  • LEAKS!! SLAB? LEAKS!! HELP!?

Off and on for a couple of months now we notices a wet wood smell not musty just more chemical.. we figured it was off gassing of new materials since this is a new place. Now we realize its likely a leak. it begins in the laundry room and travels along the wall where the waste line would go out to the septic tank. The odor comes and goes and IS NOT SEWER GAS... but it tends to show up when we are using more water in the home. We realize now this may have been going on for a long time. There are NO wet places on carpets or floors . We fear there is a small leak in a wastewater line and its seeping between the walls along the studs. Here is one reasonw e feel its wastewater lines... Today we washed numerous loads of clothes with Bleach.. the bedroom the line runs paste got a very bleachy smell and the kind of smell youd get if you put bleach like on wood or soemthing... that convinced us its wasteline.. WHich concerns us because we do not know if that also means toilets could have been leaking into the wall as well!!!! OMG! We plan to open the wall in the laundry room on Monday hoping to see if we can see something obvious nad find out if there is mold growing in the wall. Id like input from people hwo may have advice about this situation, ideas suggestions etc...

We are hoping its something obvious that maybe loosened from a washer vibrating the floor and will not be IN the slab! if its soething like that we can fix it.. long as there is no obvious nastyness in the wall! else we are in real trouble I thinkl. Im looking for contractors and plumbers to reply to this. This is new construction with PVC drain lines... ranch style on a slab and a septic tank.. but the septic tank is ok and the observation areas in the drain fiedl are dry. ALso rain does not effect this.. only our water use. Please reply with anything you can think of.. WHen the smell comes across in the one bedroom it makes some of us ill.. burns our eyes and nose its like something reacting with something else.. we assume bleach from our washer coming in contact with building materials in the wall but we do not know for sure. IT IS not sewer gas though. We have also noticed some areas of mold popping up in the bathroom and now assume we must have it in our air suspecting it may be in teh walls now.. but again no wet places and no mold on walls coming through.. YET...... We have lived here since last May so this may have been going on a LOOOONG time and we use A lot of water ALOT! we also have birds in the home that are not feeling well.. unsure what it is but seems re\lated to the odd smell.. they improve when its not there and feel worse if it is... good indication this is NOT good!

    THANKS in advance!

  • National Guard or Reg. Army?

    National Guard or REG Army?

Hi... A friend of ours recently joined the Amry under the new age limits ... my Husband is now looking at going back in... He is prior service (navy) so he would not get any of teh bonus pay til re upped nextt time.

My Husband is also 41... looking at Guard and Reg army...

Id like to hear from current or former members of both ... Pro's and Con's kind of things...

I am looking for the pros and cons of each branch, we are already familiar with BCT and the rest of it ... just havng trouble deciding between Guard and Reg Army to begin with.

There also seems ot be some question if he could now go Officer over enlisted after AIT because of age...need info on that if anyone knows

Even if he choose Guard I think he will go REG army later.. He is looking to put in the 20 years now..

THanks in Advance for the info!

  • Is anyone looking for a way to help soldiers this Christmas?

    Hi

If you are wondering how you could help out a soldier or even a few this holdiay season... Look no more!

Serioulsy,, Our family found a great site.

Its a site run by a military famil and is legit and its great. It lets you read descriptions of soldiers and what they would like or need, it has memebers from ALL branches of the service .

The soldiers sign up , and then you can get thier APO mailing address off the site.. they have over 3500 soldiers out there.

Anyway,, you can send a care package or just letters.. they are sooooo happy for anything they get to remind them why they ae there and that folks back home care.

Many of them have computer access or computers and will happily email you if you include an email address.

We are in contact with about 5,, and really have enjoyed sending things when we could and getting emails. WE have gotten a lot out of it as well. Our kids have a blast too!

    here is the site www.anysoldier.com

    Happy Holidays!

  • Exotic Pets on Military Bases- ARMY?

    Hi

See my other question in here titled National guard or Army?

Basically My husband has now decided hes going back into the Miliatry at age 41... have not chosen where yet Army or Guard

    But

We have 2 Mallards.. we have wildlife permits for them but we are not willing to get rid of them to do this.. not at all

I work with Wildlife, and they were rescues over 3 years ago and are family to all of us now.

I cant seem to get a real answer or get conflicting info on whether

this type of animal would be allowed if we were living on base in base housing?

I only ask because even if were to live off base and go REG army and My husband were to get trransfered overseas where we'd live on base.. then we'd be in trouble...

Any info on this would be good or any contact sites or info as well...

    Thank you!

The site is well run and very good..check it out ..

Wondered how many had hear of it??

Takes about 3 weks ot get a pack to Iraq.. and then the unit will get it whenever mail gets to them...

You only pay shipping cost to New York not Iraq..

  • I should have asked if anyone else was frustrated?

    Hi

Ok I asked who thinks there are too many out here asking etc.. a few minutes ago.... so far great response.

First.. I am a retired Trauma Nurse, I also have a Zoology degree, work in Wildlife rescue, conservation and manage urban waterfowl

I am obtaining a wildlife Vet degree as well.

I understand how important it is for folks who do not know to have a place to go ask and for folks who do know to take a sec and answer.. I guess I am only frustrated in what I read so much of.. and you cant answer them all and you never heaer back from most as to the outcome of what ended up happening...

My question should have been... anyone else frustrated??? I certainly do not want people not coming out asking and just leaving an animal suffer ..

No offesne was meant at all.. just looking for others who are frustrated is all!

    :0)

    Thanks

  • Is there anyone else out here who thinks there are way too many folks asking Pet questions ....?

Who else out here feels there are way too many people signing on in this forum asking serious Pet/Animal questions that should be seeing a VET instead,.and way too many idiots giving out rediculous and incorrect answers to those often life threatening situations??!!

It is just common sense that if you have a dog who is not eating or drinking and laying there you see a VET!!! Or a rabbit having seizures.. you dont wait an hour THEN sign into Yahoo and ask complete strangers what should I do?

I realize maybe some can not afford the VET.. but then You should NOT have those animals. If youc ant afford to take care of them .. DONT GET THEM!

Am I the only one out here who comes on and sees this every time they sign in and just cant beleive it?

Oh and lets not forget the ones asking for Medical diagnosis or advice from " vet Techs or Vets only" Please

NOBODY can make a diagnosis without seeing the animal.. And how would you know they are even VETS!????

So who else feels this way!?

  • Home for Goose- Serious Answers only... Needs good home not for COOKING!?

    Hi

Needing a good home for an older domestic Grey and White goose.. may be possible to have 2nd white goose ..Likely female . no idea on age.

Both in good health. Been living in City ( population 5000) pond and riverway and cared for by our family.. One was dumped there several years ago. The other recently.

We are wanting to move out of the area but need to find a home for them before we can do that.

A good home would be... someplace where he can be the boss as he is used to it.. has other birds preferrably ducks not too many other geese.. or none.

He has seen 4 mates and a gosling, killed by people over the years and tends to socialize with ducks better than other geese now. He even adopts a mom duck each spring and her babies as his own...

He needs a loving home with a pond, lake or river, & Love

He is a male.. and is at least 7 years old and Fertile.

The other all white goose we feel is female but are not sure.. was a recent drop off, and seems very used to people
