed it on the floor of the laundry room. Washing machine leaked and lots of stuff was ruined. I didn't even see it until much later. The shoulder is covered in a bunch of tiny mildew stains.

The shirt is hot pink, so bleaching is out of the question. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Why do Americans have so many shootings?

I love my country, but we have crazy people too. And yet we don't have nearly the record of mass shootings as the country south of the border. Why do you suppose that is?

  • Question about babysitting rates?

I have a unique situation. My new job is on the other end of the city, and I don't drive. To bus there, I have to leave home at 6:30. The out of school care doesn't open until 7. I have contacted the person who runs the out of school care and asked if I can leave my daughter with her at 6:30 and she can take my daughter with her when she goes in. It's basically an extra half hour with a very well behaved 10-year-old who will read the whole time.

  • Is anyone familiar with The London Dungeons?

My daughter and I will be in London, and while they look interesting, and it claims to be family fun, I'm not certain that it is age appropriate for her. And are they cheesy, or really good?

  • Planning a stay in Paris?

My daughter and I are planning a trip to Paris in the spring. Of course we'll be using a travel agent, but can anyone recommend some good places for us to stay, so that I do a little research first? We have never travelled before, I don't drive, and it will be just me and my 10-year-old, so safety, and proximity to attractions are important to us. It doesn't have to be fancy, but clean and fairly modern would be preferred, and price is not a problem, we've put aside a good bit of money for the trip.

  • Watch setting instructions?

My daughter got a cheap digital watch as a prize from school. The watch has an alarm setting, a stopwatch setting, and a date setting, and no instructions, of course. We accidentally screwed up the date setting, and now I can't correct that. I can view the date, but not change it. There is a mode button, a start button, a reset button, and a light button. Any ideas on a combo that will help me change the date?

  • I installed IE9, and now?

I can no longer customize the size of the Shockwave window on my daily jigsaw. Lame, I know, but I like it, but I used to customize the size so I can see the menu buttons, but with the new window, that option doesn't exixt on the window anymore.
