How much salt did you put in the batter?
Since the batter is already made, go ahead and bake it the way it is. Things taste entirely different when they're raw from when they're cooked. It may not taste salty at all once you bake it. Even if it does, you're only out a few cents in gas or electric. That would be far less waste than if you throw out the batter when it might have turned out delicious once it's baked.

Is it possible you put salt instead of sugar in the batter? Very easy to do if they are in a similar looking container and are not labeled.
The saltiness may also be coming from your butter or margarine. Use unsalted butter (basically sweet cream butter) for all baking recipes.

you either have to start over, or multiple the base by about 4 times - making 5 cakes worth of batter

peel a potato and throw it in the batter for 15 min. then remove it and continue. them potato absorbs all the salt in the batter. this works well with all types of salty mistakes.

How much did you put in it? Throw it out and start over, nothing you can do to fix it now.
