My 2009 federal tax return was accepted by the IRS on 1/18/10. I went to check my refund status...?
And the message the 'Where's my refund' site keeps giving me is sorry we cannot provide any information regarding your return. It's been saying the same thing for days now. So how am I supposed to know when my refund will be direct deposited????

If it makes you feel any better mine was accepted on the 16th and I get the same message. No info, even when calling 800-829-4477, nothing. From what I've heard they don't plan on updating the site again until Monday 1/25 so yours may have been processed but it just won't show up until then. I'm hoping.
In Response to the post below mine. That is not true. So you met the deadline? Doesn't mean the IRS won't find a problem and delay it. Seen it happen more than once.

OH man, I am glad I'm not the only one!!! I efiled January 15, my return was accepted January 17. I wouldn't have been so nervous if it weren't for the fact that I processed a friends tax return 2 days AFTER mine, and she got her refund TODAY. The "where's my refund" IRS site still shows NOTHING on mine. I started thinking about so many things that could be affecting my return, like I changed my name mid year, but everything is updated, social security, my w-2, etc. I am desperate for this cash as I have to use it to hire a lawyer and pay off some debt...I hope the money comes soon. At least if the website showed that my return was being processed, I would feel soooo much better!

PER the IRS website Refund Cycle Chart the first round of direct deposit will be Jan 29th.
Forget calling it is too soon to call. IRS will not have information at this time, IRS won't have information until at least 2 more weeks from today. DON'T check the wheres my refund more than once per day and only once per week. The systems are only updated on weekends.
If you don't receive your refund by Feb 15th then you can call IRS refund Inquiry department at 1-800-829-1954.
But for now, relax, have patience. This year make changes to your withholding by providing your employer with a W4 withholding allowance, visit IRS website www.irs.gov and use the withholding calculator to help you figure out how many to claim on your w4, to where you won't be due a refund or owe IRS. you won't have to hassle with wondering when you will get the refund, which the government has earned interest on your money, and of course you don't get the interest earned. The government ends up with free money.
Good luck

In response to the Thursday 11 am deadline, I know for a fact this is true. I worked for the IRS for 10 years and the last 2 years I worked in employee e-file dept. I saw people cut throats to get their return in by 11 because THAT IS THE cut off to get it back by the next Friday. Also, if it is accepted, UNLESS THE MATH is wrong, you will get your return when scheduled. I do know the website updates on Monday night and I think that since MLK day fell on Monday, nothing will update until Monday the 25th. Hope this dispels rumors and quiets some nerves!!!

I'm with the lady above me filed on 1/20 accepted on 1/21 and the irs site this morning said Feb 2 unless problems or other taxes. I have EIC so people that think that is the problem are wrong. I used Taxslayer to prepare.

I filed on Wendsday 01/20/10 and when I check my status it says We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 2, 2010.

relax already
January 29th will probably be the earliest anyone gets a refund
why would you expect it the first week of tax return processing? they have never been any quicker than the 2nd Friday after you file - that's when I got mine the past few years

did you claim EIC on your return? maybe the delays have to do with the irs rechecking eic refunds?? i don't know but this is the first time ive had this problem too well good luck to you and i hope we all get our refunds on time and get to enjoy our hard earned money
