I think it's because her self esteem is at 0 and she has lost all confidence...but if there are children involved, usually a woman will leave for the children's sake in the end, if not for her own safety. It's important people also around a battered woman encourage her to leave or even report abuse to the authorities, as she may be at risk of serious harm, plus help her stay safe, away from the abuser.

It is a cycle. Usually a woman that is involved in an abusive relationship is there because of fear, or her skewed view of love... he will change, he has promised.... I've heard it all before. Its very sad and when we aren't in it, it so easy to say just get out! Unfortunately abuse no matter, sexual, physical, verbal or psychological really messes with your common sense and ability to be rational. She may be threatened that this will happen if she tries to leave, she may feel ashamed. This is common even though she has nothing to be guilty about, the oppression and constant belittling makes her feel worthless and that she deserves whatever her abuser does/says.

Its so complex. The best thing you can do is either call the police or help get her out. I've called the police before and hotlines, helped to get friends out. If they are able to get to a shelter that is a start. Sometimes they have no way and no money which makes it difficult. It depends on the situation. If its life-endangering or especially with children involved its time to step in. If you know of abuse report it!

Best of luck and blessings :)

its because the man makes the woman feel so needy that she has to stay with him. She feels that she has no other choice.

But this is called emotional bullying-the abusive partner does this until she has the power to leave him.

    My parents are examples.

They claim it's because it's too difficult to move on and change but I think that's bull****. My mother always said that was the reason she stayed with my dad.
