  • What are great inventions?

In Your life, what have been great inventions/discoveries?

Me: electricity, plastic grocery bags for lining wastebaskets, Paper - from toilet to scratch-pads, aspirin for life's everyday aches, pains and headaches, ear-plugs because of noisy neighbors.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Are you familiar with the fable, "Stone Soup"?

It seems that various countries carry their own version - I'll make mine a little simpler.

A hungry traveler passing through a village received no compassion or aid from vendors or passers-by.

He came to a clearing with a creek and set up 'camp' for the night (easier to try to go to sleep than think about your growling stomach). All he carried was a large kettle, but he had matches and a small knife in his pocket.

The man scavenged for branches to start his little campfire, then got it going. He scooped water from the creek to fill his kettle, and placed it over the fire. In another pocket he removed a smooth stone, which he placed into the kettle.

Just then a man came along with his wares from the village market. He stopped and asked our traveler what he was doing, and was told he was making stone soup; it just needed some flavoring or other that he was not able to find out here.

The man offered a large potato from his bag, and sat down while our traveler pulled his knife from the pocket where he kept his matches, He diced the potato and added it to the kettle.

Just when they started a conversation a woman came through, wondering what the two men were doing... she offered an onion from her basket, which the traveler diced and added to the pot as well.

Before long, the traveler had also added carrots, lamb shanks and some herbs.

Lo and behold if a vendor from the village did not come along, with bowls and spoons among his wares (talk about a sight for sore eyes; I was beginning to wonder!)

They conversed and all went home with warm, full bellies, and our traveler went to sleep in his camp knowing that he had (leftover) breakfast in the morning.

It's that time of year again... time for giving, sharing and enjoying the company of others. All I have to offer is a large kettle, some matches, a knife and my trusty stone. As you pass through, please feel free to sit and chat awhile... and if you can spare a morsel from your wares, the soup will be better for it. What can you offer my kettle? Thank you.

  • Is my neighbor hacking my computer?

Hi, and thanks for your time and feedback...

Off the top of my head, I've had 'weird' goings-on with my computer. During the time period in question (1-2 months?), two new apartment families have moved into the building.

One weird thing is that Every time I start up my computer and get things going, the neighbor across the hall starting stomping around.

Another weird thing is that since maybe the day before yesterday, there's a cable strung across the 'community hallway' - from this new neighbor's to that new neighbor's. It's my understanding through the grapevine these neighbors are friends.

The third weird thing is that a number of times a day, Norton puts a message at the bottom corner of the screen; something about high usage from Internet Explorer.

I hope somebody can help put two-and-two together about this weirdness Thanks again.

  • What if you won the Lotto?

People have been asking one another this question for a long time... "What would you do if you won the Lotto?" Seems to me some things people would do would be the obvious - jump up and down and yell, "Oh My God!", call somebody and tell them (bad idea)... and maybe go change their pants.

I'd like to pose the question this way, "If you won the Lotto, what would your plans be in utilizing it?"

Since I can't go out in the world, I think I'd like to hire a chef to come in and prepare my meals (yum!).

Maybe I'll go place a notepad and pen by the bed - always thinking about cooking anyway.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing your answers.

  • What if you had your 'druthers'?

If you had your 'druthers', which of the following would you prefer not to suffer with?

    Headache

    Toothache

    Backache

    Paper cut

I'm suffering with all of the above right now... trying to decide which one I druther go without first!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • What do you think about the republicans not wanting to raise the debt ceiling?

We (especially us Senior Citizens) will lose our Social Security and Medicare. Wait a minute - what about the people living in the streets who've lost everything; some might live in their cars, but the rest of them are a lot colder. Why don't people care? What if the shoe was on the other foot? I know I would appreciate a heart and a helping hand.

Thanks for your feedback on this issue.

  • Why does a guy check when he wakes up?

For the guys out there only... why do "you" put your hand down your pants before you even get out of bed? (Not trying to be funny here, I'm serious and want to understand.)

It seems to me that if Lorena Bobbitt attacked you, you would know.

I'm pretty sure that us women don't think or check - how is it going to go, especially without our knowledge?

Again, I'm serious here, and appreciate your feedback; thank you.

  • What would you like to learn?

If you could learn (and master) kitchen techniques, what would they be?

For me... cracking an egg with one hand, the skillet-flip (omelettes, pancakes, etc.) and make poached eggs.

  • Is anybody trying the newest version of Yahoo! Mail?

  • Are you watching "The Next Food Network Star"?

Hi: I'd like to know what you're thinking out there. Penny has been wiping her feet on the others since the show started.

I don't care if Vic has tattoos (don't judge a book by it's cover)... I would watch his show because of his personality, and he has proven himself.

I say the Food Network staff should be watching Penny - how dare it be suggested that she has a strong personality, blah, blah, blah. I don't like the way she treats people; get her out.

Cousin Vinnie made a good point... Nadia G ("Bitchin Kitchen"). Enough said.

  • What does eggplant taste like?

For some reason, I have no interest in tasting eggplant, but I'm curious to what flavor and texture it has when cooked.

My guy likes it but can't seem to explain it to me.

    Would appreciate your input.

    Thanks.

  • Does anybody not like bacon?

You know, the chefs on television always claim that "We eat with our eyes first". I disagree... the smell of bacon will get me out of bed, so I say that we eat with our nose first.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thank you.

  • Is Memorial Day a holiday in your opinion?

Cousin Vinnie and I have decided that Memorial Day is not a 'holiday'... it is a day of remembrance and respect.

Unfortunately, the state of Washington has not acknowledged the Veterans who have passed away; the news reported that none of the state buildings carried their flags at half-mast.

We would appreciate your comments on this.

    Thank you very much.

  • Who would you like to meet?

Which television chef(s) would you like to meet - and why? (They may have their own program, or maybe they've simply been featured through some other show.)

Me: Chuck Hughes ("Chuck's Day Off")... he cooks for persons or groups that have helped him or that he appreciates. I like his Canadian accent, too.

Robert Irvine ("Dinner Impossible", "Worst Cooks in America", "Restaurant Impossible")... not only has he been sought after by The White House, but anybody who knows how to plan for an umpteen amount of people has got to be interesting to talk with and learn from. Maybe he could prepare a dinner for Me!

  • What tv chef(s) bug you, and why?

Bobby Flay always says, "Take some of this", "Add some of that". How Much?

Paula Deen sticks her finger in the food and into her mouth, but doesn't wash her hands. She double-dips too... and she owns & runs a restaurant. She says, "Y'all too much".

Pat Neely's laugh, and he says, "Y'all too much".

Nadia G - wasting tv time; not interested.

Emeril Lagasse doesn't tell the amounts of the ingredients he's using. By the time his hour is up, I've forgotten how many times he has said, "Now" like he's yelling it.

Giada DeLaurentis grins too much, and has a condescending tone.

  • Have you ever thought about this?

For those of you who are old enough to remember - back in the day, waitresses had to wear hair-nets (don't know about the 'male' chefs). Why don't they nowadays? The chefs on tv don't wear them either. I wonder who decided there was no sanitary issue anymore, and why?

  • How do I save a page to another location?

Hi, and thanks for any help you can offer me...

I've started a website - in my travels through recipe websites, I now and then would like to share recipes with others.

I have a printer, but (due to circumstances beyond my control) am not able to use it. So far, I've been writing my interesting finds... you should see the growing stack of paper around here.

How do I copy a page from a website (using Internet Explorer) to My website? I know about "Save As", but I'm not sure about using that into my site. (I'm so confused.)

While I'm thinking of it, in the past I've accidentally copied something to 'Clipboard'. What is it, where is it and how do I use it?

How do you people know what you're doing?!

    Thanks Very much.
