What is your greatest passion as a writer?
I recently asked on here "What is your greatest flaw and strength as a write". I got a lot of amazing answers. But I have another one along the same lines. What is your greatest passion as a writer?
I mean, why is it that you write? What is it about the written word that drives you? That thing that makes you say to yourself, "I need to put that on paper, because someone will want to read that?"
I think that without passion, and without zeal in our writing, we're simply putting words on a page and hoping someone will like it. If you have passion, drive, and zeal, you are now writing to tell a story or to improve someones life. You're now writing with a purpose. I believe that in all forms of writing, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc, that are written with passionate hand are more meaningful. And people can tell the difference. So, if you don't mind sharing, what are some of your passions, why do you write what you write?
Personally, I have a few passions. The first would be to tell stories that have not been done before. I love to think outside of the box. A brand new idea sparks passion in me to the point where I HAVE to write it down. I may not work on it for a while due to other projects, but I at least put down my thoughts and save them for later. Every now and then I go back to my files where I keep my story ideas and look through them, and I think, "Wow, I really want to work on these someday, because it's new and exciting and never been done before." Second of all, I'm passionate about science fiction, the reason being because there is no limit to how far the imagination can go. I love to share my stories of new worlds to people. It's what drives me.

my passion... well, it started awhile ago on accident. i had this stupid idea one day and typed it. at the time, i wanted to be a doctor, then a lawyer, then a teacher, then a doctor again. :) i couldn't seem to truly care about any of them, though. eventually, i started reading paranormal romance books, and found my love. i adore writing romance than has some sort of otherworldly power in it. if you don't write that, you won't understand since most people look down on the fantasy writers and the romance writers. combined? even worse. but it's what i love. i love getting ideas, putting them on paper, re-reading it and thinking "wow, i wrote that. and it doesn't suck." i amazes me still. i want my writing to touch someone, to make them feel good for that few hours as they read, like my favorite authors did for me. i want just one person to feel like they can do what they want, because i'm going to do what i want thanks to my authors. hopefully, i do that because that's why i write.
and, of course, i love putting my thoughts down. getting to express those feelings i wouldn't normally say out loud into one of my characters. bad childhood? now so does my character. hard day? my character did too. funny story? so did my character.
its a way to vent and help people at the same time. THAT'S why i write.

I have always been a story teller ever since I was a little girl. Just within the past few years have I started actually writing them down in the form of a book.
I guess I write because it's an escape from reality. It's a way to release feelings on paper and feel like you are in control of what happens for once.
One thing that I've noticed throughout my writing is that I always seem to portray the father character as someone for the reader to despise or question. I think that's based off my opinions of my own dad. He did a lot to me throughout my life and I just can't seem to let it go. This is a way to almost tell everyone who reads it, how I feel. It gets my thoughts out there into the world and maybe someday my dad will read it and realize just how much he hurt me. Just how much he ruined my future and made me worry.
My goal is that every story I ever tell or write, has a purpose. I want people to learn from them. I want readers to start thinking about things they never paid attention to before like - how much time do we have? How great is the fear of the unknown? Where do you gather your ideas and opinions on life? Are those ideas your own? Do they really make sense to you or did someone else plant them inside your head?
I want people to accept things that have happened and use them to their advantage. I want my readers to never take anything for granted.
I don't know, I'll quit rambling :P Writing means a lot to me and I just want my writing to mean a lot to everyone else too.

Movies drive me. I actually just got back from watching the remake of Karate Kid. While I only give the movie 3 out of 5 stars, I am still really juiced up by the effects, sounds, angles, and actors. When I see a movie, all I can think is "I want someone to feel this while they're reading something of mine!" Movies are thrill and excitement.
So, I want to make someone feel that, and that's my drive. A number one reason why I have constant writer's block. That's a lot to live up to and I just keep having denial I won't improve. Oh well, as long as I have the passion.
Also creativity and originality. I love it when I see a movie that's original & interesting. These two are very important.

When I write I like to make people feel different emotions, or think about things from different perspectives
Also for me its all about the atmosphere, if I can create a world within a book that a reader can be totally absorbed and taken in by then I'm happy :D

I write to appease the little people in my head. aka my characters. lol Seriously, I have no idea what propels me to write. Only that I love sharing my stories and that my characters are so real to me they talk to me, and I'm up at night with scenes running through my mind. I love creating the characters and watching their stories unfold. I love reading over that story and knowing I wrote that and hey, it's actually kind of good. It makes me feel proud. I've never been good at anything. But mostly... yeah. I love to share the stories in my head with other people.

I agree that writing without passion isn't writing, it's merely typing, with an homage to Truman Capote.
Since my own peculiar passion is history, I like to write about the times during which major historic events were occurring, but from the point of view of very ordinary people. You may find major historical characters referred to in my writing, but you won't find them acting on my stage. I don't write about policy makers or power brokers, but of the people who were affected by the larger events for either good or ill.
To this end, I look to my own friends and family and ask myself "How would X, Y, or Z react to these events? Would he or she support the status quo, or would they be pushing for a change? How would this affect them if they were farmers, businesspeople, or artisans?"
The events themselves can be found in history books; I simply like to put it in terms of the ordinary folk who ended up paying for it, some with their lifeblood and others through various other economic, social, or political hardships.

I like the mental release it gives me. It's like a therapeutic exercise, and my favorite part about writing is creating these people in my head with their own names, past, backgrounds, nicknames, personalities and I feel like I'm apart of each character.
