  • Is there a way to block those annoying adverts on cable TV?

I hate adverts, I want to block them, there must be a signal that contains a unique pattern, a clever circuit could detect, and blank my screen or mute my speakers. How dare they put adverts on MY tv.

  • What is the better game console, XBOX 360, or PS3?

    READ PLZ;

    Im looking for several things,

1, Reliability, (my 360 suffered the red ring of death lights, so i don't want that happening)

2, Free to play online, (I know the 360 fails epically here, is the PS3 free to play online??)

3, Mod-ability, (The Classic Xbox could be modded, can it be done to the 360 or PS3, if so elaborate please..)

    4. Hardware Specifications, (basically what is the best in terms of Ram and CPU)

    Thanks all

  • Should I be using Caustic Soda to clean my toilet, or kitchen sink?

As we all know, Caustic soda or Sodium hydroxide has the capacity to destroy living tissue, should I be using this to clean my drains? I have actualy put some down the toilet, @ 33% concentration in liquid form, and noticed it is breaking up the limescale too.... Would this attack greasy food and fats if they are blocking the pipes?

  • Faster than light speed question?

    Ok, I have a question.

    Scenario,

I create a ship that can travel at light speed.

I decide to fly it straight towards a distant star, from planet earth as my start point.

If the ship is traveling towards a light emitter (star), would the photons that are hitting the hull of the ship, be doing so at twice light speed? Also would the photons hitting my retina be also at twice the speed of light, making the star appear to be arriving faster?

If i turn around in my seat, and look behind as I leave earth, would it appear that earth is motionless, as i would be traveling at the same speed of earths reflected light???

Also design considerations, at those velocities, would there be a collision problem with the photons hitting the front hull of the ship? My idea is that it may get very very hot. Would making the ship reflective, like a mirror surface help shield me from the photons? I also think it may appear twice as bright... would this happen?

  • Majority shareholder question.?

If for example I ended up buying enough shares in a company, and became the majority shareholder, could I choose to liquidate the company and sell off its assets?

Am I right to think I would be able to get a lot of money this way depending on how much they are worth?

  • Does more weight and more speed equals more energy?

Is there a way to guess the amount of power produced by an automobile engine, just going by Mass and Speed?

For instance if the vehicle weighs 100Tons and can travel at a speed of 180MPH, what is the likely power output of the engine? Also at that kind of speed and weight, would the kinetic energy be quite feared by others? What are the chances that I would survive a collision if one occurred with another normal car.

  • Turbo Diesel tuning question.?

I need some more power out of my TD engine, Can I simply reduce pressure to the waste-gate to make it open later, thus increasing the boost? I understand also id need to adjust the fuel pump so it injects more fuel to keep the mixture from going too lean. My first plan is to install a boost gauge so I can see where the pressure lies, then increase it about 5%

I think it has the Bosch VE style pump.

Does anyone have any other tips for more power.

  • High performance motherboard?

I am looking for a motherboard that can support more than 8 cores, I am looking for it to have a memory capacity of around 128GB, I have looked at TYAN boards, as they offer one, really im looking for advice from others as my idea of a machine may not be the best way.. I am used to making my computers using server boards... are these necessarily designed to a higher level than (mickey mouse) retail mother boards, or am I looking at the whole single cpu board in the wrong light...

Im thinking, as many cores as possible, at the highest speed possible, the most amount of ram possible, the fastest data rate hard drive possible, a good to high end graphics card, Nvidia 285? Gigabit for LAN.

Is fully buffered ECC better performance than normal non-buffered non-ECC RAM?

Will I gain any addressing speed if I choose FAT32 over NTFS?

Will hard drive Compression increase performance?

  • How powerful is Great Britain really?

Im British and there are certain things I hear like the queen has so much power, but she chooses not to wield it... I also hear there are so many secret services that they watch most of your life on cctv somewhere, they know what you buy and what you watch on TV. Does this small country really have that much power and to what extent? We pretty much revolutionized the world during the industrial revolution. But What are we now, are we still as mighty as we once were, maybe we are but it is shrouded from our knowledge.

  • Why is stainless steel prohibited for use in steam engine boilers?

I have often wondered why the use of stainless steels are prohibited for use on steam engine boilers, I cant see why there would be any problems if the boiler is designed correctly.

Had a look everwhere, and cant seem to find anyone making even a model boiler using stainless steel. They all seem to be copper, which is obviously chosen for its conductivity properties.

As we all know, the stainless steel would offer superiour corrosion protection and is quite easy to machine.

  • why do cars with LPG kits, still need to use Unleaded Petrol to run?

I need to know this, it has been paining me for a few years, all these new LPG kits have come onto the market, and with fuel prices in Great Britian being so high, im astounded that we still need to use petrol in our cars that have been so called "converted" to run on Autogas.

Correct me if im wrong, but Im sure I wasnt smoking anything when I saw a forklift truck drive past, powered by propane. The engine in it was a carb type, and a standard 4 cyl Perkins. It ran perfectly, no need for petrol at all.

I am told that it has something to do with the vaporiser needing a supply of heated coolant to stop it from freezing, understandable... but it hasn't answered my question, surely gas fired forklift trucks would suffer the same problem?? why dont they need petrol? and why cant cars just simply run on LPG alone?

I think its also to do with out government, and they dont like people to stop buying ridiculously priced fuel to line their pockets with gold. If we turned to LPG without need for petrol, they would be worried. And soon you'll notice the price of LPG goes through the roof.

I know there are some engineers out there that can reveal the truth, please let us know. thanks.
