Strange behavior - spayed cat humping arm?

My friend has got an older cat which started to exhibit weird behavior. It's never been a cuddly cat but lately she started sniff her arm, gently biting and then goes on humping the arm.

The cat has been spayed long time ago.

Anyone got an idea why is she doing this?

its quite possible that it could be the perfume, deodrant, soap etc that she is using which is making the cat act like this. my cat also does this but only when i have been cleaning and she smells the chemicals i use. so it could just be the scent which makes her go a bit daft...

Ever heard of an incomplete spay? Basically it means that the spay was botched. Spay, or ovario-hysterectomy removes both the uterus and the ovaries. If some part of this was missed, it could account for this weird behaviour. But normally a cat in heat would yowl, not hump. Could be something else entirely, but thought I'd let you know.

Is she really humping her arm or is she trying to massage her tummy on her arm. My spayed female cats love to get their tummy messaged. The scar irritates them and to comfort it they like to be rubbed. It could also be adhesions growing from the scar are itching. She may want to have kitty checked by the vet, being that this is a new behavior.

Your cat is clearly day dreaming about what could have been, let him dream that he still has his cocktail wiener before he is snapped back to the hell that is his daily reality. Let him go-to town, somewhere private and sanitary like a maxi pad or the bathroom send in there with a cat fancy and never make him ashamed ,never!!!!

I agree that it's partly normal. I have my tubes tied but I still like to ... I would still check with a vet in case there is a medical issue that should be addressed. Especially if the cat's urine smells bad (worse than normal).

i have a 6 years old female who is fixed.. and she's always been a loner.. now she's loving everyone.. cats personalities change as do ours... if it's one perticular person she's doing this to.. it might just be that she's taking a liking to them for what ever reason.. the nibbling and clawing and "humping" as you call it.. lol.. what cats do before they lay down is kind of knead they area they are laying in.. they grab up the blanket or whatever in there mouth and kind of knead it with their claws.. they are just making it more comfortable.. when they do it to people... it's what they would do to other cats.. kind of like how monkeys pick eachother.. cats knead eachother.. she's just letting you know she likes you.. nothing to worry about... =)

Maybe your cat is feeling a little lonely. Anything against getting another cat? Maybe she wants some attention or her belly rubbed?

Well it depends when you got him\her fixed. If it was recently, then no worries! All cats want to mate right after surgery and if it was a while ago then take it to the vet.

humping your arm is not a sexual thing. The animal is trying to show dominance.

You find this in dogs as well.

I have no idea, but my spayed cat does this to my leg whenever I wear my mango scented lotion.
