Cooking pulled pork in a slow cooker?

So I have my pork shoulder and all the spices/liquids in the slow cooker right now but the recipe says that its 5-6 hours on high, or 10-12 hours on low..

Are their any disadvantages to cooking it a couple hours longer on low?

The recipe I have followed is at:

You can over cook food in a slow cooker. Worst case is that the texture of the meat is compromised and it is a mushy mess. I have cooked a turkey breast in slow cooker before and always have good results. My sister (who is no cook) decided to try it and left the breast in the slow cooker about 15 hours and it was almost inedible, very mushy, you couldn't slice it at all. I am wondering why you would want to cook it longer than 12 hours, unless you are not going to be home. I wouldn't risk it, follow the recipe.
