Should I leave the bell on my cat's collar?

I just adopted a couple of cats and getting ready to put the ID tags on their new collars. Are most cats uncomfortable and irritated by the bells on collars? I might remove it, but want your input.

Your cats will get used to it. Our cats acted weird for a bit when I put their collars on, but I think that would be the case no matter what.

The bell is nice because I can hear where they are in the house.

I have 12 indoor cats! One of them has no ball in his "hip socket"....broke / removed.

I put a bell on his collar, so that I'd always know if he was "underfoot". It's worked out great, he doesn't seem to mind (been on there for 9 yrs), and I always know "which" cat is sneaking up behind me! :-)

You could bell one and not the other.....and you'd be able to hear which was which, too.

Good luck with your new "babies". Are they spayed / neutered, yet?

I can only speak from my own experience. At Christmastime I was wearing some felt reindeer antlers with jingle bells at the office party and after only about a couple of hours I was about to go NUTS from the jingling. Couldn't imagine not being able to take it off, and vowed never to bell a cat again.

It could be dangerous if he tries to eat it. Make sure you

adjust the collar as the cat grows. I knew someone who

didn`t check the collar and the dog chocked to death. I

didn`t use collars with my cats. But they were inside cats.

They are good if the cat goes out doors.

Well with the bell hanging my cat just starts walking backwards. It looks very funny but he gets distressed; so I removed the bell and put the tag with his name and my phone number instead.

I take them off because they irritate me! The cat doesn't seem to notice too much, but i tend to wake easily and don't like to hear the little ringing in the middle of the night.

you can leave the bells on, they'll get used to them (even if they insist otherwise) with a little time. They always put up a fight with new things in their lives, they will get used to it.

Thank you for adopting them, and giving them a chance for a long life.

It depends, if your cats are outdoors, you will want to leave the bells on to warn animals away.
