Can I make a cake without oil?

I bought a cake mix that requires 1/3 cup of oil, stupid me didn't relize that we don't have oil, I just laid my son down for a nap so going to the store is out of the question, can I substitute anything (besides applesauce, of couse I don't have that either) so that I can have this cake made on time?

thanks in advance!

Instead of oil, you can substitute with one of the following:

    butter

    margarine

    lard

    shortening

mayo (sounds weird, but it's almost made entirely of oil)

I've even heard of people using sodas and diet soda's for great tasting (although dense and crumbly) cakes.

    Good luck!

Melt 1/3 cup of butter. Add that in place of the oil.

Sadly I have not heard any other subs for oil, other than oil or applesauce. I would say ask a neighbor to borrow a cup of oil

You could melt butter or margarine and then allow it to cool to the touch. Mix it into the batter.

melted butter would probably be best as you get more flavour and taste!!
