Can I make tamales with banana leaf?

I was getting ready to make tamales. Had everything ready the meat and mass however my husband brought home banana leaf instead. Can I just use thebanana leaf as a substitute and make it the usual way ? Will it still taste the same or will the leaf give it different flavor?

You can use the banana leaf.

The taste will be a bit different.

If you really don't want to use the banana leaf or use it on only some...wrap some in parchment paper that will work and impart no flavor.

Outside of Mexico, they use Banana or Plantain leaves, even Bamboo, Banana leaves do not taste like bananas, they do have an earthier flavour over corn husks, as chef I did steamed fish, chicken and duck in banana leaves both steamed and roasted in an oven or BBQ

Yes although they do have a stronger flavour that's why they're better saved for Puerco Pibil and Kahlua Pork
