Why do people from the "Old World" APPEASE Terrorism?

Why do people from the "Old World" APPEASE Terrorism?

This article is intended to be directed toward spinless Europeans and NOT the Brave one's that have, unfortunately, caught a bad name for living on the same land-mass as these morally and intelligently weak individuals. This in particular is NOT directed toward Great Britain (our greatest ally despite the BBC)..

So my question...ah...how do you explain this cowardice and lack of conviction in a just and nobal cause: DEFEATING TERRORISM

I always knew it was, but it took a GERMAN (if you can imagine that..lol) to illustrate this FACT...This is the TRUEST thing you will ever read about the European's method of foreign/world policy.........All I can say is...Thank God for America...and the United Kingdom...(whom is far closer to America than she is Europe)...

(Commentary by Mathias Dapfner CEO, Axel Springer, AG)

A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Weltam Sonntag, "Europe - your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true.

Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound to toothless agreements.

Appeasement legitimized and stabilized Communism in the Soviet Union, then East Germany, then all the rest of Eastern Europe where for decades, inhuman suppressive, murderous governments were glorified as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities.

Appeasement crippled Europe when genocide ran rampant in Kosovo, and even though we had absolute proof of ongoing mass-murder, we Europeans debated and debated and debated, and were still debating when finally the Americans had to come from halfway around the world, into Europe yet again, and do our work for us.

Rather than protecting democracy in the Middle East, European appeasement, camouflaged behind the fuzzy word quidistance,"now countenances suicide bombings in Israel by fundamentalist Palestinians.

Appeasement generates a mentality that allows Europe to ignore nearly 500,000 victims of Saddam's torture and murder machinery and, motivated by the self-righteousness of the peace-movement, has the gall to issue bad grades to George Bush... Even as it is uncovered that the loudest critics of the American action in Iraq made illicit billions, no, TENS of billions, in the corrupt U.N. Oil-for-Food program. And now we are faced with a particularly grotesque form! of appeasement. How is Germany reacting to the escalating violence by Islamic fundamentalists in Holland and elsewhere? By suggesting that we really should have a "Muslim Holiday" in Germany?

I wish I were joking, but I am not. A substantial fraction of our (German) Government, and if the polls are to be believed, the German people, actually believe that creating an Official State "Muslim Holiday" will somehow spare us from the wrath of the fanatical Islamists. One cannot help but recall Britain's Neville Chamberlain waving the laughable treaty signed by Adolph Hitler, and declaring European "Peace in our time". What else has to happen before the European public and its political leadership get it? There is a sort of crusade underway, an especially perfidious crusade consisting of systematic attacks by fanatic Muslims, focused on civilians, directed against our free, open Western societies, and intent upon Western Civilization's utter destruction. It is a conflict that will most likely last longer than any of t he great military conflicts of the last century - a conflict conducted by an enemy that cannot be tamed by "tolerance" and "accommodation" but is actually spurred on by such gestures, which have proven to be, and will always be taken by the Islamists for signs of weakness.

Only two recent American Presidents had the courage needed for anti-appeasement: Reagan and Bush.

His American critics may quibble over the details, but we Europeans know the truth. We saw it first hand: Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War, freeing half of the German people from nearly 50 years of terror and virtual slavery. And Bush, supported only by the Social Democrat Blair, acting on moral conviction, recognized the danger in the Islamic War against democracy. His place in history will have to be evaluated after a number of years have passed. In the meantime, Europe sits back with charismatic self-confidence in the multicultural corner, instead of defending liberal society's values! and being an attractive center of power on the same playing field as the true great powers, America and China.

On the contrary - we Europeans present ourselves, in contrast to those arrogant Americans", as the World Champions of "tolerance", which even (Germany's Interior Minister) Otto Schily justifiably criticizes. Why? Because we're so moral? I fear it's more because we're so materialistic so devoid of a moral compass.

For his policies, Bush risks the fall of the dollar, huge amounts of additional national debt, and a massive and persistent burden on the American economy - because unlike almost all of Europe, Bush realizes what is at stake - literally everything.

While we criticize the "capitalistic robber barons" of America because they seem too sure of their priorities, we timidly defend our Social Welfare systems. Stay out of it! It could get expensive! We'd rather discuss reducing our 35-hour workweek or our dental cover! age, or our 4 weeks of paid vacation... Or listen to TV pastors preach about the need to "reach out to terrorists. To understand and forgive".

These days, Europe reminds me of an old woman who, with shaking hands, frantically hides her last pieces of jewelry when she notices a robber breaking into a neighbor's house.

Appeasement? Europe, thy name is Cowardice.

---God Bless America

That has got to be the best question/statement I have ever seen posted on this site. You didn't hit the nail on the head, you drove home. Being a Canadian, who has lived in Europe for 5 years now, I have become totally disenchanted with the European lifestyle. I find it appaling on so many levels. It is easy to see how Hitler conquered so much of mainland Europe so easily. The majority of Europeans are weak, morally, ethically, in mind and heart. And you are absolutly correct in saying extremist muslims feed on this.

God Bless America and those willing to do what it takes to survive this plauge called terrorism!!

Mr succes...where do you get your facts from. Columbus was Spainsh. Latino's in the US???? There was no such thing as a Latino 500 years ago, not until the Spanish exterminated all the Mayans. The US and Canada was full of Indians (red), but we wern't very nice to them. Chemical weapons were first mass produced in Germany in WW1 and the British began mass producing them and using them in warfare shortly after. The first cyclotron (particle accelerator) were developed at Berkley and Princton in the USA. In fact Ernest Rutherford, Neils Bohr and Einstien all said harnessing nuclear power was remote at best. The first scientitist to bombard uranium with neutrons was Enrico Fermi (Italian), and Germans Hahn and Straussman who first split Uranium into two Barium isotopes, but it was Americans John r Dunning and Alfred Nier who discovered that Uranium-235 was needed and Uranium-238 was useless. It was Jesse Beams who developed and researched the first centrifuge system to separate the Uranium-235, and 238 isotopes. It was yet another group of Americans, Glenn T Seaborg leading the way that noticed another transuranium called element 93, neptunium, decayed into another transuranium called element 94, Plutonium. In short, Europeans may hyave made the initial discoveries, but it was Americas sharing of ideas, teamwork and inginuity that ran with the ball. Europeans were involved but it was a collaboration of ideas. Something the Europeans were not used to, because they always worked alone, to claim credit for themselves alone. America, biggest consumers, absolutely, and Europeans should be happy, because the majority of European export goes to America.

What you think because the UK banned the import of Brazilian Mahogany, that other European countries don't still contribute to the deforestation in South America??? McDonalds??? Are you talking about Brazilian Beef?? That too is exported all over Europe, and what their not allowed to have a growing economy, other than Africa, one of the most poverty stricken continents on earth. Doesn't suprise me coming from a European, wasn't that your philosophy when you all colonized Africa, India, Indoneisa, Austrailia, even America. Europeans have alot more to be held accountable for in Africa than Americans. It was Arab slave traders that took slaves to America and Europe, the whites just bought them.

No Europe didn't invent the assembly line, one of the greatest advances in modern times. But you did invent the industrial revolution, low wages, child labour, exploitation, and when the people got tired of that, what happened, shut down the mills, and mines, and go elsewhere, where you can still exploit the local workforce. How cotton mills in the North of England 500+, how many now..2. Coal industry is dead, destroying thousands of families, but you still import it from countries with no labour laws, minimum wage or safety laws.

And to Brainstorm, Your talking about things during the cold war, have you ever heard the saying, 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' Support the IRA, I don't think you ever heard an American President say "I support the IRA" but Irish Americans supported the IRA. An occupied country. The same as American Jews support Israel. Both these groups have huge sway and pull in American politics.

Humm, an opinion of one person. I of course don't agree with it at all, though I have always been a bit suspect over the ethical record of mainland Europe and Britain, however a lot of Europe does have a plan.

We are of course always trying to make the best of any situation, so while outspoken critics of the US administration, our government still has significant shares in the effort to keep the peace in Afghanistan and training Iraqi police.

Funny if Bush really thinks "everything" is at stake in Iraq- if he did think that way why didn't he at the start do everything to make the road gold-paved for the Iraqis, make a move not only to train police, but doctors, teachers, engineers, plummers and so on. I'm sure with 2 billion a week they could do a lot instead of just patrolling baghdad.

Appeasment has never been a policy, however it is important to separate the political aspect of an extremist group- the methods which they use might be horrible and illegal, but they wouldn't exist if they didn't have a wide support base. It would be foolish to ignore the politics and just "kill insurgents". But I guess the US is doing just that.

Well what a lot of nonsense.

Let's not forget that the USA does not just appease terrorism but actively supports it.

During the 1970s,80s and 90s when the IRA was murdering thousands of civilians and police in Britain and Ireland their main source of support was in the USA, especially New York and Boston. You could walk into any Catholic church over there and see notices about collecting money for the IRA. The St.Patrick Day's parade in New York was one of their main fund raising events. The IRA weapon of choice was the american Armalite rifle not the Kalashnikov. Any terrorist who was wanted by the British knew that if they got to America they would be safe from extradition. All of this was known to the FBI and CIA and various american governments but nothing was ever done about until guess when? That's right when the american trained muslim terrorists flew into the World Trade Center. Since then there has been no violence from the IRA. What a coincidence. The people of New York found out what it was like to be on the receiving end and didn't like it one bit. What a fuss they made.

And the strange thing is it is never mentioned by Bush and Blair as though it's some embarrassing secret. An apology would be nice.

And then, of course, there's Afghanistan during the 1980s where Osama bin Laden set up a training camp in Peshawar in Pakistan to train other arabs to fight the Russians. In this venture he was supported by the CIA and the Saudi intelligence service

who gave him dollars and weapons to arm the mujahadin who were the good guys then. They only became the bad guys when people started calling them the Taleban.

And what was the name of this training camp? Well, it was called Al Qaeda

The americans most notable contribution to the terrorists was to give them 1,000 Stinger surface to air missiles to shoot down russian helicopters and of course the training to use them. This was done with the personal approval of Reagan and it is believed that 500 are still unaccounted for and available to shoot down civil aircraft, of which there has been more than one attempt in recent years.

I could go on about their support for Saddam Hussein,

Iran /Contra, the Bay of Pigs etc. etc. but I'm sure you've got plenty of catching up to do on the topics I've given you.

The one thing you can be sure of is that the USA will always do what's in their best interests and people like you do not even rank as worthy of consideration as far as they are concerned.

Don't forget they didn't join both World Wars until they saw which way the wind was blowing.

Sorry er, Katmandu that really worked for the Dali Lhama huh, turn the other cheek an you get slapped bruv. Quite ironic point of view considering your handle.

Please get over the economics, there has been a battle for complete control from both Christian an Muslim Worlds for time.

It goes back to 1648, well much earlier actually but that was when they were forced out of Europe, its not changed since then. It is a religious conflict, yes many actions contribute and fuel the hate but its about Religion.

Here in the UK we don't appease terrorism. It may have escaped the attention of some the more insular American public that the both the UK and some states in Europe have been fighting groups like the IRA, the Red Army Fraction, the Red Brigades, Black September and various fascist terrorist groups of Italian origin, the Grey Wolves from Turkey and other clandestine groups sponsored by the CIA for years. If you don't believe that the CIA sponsor terrorists google "Operation Gladio" and find out who really bombed the railway station in Bologna as well as attacked Cuban passenger planes. Right-wing "Christian" America - your name is Hypocrisy.

With all due respect We, the west ,particularly The U.S used our power in the United Nations to found the State of ISRAEL, we have taken the Palestinians land away to do that , we now support ISRAEL with money and the finest arms that money can buy to the detriment of the displaced Palestinians and deny them the right to have a homeland of their own, Then, wonder of wonders, we wonder why these ARABS hate our guts.

The Palestinians have very little access to modern weapons so they virtually have to resort to terrorism.

We must also remember that the people that founded ISRAEL were among the worst terrorists in the world , Menachem Begun was responsible for blowing up The King David Hotel in Jeruselem when it was full of British Army dependants

    Dear Yank,

Not only is your country named after the Italian who first discovered it, but the entire culture of your civilisation is firmly grounded in European heritage.

As a "young" country of only 450 years of age, mostly plagued by wars, I find it incredulous that any American would question European wisdom at this time, lets not forget every war since WW2 has involved USA and/or Britain, lets not forget USA produces the bulk of human waste and pollution, lets not forget USA remains the only nation to ever actually use chemical weapons en masse and not to mention nuclear weapons too..

I think Europe understands that terrorism is one of those very long term cyclical things.. which can come about once every hundred or every thousand years.. depending on how global governments conduct themselves.. America is yet to grasp this concept because how can it.. American history is within one cycle! it hasnt existed long enough ot understand.. that if you keep chipping away at people's rights, keep chipping away at every conceivable ounce of justice for the poor and needy, and then further that by adding cospiratory wars to fuel the flames.. and you WILL get terrorism!!

It's a naturla human reaction.. and no amount of control mechanism.. not even microchipping people at birth is going to ever stop it.. the only way to find harmony on Earth.. is through justice and common sense.. if your Mcdonalds is causing poor people in Brazil to loose their villages and forests.. THEN stop eating damn Mcdonalds!! stop producing it!!

Europe did not invent mass marketing, nor mass production of low quality products.. Europe has many problems.. many created by American companies disposing Africans and Middle Easterners.. who then end up on Europena streets.. And we keep hearing about your Mexican problems.. and migrant issues.. well America was built in an area that was 100% latino only 500 years ago!!

Europe now has a massive influx of Africans and other poor nations.. who have beenb completely pushed out of their country.. often by American companys too..

America has also racked up a $7,000,000,000,000 foreign debt.. which is costing over $1,000,000,000 in interest daily!!!

And lets not forget.. most of America's "ingenuity" including atomic energy.. came from EUROPE!! I should know.. the Von Browns were close friend of my grandfather..

So shove that in your pipe and smoke it

Terrorism is an act of violence as in all acts of war. You can only win a battle against an act of violence by not committing any acts in return, AKA by "turning the other cheek". Didn't Jesus say to do just that? To use the politically correct definition of terrorism or a terrorist act, that is an act of warfare conducted outside the scope of known practices of warfare. There is no way to win a war against an act of violence with more violence. The way to win is to stop doing the things that bring on such acts. The Muslims don't hate your freedom, they hate your oppression of their people for oil.

And not forgetting the Americans slaughtered the old, young, and disabled Red Indians in order to steal their land.

Provided guns and money to terrorists including the I.R.A to bomb mainland Britain.

Came to help Britain near the END of the second world war.

You sound like a typical German Warmonger.

Here's a better question: Why does the United States, by it's economic choices and it's direct military actions, encourage terrorism?
