How can Christians hold the Bible as 'God's true word' ......?

Since there is evidence that in 140 A.D a man named Marcion, put together a Bible that rejected the Old Testament. He then rewrote a lot of the New Testament. Which motivated the church leaders to make a decision to officially recognize what books made up the New Testament Canon?

Follow-up questions::

And IF you think about it, isn't there a possiblity that these men are just like you and I. They let personal opinions and ideals influence what they say and write?

So, is that literary work still the "true" word of God or is it the word of god "according to a few select and priviledged men"?

The christian and Hebrew bibles are not the same, neither are their gods. Christians can only hold the bible as the true word of a bunch of liars who hijacked Judaism and mixed in their Pagan and Mithra mystery religions beliefs.

Well since we still have and use the Old Testament, whatever that guy may have done didn't stick. People definitely have tried to change the Bible to promote their own agendas but that doesnt stick either. Did you notice that the only person the Bible really promotes is Jesus? It doesn't bring the focus away from Him. Doesn't make His Apostles "saintly" (in the common use of the word) or Holy. When groups change the Bible (or add to it) they bring focus to themselves, a mortal human or their organization. Examples: The Jehovah's Witnesses New World Translation, The LDS Book of Mormon and the Catholic Catechism, The Muslim Qu'ran.

Unlike these other books, the Bible only elivates Jesus as "Holy" not the men in that religion.

First of all you are wrong about Marcion rewriting the New Testament but you are right about him wanting to reject the old writings.

However, this is further compounded by the fact that the convention of King James which included the best scholars of the time were the ones who relly went to town on the Bible.

It's so different from the writings which were already full of conjecture and mythology.

one way of finding at it may be to assert that the Bible replaced into written with the aid of guy, who's fallible, consequently it stands to reason that factors of the Bible are additionally incorrect or open to broader interpretation. If the Bible replaced into written with the aid of guy (which, i think of we are in a position to accurately anticipate a minimum of for the hot testomony is authentic) then it fairly is greater guy's recognize-how of the certainty of God than the rather fact itself. through fact the Bible is produced from the comments and insights of many diverse men then the thought each physique Christians hate homosexuals is incorrect in its premise on account that, as i've got reported above, it isn't the actual fact however the certainty as those men who wrote it down observed it. So some Christians would study the Bible as asserting that and others will possibly not. i think of that Gods observe relies upon on the guy who hears it. it rather is like chinese language whispers-the tip message is many times very diverse from the single on the initiating. look on the observe of Jesus Christ, as an occasion, who hated faith profiting off the message of God yet who now has many followers advertising little plastic collectible figurines of him with a view to 'unfold the affection'. i think of that has sort of skewed the unique message. 'm not a Christian with the aid of the way, i'm purely attempting to state the argument in a rational and non-partisan way. :)

Well, theres no doubt that the Bible was written by man; it contains several grammar mistakes as well as the point of view shifts continuously.

It's much like a biography, really; the books inside of the Bible are written, for example, like "The Gospel of Matthew according to so and so", which really leaves no room to believe that it was written by any other being than man...

Also, the divinity of Jesus was created by man at what was called the Council of Nicaea (hence the "Nicene Creed"), where a caucus of men sat and debated what should and what shouldn't go into the bible. Before the Council, Jesus was just a man like you and I, but afterwards he became a God, and launched Christianity into, what I consider, polytheism.

  • I think that was the reasoning behind using many to form the canonizing committee. All had to be in agreement of what books/texts were to be allowed in. There were lots of people writing in the first century, and many were writing lies. They had to weed out the bologna and leave in God's inspired word.

Argue all you want, but the bible is the only book that will change you when you read it, and as you grow in wisdom, or age, your understanding will deepen. It's like treasure, and we should all be reading it.

well, just like any other story it was passed down through word of mouth then eventually written down.

It was confermed that the Dead Sea scrolls (which are thousands of years old and were lost for thousands of year) match today's Bible by 90%. If you ask me that's a pretty big deal.

Because it has been 100% accurate in all its' prophesies. No human book or religious texts compare in the slightest. And you haven't done your homework on the original manuscripts and the false ones or you wouldn't have bothered with the other silly comment.

it is written by people who Knew Jesus (at least in the New Testament). it is also written from oral histories, as generation to generation told stories of their ancestors.

i think, in the end, all of us need to Read it and Study it as a TEXT, and glean out of it, using common sense, what Makes Sense to you and how to apply the Positive Messages to your life.

the thing is, most of it is common sense. take the 10 commandments. take Jesus' parables. all of them point to common wisdom of what is 'best' in those situations, and u can interpret them for many different causes and ways, and yet they still have Great teachings.

it's not about believing one thing or not is "correct" cuz it was written back then.... i think it's making a choice to study what is ultimately Good, Right, Decent, and Positive. whatever religion or book you read, decipher for Yourself what makes sense, what is Good, what is Healthy, and Wise.

    good luck

There are parts of the bible that were not used when the bible you see today was formed. They normally said weird stuff like Jesus turned his bullies into donkys as a child
