is it okay to leave an already prepared bean soup on the stove overnight?
long story short, due to the weather, people who were supposed to get home today were not able to make it and the beans had already been started. We don't have room for it in the refrigerator and would like to know if it would be okay to leave it on the stove (on low) overnight. Thanks!

In this weather, you can use your garage or deck or balcony or just outside the door as an extra refrigerator. That would be safer than leaving your soup at room temperature when bacteria could form. So just cover the soup pot with foil if it doesn't have a lid and place it in a cold spot.

I have left food out on the stove before overnight (beans, soups, rice...) and it was ok the next day. I wouldn't do it with meats though.
I should say this has happened in the winter time when my house was a cold(er) and then I made sure to heat up my food for a while to kill whatever, if anything, was growing in it.
* I didn't leave it with the heat on BTW

Are they done cooking? I would not leave them on the stove cookin even on low because beans will burn and dry out. If they are done I would just put the pot in the garage on the deck in the cellar.( if you have bears umm in the car? If you want to keep it warm, use the trick our grandma's used. If you have a gas grill put a pie plate upside down on top of the burner and then your pot on top. you will have a super simmerer. If you have electric I would def add more water and put it on the very lowest switch, or how about throwing it into your crock pot on low? All of the rules say never eat anything that has been out for so many hours depending on the food. I say throw it in the car.

I would not feel comfortable leaving anything on the stove burner overnight. Hopefully, you have a crock pot or can borrow one you can keep the beans heated safely. Or prepare your full recipe for the crock pot and have the beans ready in the morning.
It sounds very cold where you live. You can put them outside and they should be fine - covered of course.

rather than leaving it on the stove on low, if you have a crock pot, dump it in there and keep it on low. The stove will evaporate the water by morning and the bottom of the pan will be scorched.

it would be best to just cover the pot that it's in and then leave it on the stove but leave the stove off because that is a great fire hazard and your house could catch on fire =(

Cover....turn off the heat...it will be fine tomorrow...Just bring it to a boil when ready to eat...
Or
If you don't have a crock pot and just want to keep them warm...If the pan the beans are in is oven proof...then put them in the oven ...But I wouldn't leave a burner on all night...
Hope this helps....

If it has no meat in it, I would say yes.
But if there is meat, even if the stock is meat based, I would say not.
In actuality, either way it will probably be ok. My grandma grew up during the depression and she eats really old food so it doesn't go to waste. She never gets sick. We grew up that way too and never got sick.
But better safe than sorry!
