Wesboro Baptist Church is protesting Pres. Hinkley's funeral....?

according to the Deseret News. "Lying False Prophet" and "Hinkley in Hell" are supposed to be just a couple of the posters they are going to display. First of all, this does not sound very Christian at all nor dignified, and why do the Baptists of this church feel a need to protest a dead man? I wonder if they have the guts to protest in front of a Mosque and tell the Muslims they worship a false prophet that leads people astray. I doubt it. It's fashionable to throw stones at Mormons. Looks to me like they are going for the easy target.

Update:

Man on a Mission: Thanks for the heads up about the youtube site.

cutyy007: I couldn't agree with you more!

RAC: Point well made.

Yoda Duck: I too would pay big bucks to see that. LOL

Chaos: My thoughts exactly.

I agree that they somehow have deluded themselves into thinking that they will sway some away from the LDS faith and "save" them with their very non-Christian approach to this memorial event for Pres. Hinckley. I have seen the Presidency of the Church give many gracious regards when the leaders of other churches have passed away. Why can't these so called "Christian" activists do likewise? Such a protest is singularly inappropriate.

The comments about picking a soft target because they know that we will not strike back seem accurate.

In addition to the other posters: The Old Testament, The Septuagint [translated from Hebrew to Greek somewhere 250 BC] was in placed at that time, used even before Jesus' time. The New Testament was written 35-100 AD and translated to latin by St Jerome, sometimes 400 AD. It is still on parchments and read in the church, or preached orally. So, there IS NO NEW TESTAMENTS IN A BOOK/BIBLE FORM AT THAT TIME compiled with Septuagint.' Bible alone' theory is not in existence at that time as there is NO BOOK to call bible. It was the use of Oral Tradition up until 1400 when the 'compiled book form bible' finally hit the printing press. In other words, it took the Catholic Church about 400 years of gathering, editing, and sorting the ancient manuscripts and got printed in 1400. There were also a lot of uninspired writings [apocryphal books] that were floating around that were not cannonized.

I said in another question this morning that I think that Phelps guy is secretly gay and just doesn't want to admit it.

Yoda's Duck- you must be referring to what we talked about yesterday.. all that hate has to taint their souls.

I guess they have protested at mosques as well as soldiers funerals, and they have protested at different stores that sell things made by certain countries. Sweden is a favorite target for them. I guess God hates everyone but them. They don't even like America!!!! They live here, so shut up and deal!!! If you don't like how the country is run, leave. No one is forcing them to stay here.

K.. now that my rant is over... I really feel like they can protest as much as they want. Doesn't change my feelings or what I believe. They can be as hate filled as they want to be. They will get what's coming to them eventually. I kinda hope I'm there to witness it, and to stand against them when the time comes.

The members of wbc are a group of nasty, homosexually obsessed men and women. They picket military funerals and praise God for killing American soldiers. A large group of veterans will now show up at military funerals and position themselves between the mourners and the wbc in an attempt to keep the wbc at a distance.

Phelps and his family are not interested in converting anyone they just want to be heard. Their message is one of cruelty and abuse in the name of a monster they call "God".

The GOOD thing they have done is to unite a widely diverse group of people to oppose them.

This particular "church" enjoys the fact that people hate them. The feel justified in what they are doing when people persecute them.

I feel very sad for these individuals. Mostly because their lives are so filled with hate and malice that they don't see that they are being used by the adversary to break the commandments. Love God and Love your neighbor. They are forgetting the verses that say to rebuke with love. They are forgetting that when you do evil in the name of God you are taking the name of the Lord God in vain.

They are forgetting that even though Jesus hated some of the things that people did...he didn't slander or call names...he taught them and loved them. Despite what they say at times, I see no love for anyone with them...and it makes me sad. I will pray for them.

Anyone who would protest at a mans funeral is disgusting. You dont have to agree with Gordon B Hinkley's religion, but this man never harmed anyone, ar committed and crimes. He was a good man.

I heard that. I went to their web site, and found that they're so hate-filled that I suspect their spirits are horribly cankered and..... I don't know- how can anyone stay mentally stable with that kind of hate rolling around in their head/heart????

    Edit--

Man on a Mission, and Big R--- what say we combine your ideas?... Get all the missionaries outa the MTC, bus them over to the funeral and direct them all to go over and hug the WBC!.... I'd pay big $$ to see that!!!

Is it? I had a statement of condolences I wrote removed from answers because I said that according to Hinckley we don't worship the same Jesus or have the same Gospel..

I am not saying I agree with Westboro, I don't and I call their works into question that should manifest saving save, from what I can see only manifest hate.. It's not like pointing out the errors of mormonism in a discussion. After all mormons send their missionaries into the world to point out the error they see in the sects of Christianity.. Westborb is not going about with love as their motive.. I have no idea what they are trying to prove.. IHS Jim

We will never evolve into a race of people that will allow each and every person to have a religion that we worship be O.K. in others minds. If it is not our religion, then it is evil and everyone who is not of our chosen religion will go to hell. Barbaric is the word that still comes to mind, and sad.

  • I really don't like this church. It has twisted views, and then have the nerve to call other people hypocrites.

They are just looking for non violent publicity. Because if they pulled that with more aggressive groups, they would get a lesson worth learning.
