Sigh...When will people ever realize that "God" did not "create" marriage?

or anything for that matter.

This is inspired by all the dingy things people are saying about marriage being between a man and a woman like what is written in their holy books.

Last I heard marriage was supposed to be a legal contract between two consenting adults

Update:

@ Tom just to appease you I used a simple thing called the dictionary. Please read- if you are capable of understanding clear English that is.

Pay special attention to 1b.

Well, if God created marriage, then why the hell does government legislation get so damn involved in the institution? So much for separation of church and state.

*sigh*. I'm assuming this is a gay thing.

Marriage has it's origin in religion as far as I know, maybe not christianity but remember christianity is a hybrid of many religions that came before it. It's not a business arrangment with contracts. This is why services are generally conducted in churches, chapels or whatever, under the eyes of God. Civil marriage is different but ultimately in the eyes of the law amounts to the same thing. this is where gay marriages should be conducted. No mainstream religion condones gay sex never mind gay marriage. Some of them say the right things but they do not condone it and they never will, even the secretly gay ones.

I have no problems with gay people who want to marry but asking to do it in a church is stupid. You may as well be asking if you can sacrifice some goats and a couple of blonde virgins while you're at it. IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Gay people are not stupid, so I know that you know this but you gay guys keep on pushing. Given the clearly stated homophobic stance of all major religions I can't understand why any gay person would want to get married in a church in the first place. Why they keep banging on about it? Clearly anyone who thinks this is an injustice has no idea about how religious establishments work. They were here long before being gay was considered acceptable by society. They make their own rules according to ancient scripture and no gay person is going to come along and change that. All these establishments would sooner crumble to dust than allow this to happen so give it up.

EDIT Tom. You tube. Zeitgeist The Movie. It's about 2 hours long but broke into 3 parts. Watch part one. Do it right now. Christianity is an astrotheological hybrid of at least 3 religions that all came out of Egypt about 7000 years ago. If this destroys your image of the world around you I'm sorry but you need to open your eyes.

I see marriage as a religious belief that is between a man and a woman, of any race. However, if a gay or lesbian couple want a civil union, that will be legally seen as a marriage, then I'm all for that. That should also be extended to anyone, gay or straight, who wants to be "married" but does not want the religious aspect.

Were there any “legal formalities” when Adam and Eve began to live together?

Gen. 2:22-24: “Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man [Adam] into a woman and to bring her to the man. Then the man said: ‘This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one will be called Woman, because from man this one was taken.’ That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh.” (Notice that it was Jehovah God himself, the Universal Sovereign, who brought Adam and Eve together. This was not a matter of a man and a woman deciding to live together without concerning themselves about legal authority. Observe, too, the emphasis that God placed on the permanence of the union.)

Gen. 1:28: “God blessed them [Adam and Eve] and God said to them: ‘Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.’” (Here the blessing of the highest legal Authority was pronounced upon the union, they were authorized to have sex relations and were given an assignment that would fill their lives with meaning.)

If God did not create Adam and Eve to unite there probably would not be marriage. Jehovah God created unity of marriage in order that a couple of two of the opposite sex in love can enjoy each other. Eve was created as a complement and helper to her husband Adam.

" And Jehovah God went on to say: 'It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.' ”-Genesis 2:18

Marriage was legalized in the first century. It has to be legalize today. There are many men and women that marry are dishonest to their mate. There's polygamy. The list goes on. The couple must stick to their vows and pay them.

Marriage is just a legal agreement often accompanied by a very expensive ceremony. Waste of money and nothing 'holy' about it.

Of course now I can't marry any of you. I will have my fancy wedding :3

Many Christians seem to think they somehow "own" marriage. Which is odd, as without the legal document nobody will care just how much fun you had in your church ceremony, least of all the state.

Source(s): Also, if your church is a private club (which for all intents and purposes it is), you can turn away gays for all I care and not allow them to get married in your church. Hasten the demise of your bigoted institutions. Do not care one bit.

    you´re right!

It´s a legal contract between two consenting adults :)

The rest was invented so churches make more money.

Marriage existed long before Christianity. All cultures have marriage. It's insulting to insist that they invented marriage and marriages not related to their religion are illegitimate.

You must have heard wrong; it was obviously made by god in order to screw with the homosexuals.
