  • Why did camouflage take so long to be used on battle uniforms?

I don't know when exactly camouflage was first invented but I know they used it on airplanes and tanks and some German helmets in World War 1. However it wasn't until World War 2 that it was used on uniforms (and still only in limited numbers by the SS and US soldiers in the Pacific as far as I'm aware). Camouflage BDUs didn't become standard in the US army until the 1980s unless I'm mistaken.

So if camouflage has existed for at least a hundred years why did it take so long for it to replace olive drab and other mono color uniforms? Did it have something to do with textile technology or something?

  • Novels about dictatorship?

I read Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick recently and it made me interested about people living under dictatorships. Can you recommend any novels about people living under dictatorships? I'm more interested in books that focus on the everyday lives of people living under such conditions rather than books about the dictators themselves.

    Thanks

  • What is the song that plays when Lalah Sune dies in Mobile Suit Gundam?

What is the name of the song that plays when Lalah Sune dies and she is communicating with Amuro telepathically? It's a female singer singing but I don't know her name. It plays a few times during the series I think but I know it plays when Lalah Sune dies in the episode A Cosmic Glow.

  • What is this song called?

There is a song which I am trying to remember the name of. I'm pretty sure it's by the Moody Blues. It's really hard to explain in text, but the refrain/chorus goes "nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah" and has a flute. I know that's very vague, but if anyone has an idea what the name of this song is I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  • Gift idea for family I will stay with?

I'm going to stay with my pen pal's family in Istanbul and I want to get her parent's a gift to thank them for letting me stay at their house. I want to get something they can share and something that is English (as I am from England and it is less likely they might be able to get it themselves). I've never been good at choosing gifts for people but I'd appreciate some suggestions.

  • How dark is the average Arab's skin?

What is the usual skin tone for Arab people living on the Arab peninsular? I am designing characters based on a Laurence of Arabia like project. A lot of the models I'm using are of Arab descent and are fairly pale skinned but they are models and I hear that pale skin is considered attractive but does not necessarily represent the average person (someone told me it is due to Arab's wanting to differentiate themselves from the descenders of freed African slaves). So what is the skin tone of the average Arab person? Would you say olive skinned, light brown, brown? Is there quite a big variance from person to person or is it relatively homogeneous? Because Arab's cover up so much (especially women) my research is hindered a bit.

  • Communism and Capitalism quote...?

I heard a quote once that I like and I want to know who it is attributed to and the exact phrase. I can't remember exactly how it goes, but it is something like this:

"Everything the communists told us about communism was a lie, unfortunately everything the communist told us about capitalism was the truth"

  • Good drawing exercises...?

I used to draw all the time and I could draw quite well if I may say so myself. However due to lots of prior commitments I've been unable to just sit down and draw like I used to. I now have a lot of free time to draw but I am finding it difficult to draw as naturally as I used to if you know what I mean. Does anyone know any decent drawing exercises to get back into drawing after a long absence of drawing?

  • 1980s sci-fi b-movie?

I saw this b-movie on the sci-fi channel about six or seven years ago. It was set on a big space station and the main character was this guy who was competing in some kind of intergalactic fighting or wrestling tournament. It was a bit of a b-movie, filmed in the 1980s I think. Anyone know the name of this film?

  • How does Facebook Investigate reports?

Ok I naively added someone as a friend on facebook who wasn't what they appeared. After adding them I became very suspicious that their account might be a fake for several reasons and when I confronted them about this they responded with abusive messages. I blocked this person but before I blocked them they threatened to get all their friends to report my profile. I didn't use any threatening language to this person. Also my account is not fake, it's three of four years old and has lots of friends and family connections.

Can this person really get all their friends to report me or is this just an idle threat? If the Facebook mods get reports about me can they see I sent them nothing abusive and that they were the one being abusive?

Could someone please shed light into this? I'm a little concerned as I use Facebook to stay in touch with many of my friends and family who now live far away.

  • 1970/80s Sci Fi Cartoon?

I vividly remember a cartoon I used to watch when I was younger and I can remember nearly everything except it's name.

Here are a few things I remember:

It stared 3 guys and a chick wearing futuristic armour and flying space ships. The main guy wore red and white armour and had brown hair. He had this staff weapon thing and he would sometimes stand on the top of his ship to use it. There was another guy in blue armour with black hair and a pony tail. At one point he loses his memory and is enslaved by the bad guys. There is another guy who is big and stocky and wears green armour and flies an orange space ship. The chick wears pink armour. I can't recall if she has a space ship or not and I don't remember her actually fighting much. At one point they fight a giant metal robot dragon.

One of the main bad guys has a funny pink head. He has a massive spherical spaceship that looked like the Deathstar with big prongs on it. At some point the chick convinces the leader of the main villain's men to rebel so the main villain destroys his Deathstar with him on it.

Recalling the style and everything I am pretty certain it was an American adaptation of a Japanese cartoon. I am pretty sure it was from the 70s but it could have been from the 80s. It was very Star Wars esque. I know it is NOT Star Blaze and is NOT Battle of the Planets.

I loved this cartoon and its amazing I remember so many details but I can't for the life of me remember its name. Does this show sound familiar to anyone?

  • 90s Cartoon About Undersea Aliens?

I remember a cartoon I enjoyed when I was a kid but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. It was about aliens (I think they were aliens) living underwater and the main character was a human but when he goes underwater he transforms into an alien. I'm pretty sure it was a 90s cartoon as I recall watching it in the later half of the 90s and the art style seemed inspired by The Abyss. Anyone else remember this show?

  • I wrote a story for a university assignment now I want to publish it?

I wrote a story as part of an assignment for university. The story really grew on me and I have developed it more so and want to publish it as a novel in the future. I was wondering what any if any legal issues there would be. My lecturers says the university technically owns whatever we submit, but they have never heard of any situation where the university has followed up on anyone using something they submitted as part of an assignment. Its not like I even wrote a full story for my assignment, just a plot overview which I now want to turn into a full on novel.

  • Are Muslims offended by depictions of Jesus? (read additional details)?

From what I understand Christianity and Islam are all part of the Abrahamic religions that revere Abraham as the first prophet. Contrary to what some people think, Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, they just think their Muhammad was the last in a long line of prophets starting with Abraham then Moses followed by Jesus then Muhammad.

Muslims revere all the prophets of God/Allah and depicting them is wrong/offensive (why films like Dream Work's The Prince of Egypt was banned in some Muslim countries for depicting Moses). However in Christianity there are a lot of depictions of Jesus and him nailed to a crucifix is a major symbol for the church. Do Muslims find this offensive?

  • Disputes on Pay Pal for broken/not working electronic items?

Ok I purchased something from someone just over a week ago and it arrived today. However it does not work and is not as described when sold. Can I still file a dispute with Pay Pal (which we used)? I have heard of people filling disputes when an item hasn't arrived. My item arrived, but it does not work and the seller listed it as working.

    Thanks
