How long do cats live i wonder?

My cat is really old and I wonder if cats out live dogs because she has out lived alot of dogs we had. and she out lived our other cat who passed last summer. She was sick or something last week . I noticed she couldn't hardly stand up to walk . but the first thing i noticed she wasn't coming to the door and meowing for me to let her inside like she normally does. then i went to find her and she could hardly walk so i end taking her to the vet. He gave her a shot of steroids or something and gave me more shots to give her at home. so now she is much better and doing good and i am so thankful! he said she may live for one more year. I wish she could live longer though. she is special to me because she belonged to my daughter who passed at age 16 in 1996 . so i feel I have a special bond with her so that's why i want to keep her around as long as possible. its gonna be hard to let her go . but I know she is just so old bless her little heart. she is a calico cat and so pretty. and even my spouse said she's not like other cats! She is so different and smart too. well i don't want another cat it hurts to loose one. and we have decided we don't want anymore pets when all of ours is gone. My spouse saids I don't need any more cause I take it hard when I loose one. he doesn't like to see me cry so much and be so upset after loosing one. but i think its better to have loved them then not to have loved them at all. anyway, just wondering what is the Life Span of cats? thanks for reading this and if you have any ideal as I forgot to ask the vet ! i was more concerned for her well being at the time .

Update:

Also she is Spayed and has been for ever !

they can live anywhere between 10-20 years. the average is between 12-15. cats generally have better health and live longer when they are spayed/neutered.

Difficult to say. It all depends on the cat and lifestyle. Wild cats may only live for 3-5 years. Normal pet cats from 12-15 years but I know of cases where cats have lived well past 20 or more!

of course there is always a difference for not only the sex, breed, make and health but i would say on average about 14 years. from experience the cats ive had or know have always lived longer than dogs, one of my cats, acutally my parents which they got before i was even born i grew up with my whole live till i was 17! I also knew this people and there cat was 20! ive never been around or even heard of a good healthy cat dying at 7. or 8 or 9 the youngest i think ive heard is 11 also females tend to live longer

    1) "Creme Puff (August 3, 1967 – August 6, 2005), was a female cat who died at age 38 years and 3 days. She was the oldest cat ever recorded, according to the 2010 edition of Guinness World Records." ~Wikipedia

    2) Most cats live to 12-15 yrs old. My older sis's cat is now 19 1/2 (soon to be 20) yrs old.

    3) Your spouse shouldn't tell you 'no more pets'. It IS better to have loved than to never have loved at all. He should understand your need for another cat or dog. When your cat does die of old age, as sad as this is to think about, let some time go by. But then get another kitten. So many years of love is worth it!

    4) I know your spouse cares for you. I know he doesn't like to see you cry. But the happy times in between the tears are worth it. <3

    5) And lastly, I hope everything works out for you, your cat, & for your future pets. *hugs*

A well taken care of cat can easily live to be 15-20 years. The average is around sixteen however.

Sometimes cats only live to be 6 or 7... But sometimes they live to be up to 18 years old! I believe your cat has some kind of gaurdian angel if she is still alive this long. And if that gaurdian is your daughter, then I believe that she will keep that cat alive as lomg as she thinks you need it. Everyone takes it hard when their pets die. But we just gotta keep living on
