Black Eyed Peas Recipe?

I was wondering if anyone have a very good recipe for Black Eye peas. I want a recipe like my grandma use to make. They were sweet with ham in it served over rice and very good. And a recipe like my father use to make his wasn't sweet but he mixed them in greens and served over rice. I make mines in the crockpot and it don't taste like theirs and I won't eat them.

Turn the black-eyed pea combination into the ready loaf pan; bake for forty five minutes, or until the oats and cornmeal are cooked and have absorbed all the liquid. Flip loaf out of pan; cut into slices. Consume bloodless or fry in butter. Serves 6.

I'm not sure about the recipes you're looking for, but I'm cooking my version of Hoppin' John right now.

Saute some chopped green and red bell pepper, red onion, celery, and some diced smoked sausage with a couple bay leaves. Add a couple spoonfuls of chopped garlic, minced pickled jalapenos, and about 2 1/2 cups quick-soaed blackeye peas. Stir well, and add 4 cups chicken broth/stock. Simmer for 30-40 minutes, serve over white rice.
