  • How to make one layer always visible in a gif?

    I'm using GIMP and GAP 2.6 trying to create a gif. Is it possible to make one layer always visible in the gif? This would be used so I wouldn't have to copy and paste text layers between every one of my picture layers. Any ideas?

  • Randomly disconnect from network, bandwidth below normal?

    Just recently, my computer's started acting up. At random points, it will disconnect from my home network for no reason. If I try to reconnect, it tells me "Cannot connect to [network name]." Troubleshooting says that it's trouble with the router, but of my three other computers, all access the network fine, don't disconnect, and have normal speeds.

    My download speed on the wireless network generally fluctuates between 8 and 12 Mbps download. On this computer, it now fluctuates between .62 and 1.93 Mbps. Other computers on the network are still getting the normal speed.

    I haven't downloaded any suspicious files lately, and I've run virus scans (with Norton Security Suite 10), which came up clean. I've deleted all programs that I've installed since the problem started, and that had no effect. Task Manager shows no random peaks of network usage - even when the test shows a low speed, TM shows the network is wide open.

    Running Windows 7 on an i7 720, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive.

    Right now, I'm basically at a loss to explain why this is happening, so I'm just looking for suggestions as to what I should try next. Any help is appreciated. :)

  • Automatically shut down computer based on temperature?

    Is there a way to program a computer to automatically shut down a computer when the internal temperature gets above a certain point? e.g. when my computer gets above 85'C, it automatically turns everything off, no matter what else is happening. Or, better yet, going into hibernation mode instead of just shutting off?

  • RCL Circuits Question?

    A series circuit contains only a resistor and an inductor. The voltage V of the generator is fixed. If R = 20 ohms and L = 3.2 mH, what is the frequency at which the current is one-fourth its value at zero frequency?

  • Mutual Induction Help?

    A long, current-carrying solenoid with an air core has 1750 turns per meter of length and a radius of 0.0190 m. A coil of 127 turns is wrapped tightly around the outside of the solenoid. What is the mutual inductance of this system?

  • My eRecovery doesn't work on my AspireOne netbook. Help?

    My computer just recovered from a virus, but it's still a bit crash-prone and error-ridden, so I want to reboot it to factory settings. Acer has a program - Acer eRecovery - that is supposed to allow me to do that. Whenever I try that, I get the following error message:

    See the end of this message for details on invoking

    just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** Exception Text **************

    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070422): The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

    at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize()

    at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Initialize()

    at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Get()

    at eRecovery.PopUp_RestoreDiskPartitionInfo.timer_Start_Tick(Object sender, EventArgs e)

    at System.Windows.Forms.Timer.OnTick(EventArgs e)

    at System.Windows.Forms.Timer.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr idEvent, IntPtr dwTime)

    This is followed by a bunch more lines of information that I can't make anything out of. Before anyone tries to answer with these, I've already tried F10, and I don't have a recovery CD because the AspireOne is a netbook and has no CD drive.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

  • Weather Music for Piano?

    I'm looking for a suite of piano sheet music that will imitate the weather, or at least accompany it well. Preferably classical music, but contemporary works as well. And nothing too difficult - I've been playing for about 7 years and gotten pretty far, but I'd like to be able to learn it in about six months. Any suggestions welcome; thanks.

  • Photo Printing -- Cardboard?

    I've been to a few art fairs recently, and most of the photographers had their pictures printed on what looks like cardboard. It wasn't just printed then pasted on cardboard, though - it was good quality. How do I get prints like this, or where can I send my photos to be printed like this?

    I've heard that this is museum style, but I can't find anything on that. Any suggestions?

  • Changing a laptop to tablet PC?

    Basically, a laptop/notebook has everything needed for a tablet PC except for the touchscreen and the ability to swivel 180'. Would it be possible to remove the screen from the notebook, buy a touchscreen, and attach that to the notebook so that it would function as a tablet PC?

  • Best Sites to see in Europe?

    I want to go on a trip through Europe someday, and I was just wondering what some of the best sites to see would be. Assuming that I have all the time in the world and no cost restrictions (I'll figure those out later), where should I go? I'm already thinking the Lake District and Tower of London in England, the Eiffel Tower in France, the Leaning Tower of Piza and the Colesseum (someone please tell me how to spell that correctly - it's driving me nuts) in Italy, and maybe a remnant of the Berlin Wall in Germany. Where else should I go?

  • Best Language Programs?

    I'm looking for two things: a language program that will give you a crash course in a few weeks of enough of a language to enable you to work your way around that country, and a separate program that will allow you to explore the language more in-depth, and enable you to speak more fluently. Basically, one program to enable you to be a tourist, the other to enable you to speak like a native (or at least closer to a native level).

    Cost is of no concern. Any suggestions?

  • Advertising a Newly Started Business?

    I want to start a business touching up people's home photos. For example, lightening the pictures, sharper contrasts, certain special effects (B&W, sepia, specific color, soft focus, blur, remove acne/birthmarks, etc.), and so on. My business will be mostly run online - they email me the pictures, tell me what they want done, I do it and email it back to them. Or, for an extra fee, I can print it out on high-quality photo paper and mail it to them. I'm even offering the first few people who contact me everything free, just so I can show what I can do. I've posted several ads on Craigslist, but no one's contacted me. How else and where else should I advertise?

  • Do I have an IP Virus?

    I accidentally clicked on a link to this one video hosted off youtube. It told me I needed to download Adobe to view it, so I downloaded setup.exe. Now, when I try to access my network settings, my IP address is no longer 192.168.1.1, it's 68.60.120.217, which is the location of that video. I tried googling how to reset the IP address, and the results show up normally, but the links take me to a site called http://ix-find.com/?q=Reset%20network%20ip. Not sure if that's related, just thought I'd throw it in there. I tried resetting my IP address by using ipconfig/release and /renew, but that didn't work. Please help.

  • Computer Won't Turn On - Internal Power Supply Problem?

    My computer won't turn on, and I've tried everything to try to reboot it. I unplugged everything, but it won't turn back on. It's a desktop, and a few years old, but up until yesterday, it worked fine. Whenever I plug it in, a green light right beneath the plug starts flashing, and quits a minute or so after I unplug it. It's attached to the Internal Power Supply, but I haven't taken that out or touched it - I don't want to break it. Recommendations?

  • Solar Powering Household Objects?

    I've been doing a lot of experimenting with renewable energy lately, mostly with the kits you buy online for solar-powered cars and whatnot. My question is: how can you convert the electricity coming from the solar panel (positive and negative wires) into a standard household 120V AC current? Preferably DIY, but I'm open to buying some equipment, as long as it's not expensive.
