why has weight become such a huge problem in this world?
we're focussed more than ever on fitness, exercise, diets and low fat everything etc... but the average weight of people continues to go up and up and many are morbidly obese.
so strange.

to my knowledge its mainly the USA and other countries who share a similar lifestyle. Our nations culture is so fast paced and the emphasis is put on work and output and people eat more to relieve stress and more because other reasons. Also, the nation serves way over the portion size and now the consumers are used to higher proportions. I think higher proportions of food intake, more processed foods, easier access to foods, not having to move around as much since we have machines to do our work for us, and a high paced stressful lifestyle contribute to the weight problem. Our entire culture is going to have to change!

Sugar, sugar, sugar. High Fructose Corn Syrup to be precise. While this isn't the only culprit (portions, exercise, video/internet/tv, etc..) it is a huge problem that has invaded most of our foods. Basically it is a cheaper way for the food industry to sweeten their products. Look at the ingredients when you purchase your foods. If its in the top five, don't get it. MOST of your fruit juices and soda have this in it. It is a potent sweetner that triggers a fat storing response in your brain yet leaves you craving more. Even a lot of your "healthy" breads (yes even whole grain types) are made with HFCS. Due a little research and you will be surprised.
Shader, people from the south are not quite the ignorant, child abusing people you make us out to be. I'm a southern living in Portland, Or and find that even though I'm supposedly living in one of the healthiest cities, I see as many obese people here than I do at home. I assure you its a nationwide problem.

World is changing, food is changing. Before there was no so many junk-food store. Now you have them almost in every part of the planet. Also with developing of Internet, mobile communications, cars, people don't walk, they do everything from the chair.
People who really cares themselves and exercising don't have problems with overweight, but many are to lazy or just don't have enough of "moral fiber" to keep up with diet and secretly eat candy-bar or two. When all that comes together you get a chubby world :)

It's mainly a problem with developed countries. The pace of life in such countries makes people less active physically. Besides there is the issue of car owners that drive everywhere instead of walking like in other lean countries. We are so used to take our car to the corner store instead of just walking.
The food portion size is another problem. Besides everything you buy at the grocery store is fashioned to get you overweight. If you live alone, do you really need to buy a dozen eggs? They will get old and bad before you consciously eat them (like one every 3 days).

Bc fast food is bad and ppl still eat it b/c of convenience. America is the fattest continent in the world and ppl die everyday in other places from starvation. It's pretty horrible.
I would have to say that alot of people, ESPECIALLY in the south, don't care about health. They eat whatever they want, feed their kids exactly what they are eating, so they get fat as well. Their parents don't care about being healthy, so the kids never realize how unhealthy they are until it's usually too late, so the down spiral begins.
And I don't think that kids play outside anymore. It's all about the computer, video games, or just being lazy... sad.

It's because strict diets end up making people fatter. They lose the weight, and then when they start eating normally, they gain all the weight back and more.
Healthy eating and regular exercise is the only way to go. People need to chill out.

i say its because people are so busy now in days that they dont have time to prepare a healthy meal. So fast food restaurants are their only choice.
And we all know that eating healthy is more expensive than a regular cheeseburger.
In todays society people work and work and work compared to other countries..
American is actualy knowen for being workaholics!....that means less time available....and people gotta eat
You may also say lazyness is part of the problem.

Because everyone is so busy trying to make a living they don't have much time to cook good food, and fast/convenience food is mostly fat, salt, and carbs. A good deal of healthy food is also more expensive than convenience food, even though it's less nutritious. So it takes time and/or money to eat well.

No costly, the only people who've ever theory that the U. S. became into the appropriate united states of america in the international are....individuals. you're of course only very ignorant with reference to the international exterior of the U. S.. Many, many countries have 'freedom, democracy, liberty and possibility', which contain maximum of Europe, Australia, Japan, and so on. only misinformed individuals who've by no ability left their own united states of america have self assurance the ridiculous and fairly incorrect rhetoric you adult men have pumped into you from start which you are the only united states of america in the international with freedom. possibly you're able to get a passport and are available across the international for your self in the past judging some thing you have by no ability experienced?
