I've eaten less and exercised more. Why have I gained weight?

I am a recovered anorexic, and I'm now a healthy weight. Still, I want to lose about twenty pounds. I need to be really careful, though, because I don't want to relapse. I started eating less and exercising more, but I gained. I don't understand. I'm doing everything people say to do to lose weight, but I gained. Do I need to starve myself again to lose? Someone please explain this to me.

No.. starvation kills muscle, and muscle is what you need to feel healthy and burn calories. If you are at a healthy weight, and you want to remain a recovered anorexic, you might want to look into why you feel you need to lose 20 pounds. 20 pounds down from a healthy weight will most likely put you back at an UNhealthy weight.

You've accomplished something very difficult and important - do you want to lose that accomplishment?

I bet that your weight gain is your body regaining the muscle and fluids that you lost during your anorexia.

Try enjoying a more toned appearance, rather than an uber-skinny appearance. I bet people around you think you look MARVELOUS!

This could be water weight, muscle gain, after a meal, dependent on what you were wearing etc etc... the point is that the scale is not the best judge, your weight is going to fluctuate by a few pounds here and there.

Go by the mirror, a measuring tape and how loose your clothes are. That's the correct way to judge whether or not you're losing fat.

Eat often, small and healthily and keep up the exercise.

Well, if you haven't been eating breakfast then your metabolism slows down and you simply gain faster.

Do not starve yourself, it's really unhealthy. If you want to loose some pounds then simply eat healthy and exercise about 30 minutes a day.

Don't eat any junk food or candy. Eat the regular amount and the right stuff. Remember starving yourself is the last thing you should do

    Good luck~ :D

If you are working out with weights you can gain muscle not fat and that will make your weight go up, but if you dont notice it in your clothes, it's a good thing. You should actually eat more. Do not starve yourself again. You want to be healthy. Good luck

No anorexia should never be used to lose weight. You will start losing weight soon if you keep doing what your doing. At the beginning of a journey like this your body shifts your weight and can make it look like you gained more. Just keep doing what your doing and after the weight shifts then you will start losing weight. Don't relapse. You've done great and made it this far. Goodluck!

Starving does not mean that you are loosing weight. But actually this way, you will gain more weight, because when its time eat for you, you will eat entire platefull of meal.

Do not do what people say. Get the the help of expert people of this field. Drink lots of water. Do not skip any meal specially breakfast. i am not telling you to eat,eat and eat but you should know that you need to eat healthy.

    Take care.

If you are now a healthy weight why do you need to lose another 20lb? Dont starve yourself and the reason you have gained weight is simply that muscle is heavier than fat.

It's true that we gain weight when we eat more than we can burn off. But this conventional diet wisdom does not always hold true. Weight gain can also be caused by health conditions such as:

    1) poor eating habits (high-carbohydrate, high-calorie diet)

    2) emotional factors such as guilt, depression, and anxiety

    3) slower metabolism, which is normal with aging

    4) smoking cessation

    5) alcohol consumption

    6) hypothyroidism, primary

    7) endocrine disorders including Cushing's syndrome or polycystic ovary syndrome

    8) drugs such as corticosteroids, cyproheptadine, lithium, tranquilizers, phenothiazines, and tricyclic antidepressants

    9) medications that increase fluid retention and cause edema (abnormal pooling of fluids in the tissues)

In my case, my unexplained weight gain was caused by my thyroid problem. You might want to consider asking your doctor to perform blood test to check if your thyroid is performing properly.

Exercise is increasing your muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Don't go by the scales -- go by the tape measure. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so the more muscle you accumulate the more calories you use just sitting in front of the TV. Too many people used to stop exercising because of this initial weight gain.

Muscle weights more then fat , so thats why you proly think you weight more, and eating less will not help, i lost 25 pounds by excercising and eating 3 meals a day drinking lots of water and cutting salt out of my diet as much as i could, good luck
