  • I don't understand...?

I'm a 24 year old male. I like to think I'm an ok looking kid, like hanging out with mates, playing music, got an ok job...I've had a few girlfriends in the past but haven't dated for a couple of years...

Recently I've been pretty focussed on working and studying my CA so I haven't been out that much. I work as an accountant, but this definitely doesn't define who I am or what I'm like as a person.

I always said I wouldn't do it, but decided I'd try the online dating thing as a way of expanding my social horizons. So far I feel like I've been shut down every time I make an effort to get to know a girl. I can't even get a reply from a first message.

I spose what I'm asking is, what is it that puts a girl off when she's checking out a 'profile'? What do they look for? Could it be that girls are bombarded with requests from guys?

  • If you were an atheist...?

Stop me if I'm wrong, but is this how it is for an atheist?

    1. The world is an accident of nature. Everything that exists sprung forth from a single celled organism...albeit over millions of years.

    2. Life has no purpose. What you see is what you get. Have fun while it lasts because the ride ends before you know it.

    3. If matter wasn't created by an all powerful being, then clearly atheists believe that the matter that formed the Universe was always there. ie. this matter (or energy in whatever form) is infinitely old...there is no start to its existence...is it not more logical that an all powerful creator is infinitely old?

    4. We are just like any animal, only more intelligent. There is nothing unique about a human except for a 'clever' mind.

    5. There is no such thing as right or wrong...only that which is imposed by culture.

    6. Religion has been created by people who are weak, naive and stupid in order that they might find a purpose for life. 'Religious' people need that 'security blanket' when things get tough. There is no logic to the idea that the world has been created by a God. 'Religious' people are uneducated...they don't know anything about science. They blindly follow the 'religious' fairy story like sheep.

  • Customer service...small talk and smile important?

The majority of jobs involve dealing with customers or clients. As employees we are trained to deal with our customers/clients in a polite, friendly manner...ensuring we make an effort to woo them with small talk, playful banter etc...an attempt to make them feel special...and therefore reassure them that they're paying the right people to provide them with the goods/services they require. As a customer/client myself also, I know the motivation behind such behaviour and don't tend to consider this highly in choosing where I shop, seek financial advice etc....at least not consciously...

My question is, do you think we are aware of the impact this has on our decision to buy from a certain shop etc. (the belief that we are valued clients/customers...which we are...as long as we pay up)...and do you expect it...when you go through a checkout for example...? Why does it matter if it might not be sincere anyway?

  • Tired, dizzy, nauseas...?

I recently got back from an overseas holiday and felt pretty decrepit...dizzy, nauseas, tired and just all round crap. I figured it was jet lag and possibly a bug I'd picked up while my immune system was weak. It's been 5 weeks now and I still feel dizzy...like an off balance, world moving around kind of dizzy, that's always there, but gets extra bad randomly...and I get nausea that comes and goes...usually along with the dizziness. I've been to the doc and had blood tests, which came back ok and he's said to leave it for a couple of weeks in case its a virus. Could it be some kind of inner ear thing? I'm pretty over feeling this way. It makes it hard to work when you're tired, dizzy and nauseas all the time...

  • Is unemployment really affecting people in the US?

Call me naive and ignorant...I live in Perth, Western Australia and haven't been aware of too many instances of job losses (just yet anyway)...I work as an accountant so naturally stay well read on current economic conditions, but I get the impression that there are significantly more job losses in the US than I thought (given the unemployment rate was around 6% over there last time I checked)...job losses here relate mainly to the financial services industry (brokers, bank staff)...staff recruitment has certainly slowed, but employers aren't sacking employees just yet...

  • Tax implications of selling a business in Australia?

A mate of mine is looking at selling his business. I was just wondering how the value of the business apportioned to assets and goodwill will affect the capital gain and ultimately the tax he pays when he sells.

  • Is there more to the world...?

We believe the world to be what we sense it to be. That is, if we can see, hear, taste, touch or smell it, then we say it exists. Therefore we limit our world to what we can perceive. Like a deaf person who percieves the world to be without sound, do you think there are forces, energies or whatever else you might call them, that we are unable to sense and so our perception is incomplete?

  • Deal breakers for a girl?

I'm putting this out there again...some d!ick deleted my last question...if this doesn't make the cut you need to reassess your reasons because there's plenty worse getting through...

So this funny, sweet, intelligent guy approaches you to start a conversation, but has one of the following physical 'deformities'

    1. Quite a few freckles, otherwise quite attractive

    2. Mild acne, without which he'd be a nice looking guy

    3. A few acne scars from his teenage years

    4. A couple of large moles

    5. One wart somewhere on his face

    6. A scar on his cheek from an accident

    the dealbreakers are...?

  • Why do girls care so much?

There are so many girls that want to know whether guys think they're hot, how they can attract guys and what they can do to please guys...seriously, alot of guys aren't that special...why does it matter so much? Don't you have other dreams, interests and things you want to pursue? When a guy comes along who likes you for you and you feel the same, then go for it...otherwise, don't waste your time...there's so much more in life to be enjoyed...right?

  • I think I'm dead inside...?

Like most male teenagers, growing up I was pretty obsessed with the female sex...there were always girls who had that 'something' that had me captivated...I'd love spending time with girls and loved the chase...

I'm now 24 and after a few failed relationships haven't had a girlfriend in a while...this is mostly because I haven't met any girls who have that special quality (whatever that might be) that gets me excited to be with them...there have been a few really hot chics who have shown interest recently, but I just feel like 'meh'...take it or leave it...

I can't fault these girls...and I'm definitely sexually attracted to them...but I don't want a girl for sex...i want a girl to share life with, but i don't seem to know what i want...any one else feel the same way...'dead inside'?

  • crappy skin at 24...?

I'm 24. Up until a couple of years ago I had really bad skin. I went on roaccutane, which really cleared things up. Since then though I've had smaller little spots...enough for there to be constant little red marks on my face.

I wash my face twice daily, drink plenty of water, don't eat alot of sugar or fatty food, don't drink and take zince and garlic tablets. Are there any other tips get your skin looking nice? My parents both had bad skin as teenagers, but grew out of it in their early twenties...

  • Any nice chics left...?

Here's how it seems to be these days...please, stop me if I'm wrong...

girls have progressively become more independent, confident and uncomprimising in their demands for respect from a guy...which is great... however, it also seems true that many girls now carry a 'tough b***h, my way or the highway' kind of attitude aswell...I'm a little old fashioned and believe that a guy should be the gentlemen to his lady...open the door, pay for the girl at dinner and generally just look after her...not to patronize her, but simply to spoil her...however im not compelled to do this for a girl with attitude...are there any ladies left in the world? Do girls not want this in a relationship? Am I being unrealistic in my expectations?
